Cancer Support Thread 85 - Hoping for a positive 2023

1000 replies

AGreatUsername · 24/12/2022 19:10

Starting a new thread as the old one is almost full.

Welcome one and all, this is a thread for those with cancer and those who are awaiting tests for cancer. We offer support, a place to rant/vent/cry and ask questions without judgement. As always maybe we can do a quick who’s who at the start of this thread for newbies.

Heres hoping for a positive 2023 for us all.

I’m so, so sorry to hear your news @thereisonlyoneofme and I truly hope you get the local support you need. Fingers crossed it will be someone near by who re homes your dog and will be able to visit. Thinking of you.

Podgedodge · 23/01/2023 20:07

@thereisonlyoneofme
I am so so sorry about your news.
Sending you all the best wishes I possibly can.

KentishMama · 23/01/2023 20:40

@thereisonlyoneofme I'm so sorry that you've had such bad news. I wish there was anything useful to say, but in the absence of wise words, let me send your a huge hug and so much love.

Fantasea · 23/01/2023 21:07

@thereisonlyoneofme I'm so very sorry to read your update. I will be keeping you and your dog in my thoughts. Sending you much love Xxx

thesandwich · 23/01/2023 21:45

@TopOfTheCliff hope all goes as well as possible tomorrow.

Silkierabbit · 23/01/2023 22:18

So sorry thereisonlyoneofme sending love.

Saw breast surgeon today to discuss reconstruction but I still cannot go on wait list. Apparently its 7 days in hospital and wait list is now down to 40 weeks if I ever make it that far. Had to get taxis as car broken.

Mycatispretty · 24/01/2023 09:10

Sending love @thereisonlyoneofme and big hugs

Toughie · 24/01/2023 09:28

@thereisonlyoneofme so sad to hear your news, it is utterly shit. Please keep posting here (if that’s what you want) as I’m sure everyone on this thread will want to support you as much as they can.

dotty2 · 24/01/2023 09:39

@thereisonlyoneofme . I'm so sorry to see your update and you are in my thoughts. I know hospices are not all wonderful, but my DM had very good support at her local hospice and found the team there a genuine comfort. They helped make it easier when none of us could offer anything that helped her emotionally, so I hope that will be your experience too. Please feel able to keep posting if that's what you want, however grim it all is.

@LuvSmallDogs - this is a tough time for you, but many of us here have been through it or are currently going through it (I have node positive breast cancer myself) so will be happy to chat if it helps. And don't meet trouble half way - just take it a day at a time and try to deal with what you know, not what you fear.

Novemberhater · 24/01/2023 12:45

@thereisonlyoneofme So sad to read your update. I can't think of suitable words that don't sound cliched, but you are very much in my thought.

WorryMcGee · 24/01/2023 13:37

@thereisonlyoneofme I am so, so sorry. I have contacts that might be able to help with your lovely dog, but in East Surrey/Sussex which may be too far? If at any point you would like me to ask, let me know.

incognitodorrito · 24/01/2023 17:56

Im so sorry @thereisonlyoneofme

Makemineadecafplease · 24/01/2023 21:50

@thereisonlyoneofme I am so so sorry to hear your news. Sending you hugs.

TopOfTheCliff · 24/01/2023 21:55

I’m home! After a long day of people doing uncomfortable things to me I have escaped minus a chunk of boob, three lymph nodes, a power port and two skin tags ( my cheeky request!) The highly skilled Senior Registrar did my operation.
The high spot was the delightful student nurse on her second day in the unit who kept me company. I talked her through the cannula removal, her first!
The low spot was arriving at the pre op assessment unit after wire insertion and nuclear injection and being told I should be at Day Surgery instead but not allowed to go there without someone to carry my bags ( because wire in Boob). Barking at patients who are being extra brave doesn’t help!
House still freezing 12 degrees so central heating going on for 24 hours for the next few days. I am worth it! DH needs to stop being frugal for now. We CAN afford it! But he just cooked me a delicious meal so he is forgiven.

@thereisonlyoneofme sending loving positive waves. I hope you have been put in touch with kind people to help xxx Life is constantly changing without our permission but there will be some advantages to being looked after.

Top x

Worried11111 · 25/01/2023 05:39

I had my surgery yesterday, I'm still radioactive at the moment, have a blue breast from the dye and blue wee My lump is out and my lymphs checked.
Everyone at the hospital was so lovely, really caring, I'm going to take some cake in for the ladies in the breast unit next time I go - their favourite is lemon drizzle.

@thereisonlyoneofme am sending love to you.
Which area of the country are you?

dotty2 · 25/01/2023 07:40

Two surgeries in one day! Sending all good wishes for speedy recoveries to you both. And I am with you on the central heating post-surgery - you definitely deserve that if you can afford it.

AGreatUsername · 25/01/2023 08:18

@thereisonlyoneofme I am so very sad to read your update. Sending you and you doggie love xx

@thereisonlyoneofme I am so sad to read of your situation. I hope that you find a new home for your dog as soon as possible as that must be so stressful on top of everything else. Much love to you both x

WorryMcGee · 25/01/2023 09:17

Speedy recoveries @Worried11111 and @TopOfTheCliff ❤️

Any recommendations for soothing Paclitaxel rash? Both my hands and arms are covered and it’s creeping across my collarbones and up my neck now. Unbearably itchy and sore and the piriton they gave me isn’t doing anything. In better news it seems to have replaced the joint pain as that’s all but gone and I managed a 5k run which has boosted my mood.

incognitodorrito · 25/01/2023 09:50

Wishing you both a good recovery @TopOfTheCliff and @Worried11111 - my skin looked the best it’s ever done whilst I was radioactive @Worried11111 id just had major surgery but with a holiday glow, hope your having that too atleast. Starting Paxclitaxel tomorrow, hope you find a remedy for the horrible itching ❤️

Worried11111 · 25/01/2023 10:22

Thank you @incognitodorrito @WorryMcGee
Currently in bed reading the book that I started in hospital yesterday. Not had a chance to read for ages!

TopOfTheCliff · 25/01/2023 11:10

Thanks @WorryMcGee I’m doing okay just battered and chilly. Heating on full now. We have massive credit with the energy company so I’m going to blow it!

Re the rash, you can double or treble up cetirizine if needed. Maybe check with the chemo team though. Hope it settles soon. X

EachandEveryone · 25/01/2023 13:49

I’m just waiting for my bloods and dressing to be changed. I woke up sneezing bloody snot is this normal on Paxclitaxel? Also neck pain. Good news is that I took a Zopiclone and slept like a baby. And I’m still starving I’m sure I’ve jumped up a size.

TopOfTheCliff · 25/01/2023 14:07

@EachandEveryone yes a sore nose is common, as is bone and joint pain.

@Worried11111 what are you reading? I read Lessons in Chemistry this week and am now on Love Marriage by Monica Ali. First one was hilarious but this one is a bit darker. I could do with some laughs!

dotty2 · 25/01/2023 14:31

A friend recommended Lessons in Chemistry to me and I was listening to the audio book when I couldn't sleep, but had to stop at the rape scene (apologies for the spoiler). Does it get less grim?
