Cupofteaonesugar · 01/10/2022 22:53

After advise for what cream I should use for a scald in my face.
I was filling my hot water bottle up and the water erupted and went in my face!!
I've kept a cool towel on it for a good hour and now I've got sudacrem on it but I don't know what cream I should use moving forward to help ot heal!
Please bare in mind it's Saturday night and everywhere is shut so I can't get anything now!
Would normal moisturiser suffice?
A blister appeared immediately and came away. No further blisters yet 😳

Don't put anything on it except cold water, you need to make sure the heat is out of it and then leave it to heal.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 01/10/2022 23:11

NHS advice - www.nhs.uk/conditions/burns-and-scalds/

PorkPieAndAPickledOnion · 01/10/2022 23:12

Nothing at all, especially now the skin has broken. I’d go back to cold water to be honest. Never use creams on burns - you can effectively ‘cook’ the skin. That’s still very angry looking so I’d keep cooling it for as long as you can.

boydoggies · 01/10/2022 23:13

Make sure the heat is out. Vaseline is recommended for faces. Though I do love a bit of germolene and it'll provide some pain relief.

Cupofteaonesugar · 01/10/2022 23:13

Th m you!
I went in the nhs website but I can't work out how I keep my head under running water and then put cling film on it 😳
I only have sight in that eye too which makes life more difficult!
I'm reading lots of different things online!

Call 111 if you have any concerns. The NHS advice is a little contradictory in your specific case but it does say burns to faces should go to A&E.

nocoolnamesleft · 02/10/2022 02:46

Easiest way to run cool water on your face is in the shower, with the temperature turned down.

Cupofteaonesugar · 02/10/2022 06:55

So the cream really helped keep it cool last night so I kept it on and didn't lie in that side. Woke up this morning and gently cleaned my face and this is what we have.......
Shit.

Call 111 for out of hours appointment. My daughter had a bad scald on her foot and our local surgery saw her every other day to redress it. (And provided us with lots of spares) It was borderline whether she should have been at the burns unit but they were amazing and there is now no scar.

Littlemissprosecco · 02/10/2022 07:00

Oh that’s looks sore, you need to make sure it doesn’t get infected. You would probably benefit from going to minor injuries. They’ll dress it for you.

CakeMakesMeHappy · 02/10/2022 07:00

To clarify they use special dressings. Not standard plasters!

OhRiRi · 02/10/2022 07:01

Don't bother with 111, pop yourself down to minor injuries this morning when they open

forgotoldusername · 02/10/2022 07:01

My exh had a bad scald on his hand a few years ago. GP actually sent him to A&E who gave him something and he had to go back a few times. I know going to A&E Is anathema on mumsnet but that can get infected (or leave a scar). At the very least call 111 please

DottyLittleRainbow · 02/10/2022 07:03

Get to minor injuries with any burn to the face. Hope you’re ok, OP.

maltesersarethedevil · 02/10/2022 07:03

Any burns/scalds on the face needs medical attention. Don't put anymore cream on, youve probably made it worse. Go to minor injuries

urrrgh46 · 02/10/2022 07:04

I think that needs looking at at urgent care or A&E. my Mum did similar (with a kettle) many years ago and went straight to A&E - they had her splashing cold water for a few hours and then send her home with an oily moisturiser but the skin never broke like yours. That needs dressing imo.

LemonDrop22 · 02/10/2022 07:21

Get to A&E or minor injuries (out local gp has a treatment room that deals with things like this but only weekdays obviously) asap

They have a gel dressing for scalds that is amazing for pain and preventing scarring etc

Can't remember the name of it but not available in pharmacies and extremely expensive online.

OTC Pharmacy stuff is not on the same level.at a.

Cupofteaonesugar · 02/10/2022 07:34

Thanks all I rang 111 and they suggested a and e so I am just feeding my toddler and then I am going to go! Ahhh what a nightmare!

Oooh! That looks sore. I hope you've been seen by A&E and given something to help. Hot water bottles can be so dangerous.

Jellonet? I had a bad burn on my back and the nurse have me dressings. The Jellonet was fab!

willingtolearn · 02/10/2022 15:14

Usually use silicone dressing on burns.

Burn gel can be very useful to keep in your first aid kit for pain relief after water cooling or if like in this situation it is not possible to directly apply water. It's also good for using whilst transporting to hospital.

Hope you get seen quickly OP - you might need some OTC pain killers for the next few days, particularly at night.

Cupofteaonesugar · 02/10/2022 17:45

Aww thank you all!
Is this a 2nd degree burn with the blister?
They have put some dressing on and a massive plaster which has made it feel so much better! The air to it before was making me feel ill. It also had yellow fluid coming out, surely it's not infected already?
but I have to go to a different hospital specialist burn unit in the morning!
I'm feeling really down about it today, I had a really lovely day planned after a stressful few weeks. But I suppose it could be a hell of a lot worse!
I wonder how long I'll have to keep a dressing on for? I darent leave the house 🙈
Getting a dominos tonight to cheer myself up!

Cupofteaonesugar · 02/10/2022 17:51

Also should I be concerned about this on my plaster? It's obviously oozing inside 😳

Scald on face, help!
OP posts:
Littlemissprosecco · 02/10/2022 18:31

If you’re seeing someone tomorrow don’t worry about the oozing, it’s probable plasma, your body trying to heal. It is a little too soon to be infected unless you’re really unlucky. You’ll need to keep it covered until the risk of infection passes, ie… until it’s dry and forming a scab. When the scab eventually comes off.. do not help it!! It will look really pink, that will fade eventually, but at that point do rub Vaseline into it a good few times a day, might sound silly, but the massage and moisture really help healing.
Enjoy your pizza you really to deserve it!
you have my sympathy, but do what they say, be patient and it will heal ok. X

JerryGarcia · 02/10/2022 20:09

Ahhh hope you're doing OK.

I had a really nasty burn from boiling water about 15 years ago. I sat in a cold shower for about 30 mins and then I put honey on it and wrapped it in cling film until the paramedics arrived who said that was exactly the right thing to do.

Changing the dressing was incredibly difficult as the scab would come off too. One night I decided to leave the dressing off so slathered it in savlon and finally woke up with a good thick scab on it. I then used vitamin e cream a few times every day for a few weeks and amazingly I don't have any scarring at all. Think you can get it at a chemist.

Good luck with the healing, just be patient with it as it might take longer than you'd like to get better.
