I used to bite my babies nails. Just a gentle nibble, you understand.

you need those baby nail scissor as they lessen the feeling taht you are about chop their fingers off. and do it when they are asleep

bundle · 22/01/2008 12:29

bite them
or straight edged scissors (with rounded ends) put baby in your lap with their back to you

Karen999 · 22/01/2008 12:30

I just file my dd's nails...she seems to like it. I do it after her bath when her nails are quite soft.

dilbertina · 22/01/2008 12:30

I get my husband to do it - I leave the room .

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 22/01/2008 12:35

File gently with an emery board

mejon · 22/01/2008 15:02

With nail clippers (adult sized ones I found were best, baby ones just too fiddly and not sharp enough to take the nail off cleanly first time) and definitely when she is asleep. Same with toenails!

RosaLuxOnTheBrightSideOfLife · 22/01/2008 15:30

I have never cut any of my three children's nails in my 10 years of motherhood.
It is DH's job!

systemsaddict · 22/01/2008 15:36

I was too scared for months to cut them, and filed them every day (ds has eczema and needed really short nails), then discovered the joy of clippers - somehow much easier than scissors and cut closer too.

Sushipaws · 22/01/2008 15:53

I use a soft file, my dd is too wriggly to use clippers.

bubblejumping · 22/01/2008 15:55

i did both my boys whilst they were asleep at first - no wiggling. I also used straight baby scissors, didn't feel comfortable with clippers.

  • M & P did a good nail pack with baby file scissors and clippers.
geordiemacminx · 22/01/2008 16:00

I was bought a glass nail file from Ruby and Millie for xmas - its a bit of a leathal weapon as far as a couple of strokes and your nail is gone, but its excellent for filing ds's nails. I have tried with baby scissors but I always end up with jaggy edges

an emery board is easier than clippers

geordiemacminx · 22/01/2008 16:06

with a wiggly baby filing is far easier and safer. Filing means you dont get jaggy corners either..

LadyThingFishAlot · 22/01/2008 16:09

i bite them

Momma3 · 22/01/2008 16:56

i always use nail clippers and do it when ds is asleep. he doesnt wriggle then.

StealthPolarBear · 22/01/2008 16:58

if you're me you get dh to do it after an unfortunate finger cutting incident
He cuts while I sing and dance to distract DS!

jenkel · 22/01/2008 17:17

I was told by the health visitor to bite my babies nails, at least then there is no way you can nip their fingers with scissors.

MrsBadger · 22/01/2008 17:33

I hypnotise dd (5mo) with tv
then do with scissors on swiss army knife (sharp, not pointy, and easier to control than clippers)

but I can only do one hand before she gets wriggly so alternate

JingleyJen · 22/01/2008 17:36

baby clippers worked for us I sit DS2 on my knee facing away from me and look over his shoulder and cut his nails holding one finger at a time
