Getting really worried now!!

Dd has had hives like rash all over body since this morning. It didn't go with piriton and I cant put it down to anything at all. She does not normally suffer from allergies etc. It didn't bother her so I left it. Tonight she woke up screaming and is unable to walk, complaining of pain in both feet and cant stand on them. I have local surgerys but she is scared stiff of docs and is screaming so loudly. On my own and 7 months pregnant with a toddler in bed so cant physically drag her.

NHS still have not called back.

Should I call an ambulance

I would call the doctor to do a housecall

scorpio1 · 03/02/2008 22:50

call a doctor at the local hospital or ring your docs surgery, they should have an answer phone msg telling you who/where to ring.

dilbertina · 03/02/2008 22:56

horseshoe....do you think she is really really ill? you know your child.... If yes - call ambulance...if not sure but desperately worried...call ambulance.

If none of above, take a few deep breaths, chant she's fine, and wait for doc to call back. and really don't mean to be patronising but can seem worse when you're stuck in no-mans land!

SlartyBartFast · 03/02/2008 22:57

how is the rash now?

horseshoe · 03/02/2008 23:09

They just called back and told me to watch out for discoluration in the ankles.

This is so unlike her. She tried to stand but fell over. She so scared off docs that she refuses to tell me anything now. Just crying. I tried to get her to walk with the temptation of chocolate but she just fell.

oh dear,
i hope she gets better soon.
what else are you sposed to do?

Ledodgy · 03/02/2008 23:11

If she can't walk i'd ring an ambulance now.

Scramble · 03/02/2008 23:11

HOw old is DD?

Scramble · 03/02/2008 23:11

Is she screaming with the pain or because she doens't want to see a doctor?

Scramble · 03/02/2008 23:12

Does she have this rash around her face? Is her breathing affected at all?

dilbertina · 03/02/2008 23:19

is she awake or asleep now?

horseshoe · 03/02/2008 23:20

She is 5.

Rash round her whole body....looks more like sunburn now.

The rash isn't bothering her at all and she was fine until pain in her feet.

Crying cause of both...screaming in pain if I make her walk but fine sitting down...only crying when I mention Docs so trying to play it down a bit.

I have given her some pain killers and cold wipes to ease the pain. They are swollen and she has bumps on the front in both place like on the bone.

i would call docs, i think,

bundle · 03/02/2008 23:25

i really think she should see someone soon

Heathcliffscathy · 03/02/2008 23:25

does the rash stay visible if you view it through a glass pressed against it? if so call ambulance sounds like menigitis.

Scramble · 03/02/2008 23:26

I think this is where you have to trust your mums insticnts, if she is only crys when having to put weight on feet it could just be that they feel so tender with skin moving when she does. If a lot of it is the though of the doctors I wouldn't be as concerned if she is OK anough to worry about doctors that aren't even in the room (not like a loomiing nurse with a needle) then perhaps it is not so bad.

But you will know better than any of us or an advisor on the phone, you have to go by how she usually is and how much she is scred of doctors.

Heathcliffscathy · 03/02/2008 23:29

oh god i'm sorry, i don't want to panic you, but i'd be panicked if my child was screaming with a rash and pain...

there should be an out of hours doctor that you can get to call....and get on nhs direct's arse, this is exactly the kind of call that they should be prioritising with no waiting at all

Ledodgy · 03/02/2008 23:30

Does she have a temperature?

No temp and glass test done and fine.

DH just arrived home (i called him to come home from work) and shes tucked up in his arms.

Shes hating me at the moment for poking and prodding her so gonna leave her and get DH to try.

Two lumps are swelling up on her feet but no turning blue as yet.

Dh got car so going down to the local all night surgery if things dont improve withing an hour.

Don't wait, take her NOW, i havent the first idea what is going on, but it sounds like she needs urgent attention. Its probably something and nothing, but i think you should get her seen.

BigBadMouse · 03/02/2008 23:38

I agree with scramble, you'll know what it is best to do.

Why does your DD dislike the docs so much? My two love the docs now but were put off after an ear infection when they were younger. I guess a trip to the docs could be seen as therapy if he doesn't do whatever she finds scary (mine didn;t like having their ears looked into so I asked the doc not to do that unless completely necessary)

I'm sure NHS direct asked you all the relevant menengitis questions striaght away. Sounds like an allergic reaction to me. It's hard to cope when you have one ill and you're on your own and pregnant (been there), just remember there are lots of us on here and the docs is an option if you need it. Are you able to get to a surgery relatively easily (i.e do you have a car?)

Hope she is better soon. I'd choose to get it checked out to see if it is a reaction - then I could try to track down the culprit in case she had a worse reaction next time but then this isn't me in the situation and my kids love to see the doctors. Trust your insticts. Good luck

Scramble · 03/02/2008 23:39

TBH I would have had her at A&E, my MIL (ex childrens nurse) would have dragged us in she doesn't mess about.

Rash, swelling and crying with no known cause I would want to know more.
