I lost smell and taste after covid and this is my 8th week. I'll get a burst of smell of something but will disappear or i'll smell something up close and will only get a hint and then gone, not stable everyday.
I've read so many sad stories that has caused anxiety and not able to sleep anymore.
Please can anyone tell me only positive stories of regaining smell and taste, thanks.
Let's get through this togetherxx

His advice is very “out there” but it’s a very healthy cleansing diet with celery juice, it worked for me but it’s quite intense so maybe try other recommendations first, but I was desperate! He has books etc if you look him up online

My son lost his sense of smell and taste after covid, it returned after about seven months.

Allmarbleslost · 05/09/2022 21:18

My sister suffered with parosmia for over a year. What fixed it was getting covid again!

@Staystrong7 he was pretty upset about it and kind of assumed it would never come back. I tried giving him strong things to smell, like essential oils, coffee etc but not sure whether this helped or not. He found he could taste really strongly spicy and sweet foods towards the end, so wanted Chinese takeaway a lot! I couldn't get any help from the GP, rang them a few times. I read that vitamin A helps, so he had loads of carrots peppers etc. but no idea if it helped or not. Fingers crossed for you.

@ScabbyHorse -thanks, i hope so too🤞i understand what your son went through. I'm truly happy he got through it all 😊 he also got the lovely support from you, gave him the strength to carry on.
I totally understand the stress that GPs are under but my local GP was so abrupt when I told her that I'd developed anxiety and insomania from covid symptons.
She was bothered, just said, it is the long covid, deal with it.

@Staystrong7 and all others on this thread, I know it’s a few months old and honestly I’m beginning to feel like a smell and taste troll as I’ve already started another thread on aibu, but I’m also obsessed and in need of reassurance.

I’m day 9 covid anosmia and beginning to lose the will. I get slightly whiffs of things if my nose is right up to them, but it’s vague, transient and unreliable. I was hoping it might have really started to return by now, but any progress is extremely slow and patchy.

How are you all getting on now? (Hoping for good news)

SuperheroBirds · 13/01/2023 12:00

Honestly, you are doing better than I was at day 9, so I’m sure your’s will be back soon. 13 months on and I’ve had quite a dramatic improvement, I’d say my sense of smell is now 75% back. Just this week, I finally treated myself to some new perfume as I can actually smell it now

Staystrong7 · 15/01/2023 17:07

You are doing well @WilsonMilson, Please don't give up, your smell and taste will return but it can take time.
For me, smell and taste gradually came after 5 months. It's not 100% but definately better. I've gotten back into baking again and enjoy my food rather than eating for the sake of it.
Smell training helped me (clove/orange/eucalyptus oil, smell for 20 secs every day).
