Anybody else got one of these forms from the school .. you have to consent / or not consent to your child getting vaccinated at school now

what do you think

(It only seems to be for London BTW)

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? This is outrageous How DARE THEY? We should all start complaining to Health Authorities and anyone else who'll listen. Lurking as at work but couldn't not post on this. Keep him off Twiglett.

MistressMary · 30/11/2004 12:21

Talk about intimidating parents!
When we were at school and had rubella jab at 14.
I'm sure our parents has a consent form one way or another to sign.
It just goes to show what we have to face from the officials in the future regarding our child.
I think I would keep any child away from school too.

luckymum · 30/11/2004 13:22

I'm appalled Twiglett - both at the comments about sepvax and the idea that primary school children should be vaccinated without their parents present.

I personally don't have enough faith to trust that he wouldn't be given it by accident. Keep him off!

Angeliz · 30/11/2004 13:25

I still can't get over this!
Unbeleivable that they're telling people whose children have had seperate jabs, (even boosters by this point), to have more!!!! UNBELEIVABLE!!

Jimjams · 30/11/2004 14:12

We've already decided that our children will be kept off school any day there are vaccinations. Don't trust someone not to decide to just dish them out....

OMG Agree with the tone of this thread. And I most certainly would not trust them not to accidentally give this jab. Just curious, what if you don't return the form? Are they looking for consent to give the jab or consent to not give the jab?

I would write down on a separate sheet of paper everything that my child has had, and return that with the form, and write "See attached letter of today's date" the return it registered mail to the school. That way, the school can never say they weren't informed of your wishes. I think that when they have to sign for a registered piec of mail, they will give it special attention. You could also ask them to give you a minimum of 7 days written notice of when this day will be.

Oh, and I love the t-shirt idea. Maybe you could start an anti jabs at school campaign and get other kids to wear it. I'm jokin, really. But it would certainly get your point across.

One of my friends took her son in for his pre-school booser DTP and was 'accidentally' given the MMR as well - he had been sepvaxed previously. I know of two other people who had the same thing happen to them - I have to say I'd be keeping mine off school too. Grrr

Hulababy · 30/11/2004 20:36

I would fid out when it is and make sure you don't send them in that day.

Also, don't just refuse to sign. Send it in unsigen and with a letter from yourself stating very clearly your wishes, and say that in no uncertain terms that your child is not to be immunised. If enecessary take it in in person and speak to the Head of Year or Headteacher as well. make sure that they know you will no let it lie if they do immunise against your wished - poor admin is not an excuse IMO.

There is a tick box for No consent .. just no space to tick previously sepvaxed

I wrote in capitals along the top that NO CONSENT TO MMR WAS GIVEN as well as ticking the relevant box

I asked teacher to tell me when it was as he wouldn't be going in that day

Poor teacher looked really harried .. I don't think I was the first parent to be asking that question ... she had no idea on when it was

(then had a barney with one of the fathers who told me 'he'd read the research and it was all discredited)

Spoke to my welfare lady today at work and she confirmed that each child is triple checked with the relevant paper work next to them before any jab is done. Also they are asked to confirm their name verbally. This is a junior school. Also parents have been invited in to sit with their child while they are jabbed and for a long as needed afterwards.

jaberwocky, why do you have to wait a year for singles? We got measles immediately and then leave a gap (6 mos +) before the next one... etc

God, another reason I am relieved ds is out of the state sector. He was sepvaxed at 18-30 months and dd will be done that way too.
I'd say write on their upper arms and thighs with laundry marker, "We'll sue the hide off you if you touch our child".
When will the DoH realise that all this blanket scare-mongering "separate jabs less effective than MMR" is not having the desired effect.
Ds was an early client of DH2000 in SE London and I asked then about a booster. They told me it would not be needed. Surely they would be offering them if there was a clinical need...after all, it would be more money for them.

twiglett · 30/11/2004 21:41

Marina .. do you mean DS is only having one set of sepvax???

I understand that they still need a pre-school booster of sepvax (unless you are going to get an antibody test first) .. in fact DH2000 sent me a letter to that effect

sorry if I'm misreading your post

I'm still gobsmacked at this, I really am. Marina, good idea about laundry marker. I wonder who made this decision at the Dept of Health. Did they think they could just DO it and no-one would notice? How arrogant!

Marina · 01/12/2004 09:32

OMG Twiglett, they never recalled us and we haven't moved or anything. I definitely had a conversation with Sarah Dean when ds was first done and it was she who said that round one of their sepvax programme was so unlikely not to take that they were not offering boosters. Ds is five though, and was one of the first to be done - they have changed their procedures in lots of other ways since then, I see. I will double-check with them when dd goes for her first shot. Gosh, thanks for the alert!

Angeliz · 01/12/2004 09:34

Marina, we got dd done with seperate vaccines and her rubella took first time but not measles, (and we're still waiting for mumps). We may get her the booster after Christmas+
