After advise for what cream I should use for a scald in my face.
I was filling my hot water bottle up and the water erupted and went in my face!!
I've kept a cool towel on it for a good hour and now I've got sudacrem on it but I don't know what cream I should use moving forward to help ot heal!
Please bare in mind it's Saturday night and everywhere is shut so I can't get anything now!
Would normal moisturiser suffice?
A blister appeared immediately and came away. No further blisters yet 😳

How did you get on today - hope all ok?

userxx · 03/10/2022 20:52

Tilt your hot water bottle next time, I've burnt my hands so many times when it bubbles back up. Hope you're feeling better today.

Cupofteaonesugar · 04/10/2022 12:41

Aww thanks for checking in!
I felt very down yesterday. The thought of not being able to wash my hair and cancel last weekends plans and then cancel my hair cut this week (which I've not had cut for like a year) and the lack of end date of this big plaster and wound really got to me. The plaster is huge it's on my hair and full
Forehead!
I love washing my hair and putting my make up on and feeling good, so yesterday I felt the absolute opposite.
Today feels abit better but still feeling down. I just don't feel like myself. I think the shock of having burning water on my face and around my good eye has just made me feel very anxious!
Pain wise there is an improvement. I've noticed though that when air hits me in a certain direction it's very painful even with the plaster.
He hospital said I have to keep the plaster on until at least next week when I go back. They said it will heal with is the good news but it could take a while as there's an especially deep part around my hair line when they took the plaster off yesterday I was shocked to see how much worse it look from the day before!
I have some plasters to change at home, I might change tomorrow and have a peek! She said I can carefully wash my hair tomorrow but I might try and hold out until Friday! I have very thick hair which normally gets washed every other day!
I know I sound very superficial, obviously the main thing is that I will be ok in time!

So understandable you feel down about the situation- rest up & try & listen to your body/let yourself rest to speed up healing.

Understandable being down, but thank goodness you missed your eye.

Cupofteaonesugar · 05/10/2022 11:17

So I needed to change the plaster and had a quick peek.
Crazy to see how it has escalated.
Around the hair still looks quite red and vulnerable so I'm going to hold off washing my hair today.
I'm hoping this is on the road to recovery now 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yowch! I'm so glad it hasn't damaged your eye. It doesn't even bear thinking about.

Littlemissprosecco · 05/10/2022 11:25

Tbh it looks better than I thought it would, you’re on the way to recovery, just be patient.
it’s not red, sticky or weeping, great news, keep doing what they tell you.

CornishTiger · 05/10/2022 11:29

Ouch. When the skin starts healing look at Kelocote. UV version. Check with hospital first though

Cupofteaonesugar · 05/10/2022 11:36

Thank you o definitely need to ask about creams moving forward don't it.
There's a bit more under the hair line but I can't photograph it!
Im pleased that hopefully im on the other side of it now 😳
I woke up this morning and I was scratching my plaster in my sleep 😳

Ouch!

When you fill a hot water bottle do you lay it flat with just the opening held up at an angle? Thay what stops the water splattering up everywhere.

Look into silicone patches to aid healing.

Jellonet? I had a bad burn on my back and the nurse have me dressings. The Jellonet was fab!

I have heard of jelonet ("misused" as a breast feeding compress) but it isn't jelonet. I tried googling and can't identify it.

I can't be sure what I did but I do think this is what happened!

I've just had a call from the burns unit they want to see me tomorrow now 😳

Hopefully they will see the progress and I'll be discharged.

I did exactly the same thing with a hot water bottle, a few years ago.
It healed very well and didn’t scar.
You have my commiserations.

It's healing, you can tell by the skin colour. You have a lovely eyebrow!

Cupofteaonesugar · 05/10/2022 20:48

@userxx ahh thank you! I had them semi permanently tattooed about 3 years ago!

So I washed my hair tonight thinking that if I'm getting it checked tomorrow it'd be better to wash tonight just incase I disturb it. Anyway it was fine and didn't seem irritated. Massive plaster back on now, but I finally have happy hair 🙈😂

Oh really! I'm seriously considering getting mine done, I've got a good shape but they are thinning and so light in colour.

Glad the hair washing went without a problem, having clean hair has probably made you feel loads better.

didiimaginethis · 05/10/2022 21:23

Hi OP I'm so glad you've been referred to the burns unit as that looks very sore for you.
My son suffered a very severe burn years ago and while in hospital we met lots of children who had sustained a burn to their face/head (unfortunately very common as children become more mobile and reach up, pulling down mugs, kettles etc). Once the burn had gone through the initial healing period creams were applied liberally and so many of the children who were burnt on their face now have hardly any scarring - the recovery was amazing!
So there is great scope for recovery with lots and lots of moisturisation (vaseline was the cream of choice back then!) for a facial burn. Make sure you stay very well hydrated, take recommended painkillers and rest as much as you're able to.

Thank you! I definitely need to ask about moisturising because I have extremely dry skin especially on my face and I can already feel the effects of not being able to do my normal skin routine. When the plaster was off today my head felt so tight! I wonder when I can apply cream 🤷🏼‍♀️

I really loved my eyebrows so I would definitely recommend!
They have lasted so well but definitely need freshening up now! As soon as I'm not breastfeeding anymore they will be the first thing I tick off my list!
