Burn - pharmacy or minor injuries? Warning photo

I’ve put the coin for scale.
it’s not massive but the blister is quite big and quite deep.
My mother is campaigning for me to go to the GP tomorrow or minor injuries but beyond sticking a covering on it what would they do?

That looks nasty and open to infection. Go to mi and they may refer you to a burns clinic.

2pinkginsplease · 20/10/2022 15:46

I’d definitely go to minor injuries. It looks a nasty one.

headstone · 20/10/2022 15:46

My son recently had a second degree burn, that looks similar. They burst the blister and removed the dead skin and dressed it for two weeks. It’s much better now and they don’t think it would scar. I would let them check it out.

Eunoia · 20/10/2022 15:46

Minor Injuries definitely.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/10/2022 15:46

Any kind of open wound needs seen and that looks nasty. Get to MI or A&E.

IncessantNameChanger · 20/10/2022 15:46

I have been to minor injuries for Lees. My burn eventually turned black and rock hard so I'm glad I did get it dressed

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/10/2022 15:46

Burns are notorious for infections. Don't arse around.

Clevererthanyou · 20/10/2022 15:47

Ahh shit, get thee to a health professional OP, that looks painful.

AriettyHomily · 20/10/2022 15:47

You need to get that seen.

Is it a scald or a burn?

dudsville · 20/10/2022 15:48

You poor thing, that looks incredibly painful. I hope you get it treated.

MissyB1 · 20/10/2022 15:50

Yeah sorry that needs seeing. Any chance you have a minor injuries unit near you?

NeverHadANickname · 20/10/2022 15:54

I had similar a few years ago and the pharmacist said to see a doctor.

Hoppitpoppit85 · 20/10/2022 15:55

Rats.
i was hoping to just ignore it and let it get better on its own. My mother thinks I should go today but I don’t really want to hang around for hours at MI.
It’s not that big but it is quite a deep blister.
I will give MI a ring and see how long the wait is.

Definitely minor injuries, it needs debriding with flaminal forte and dressing regularly.

I dealt with DH’s chemical burns at home but I had what I needed to hand.

Berlioz23 · 20/10/2022 15:56

I’m a pharmacist, go to minor injuries there’s nothing a pharmacy can do for you apart from give you a dressing but that’s a pretty big blister so needs seeing to.

Do you have the Waitless app? It gives the average waiting times at local
-ish MI and UTC so, assuming you have transport, you can go to the one with the lowest current waiting time. The risk of infection to that might bump you up the queue anyway tbh. Best of luck!

Hoppitpoppit85 · 20/10/2022 16:16

Thanks - I will check the app!
my arm feels sort of stiff? When I move it at the elbow.

Any burn over the size of a postage stamp needscseeing to.

Ds was told this at A and E about 10 years ago.

EarringsandLipstick · 20/10/2022 16:28

God Almighty. I can't believe you had to ask.

That looks awful.

A&E & good luck!

Cornettoninja · 20/10/2022 16:33

That’s a nasty one.

I know it’s the last thing you want to do, but you really need to prioritise getting it tended to properly.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 20/10/2022 16:33

Oh wow that's a nasty burn, definately get that seen

Cornettoninja · 20/10/2022 16:33

If your mum sent you a photo of that what would you tell her to do?

Hoppitpoppit85 · 20/10/2022 16:37

I’m not sure - she’s here with me and nagging me about it 🤣.
i don’t want to go if unnecessary because I don’t want to waste their time.
i will check the app and see how long the wait is.

Depends on the severity. Sunburn (first degree) no. Third degree absolutely!

Ganymedemoon · 20/10/2022 16:49

I work in A&E. you won't be wasting time with this, trust me. Go and get it assessed and treated.
