Hi I am looking for advice to try and calm me down I can’t stop crying and thinking I won’t be around for my dc

for as long as I can remember I have had rectal bleeding on and off always bright red sometimes I go months then it happens again but goes away. Life is busy and by the time iv got round to worrying it’s stopped. This current episode has been happening since Tuesday and I’m in bits.

sometimes before a poo my stomach feels tight - thoight that was normal thoigh and goes away when I poo

im obese

I eat crap

the poo is fresh and not in the poo but when I look it’s always in one part of the toilet pan I think it’s either on the first or last but if that makes sense ? Pink when I wipe but bright red on toilet

t
since reading about it I think there might be a pressure - I think this started when I had a harder poo I recall it feeling sharp

my pops have mostly been solid until tiday when I took a Cambridge shake then 2 hours later was on the toilet with diorhea - recall this happened before on Cambridge

im so worried it’s cancer anyone else has this? Iv been an idiot in terms of not looking after my health

Obviously you're disappointed that the appt has been pushed back to 4pm.

You may have a chronic problem, if it's been happening for years but I'm not a doctor and it does need to be checked. You are taking control of your health by getting it checked.

Hempy · 03/10/2022 09:17

I understand the stress - it's really hard to think of anything else when you are worried.

Explain how worried you are to your GP and that you are finding it hard to cope - it's entirely understandable.

My husband had rectal bleeding and it was anal fissures.

Hempy · 03/10/2022 09:21

Take it easy, lovely. Go outside to get some fresh air and then make yourself a big cup of tea. You are taking care of yourself by getting this checked and you are also working more generally on your health for the long-term.

Boujisboo · 03/10/2022 16:50

Thank you all I’m here now. Dreading it but least I’m doing something about it. I’m so annoyed with myself as this has been happening a while. But we are where we are

Did you get to talk to the GP? 🌷

Justwingingit2005 · 03/10/2022 17:27

I've had rectal bleeding.
Was referred for colonoscopy which isn't as bad as you think. One small polyp was found and removed. Normally bright red means pile or fissure but not in every case, and bleeding from the bottom does defo warrant a Dr's appt.

Hempy · 03/10/2022 17:30

Ach Boujisboo I thought you were having a phone consult at 4pm. Sorry it's a face to face appointment of course! I hadn't clocked it. Well done on going. Hope you're seen quickly.

You're doing the right thing getting it checked.👍

Boujisboo · 03/10/2022 22:23

Well I feel a bit better he is sure it’s hemmoroids truggered by constipation from what iv said but I have a fit test and blood tests. All my prev blood work doesn’t indicate anything else
thank you all for your support will keep you updared

OP posts:
Hempy · 03/10/2022 22:51

That sounds good Boujisboo. I've had a fit test done and it's easy to do. It checks poo for hidden blood.

My husband got his fissures from constipation and 'holding on' because he was too busy to nip to the loo.

Well done to you for going to get checked out. You should be justifiably proud of yourself.

StarJumpAlertTakeCover · 03/10/2022 23:12

Also had fresh rectal bleeding. No other symptoms. Assumed it was haemorrhoids as have had three large babies.
when bleeding began to happen between bowel movements I thought I ought to get checked.
within a month I had major surgery, a low rectal tumour was the cause. It was wa a huge shock.
Everything removed, I have a colostomy now, also had all the chemo and radiotherapy they could throw at me.
But I’m still here. And they now think, 2 years after initial diagnosis, that it’s possible i could be cured.
For gods sake don’t delay. Get checked.
Chances are you will be fine. I was unlucky.

I’m hopeful I’ll be ok he said the fact iv had it on / off a long time is a good thing (first incident when I was 17) and siggestive of heamorroids but we will see.
scatee to do the fit test as surely it will be positive

I've asked for my post to be deleted because there are specific instructions on how to take the sample.

DH has a fit test next month as part of regular screening so we'll be reading them again then.

Boujisboo · 04/10/2022 12:21

Thanks I’m less constipated today and manager a movement without bleeding so that has assured me but will do the test and I think I’ll do one annually to put my mind at rest too, I think everyone should have these screenings annually

OP posts:
Hempy · 04/10/2022 14:55

In Scotland it's from age 50 onwards that you have the Fit screening. I'm not joking you, I had my 50th birthday and the next day the test landed on my hall carpet! 😁 (I may have been slightly hungover)

Well done on going to your GP.

nannybeach · 04/10/2022 16:39

I get a test every 2 years,I think it starts at 60. Family history of bowel cancer, uncle,DM, GA, got IBS after being very badly bullied at work, then diverticulitis just for good measure, which gets most of us with age.

lborgia · 04/10/2022 17:07

@Boujisboo - just one more point. If you had been getting these symptoms from cancer for years and years, things would've got worse and worse. If you have cancer, you don't just have the same symptoms over and over, new ones pop up, pain gets worse, weight loss.

So, whilst you're obviously feeling much better about it all, if the doubts creep back in, remember that!

Boujisboo · 04/10/2022 19:31

That’s what the doctor said
I’m so up and down tiday bleeding stoped which it normally does after. Week but then just been and there’s blood when I wipe again
today I felt like it looked darker but can’t be sure
it’s def not in stool it’s on it

I am so scared to do this fit test

OP posts:
Boujisboo · 04/10/2022 19:33

And then I also think what if iv thought it’s bright red but it’s not? I’m driving myself insane just want it to go away

I cannot stress how important it is to do the FIT test. Please please please do it.

i know you are scared, I had a CT colonoscopy this morning, I know that fear all too well. But not doing the fit test isn’t going to make it go away. The only way to put your mind at ease is to do it. Because if you don’t, whatever is there will only get worse. It could just be piles, or a fissure or a niggly polyp that at the moment is fine but could get worse . Having the fit test means you know what you are dealing with and you can go from there

sending you hugs, I’m sick with fear at the moment

I’m sorry to hear this hun. Sending you all the positive vibes in the world. What are your symptoms?

im going to do it for when I go in Friday no matter what. Did they find blood on your fit test? Thing is I know it will be positive and I just can’t cope with the thought of what will happen

Take the bull by the horns and go to the GP. I know you are nervous, I was obese, ate crap, didn't look after myself etc then I was forced to go to the GP. I had to have some very invasive tests in hospital and had some fantastic support from people on mumsnet. I also found the GP and all the people who dealt with me at the hospital were lovely. I openly told everyone I met that I knew I'd not been looking after myself properly etc and no one judged me, just gave helpful advice. Good luck!

Boujisboo · 05/10/2022 17:55

I’m having bloods tomorrow and the rectal exam on Friday
I’m now terrified it’s Amal cancer
I can’t understand why it’s happening so much
with solid pops I bleed but iv had diorhea today and no bleeding but really sore so sick of it

OP posts:
ObviouslyNotAMandy · 05/10/2022 18:51

Sorry to be graphic but have to had a gentle feel around the outside of that ‘area’!? If it feels like there is a small grape type bump, probably haemorrhoids. You can get them inside and out so don’t panic if you can’t feel anything. Definitely go see doctor to get it checked, but if it is, they will probably just prescribe anusol pessaries and ointment. Apparently a common for women who have carried babies.

It’s also really likely to be piles or a tear, and having the rectal exam could confirm that.

think of it as a process of elimination. It’s a process. If you are sore, then yes it could be a fissure. I’ve been bleeding, but I’m not sore if that makes sense? But then I haven’t got piles or a fissure - hence having other investigations.
