I once chopped the end of DD1s thumb off with those damn clippers , never again. Now i use baby scissors with blobby ends. PFB alert: With DD1 i waited till she'd been asleep for 10 or 15 minutes and i knew nothing would wake her, then i crept in , laid a sock over her eyes, put the big light on and cut her nails
With DD2 [SubsequentNeglectedChild] i hold her on my lap with her back to me and hold her very tightly, she screams but i usually have time to get the job done bfore all hell breaks loose...

I can't bite them either - clippers are definitely easier than scissors - we use some little mothercare baby nail clippers. I find its easiest while DS is having milk - nothing will distract him from that, you could do anything to him!

bumbly, surely you can get some left-handed baby scissors from somewhere?

spicemonster · 24/01/2008 16:17

Clippers. Have been doing my DS's nails like that since he was born and he now lies very still when I do it (he is 10m)

Could not use scissors - can barely use them on my nails

whooops - sorry. Tried it again and realised just in time that my email was at the top of the search page - duh.
Google 'left handed products baby scissors UK' assuming you're in the UK, i always put that to filter out the US sites.

I second the glass nail file. Gets rid of the nail really quickly without doing any damage to the skin, unlike emery boards. They never wear out, and you can sterilize them if anyone has any nasty nail infections.

It's become my essential present for any Mum-to-be. Betterware sell them, but mine came from a Spanish market.

glass nail file - thanks will check it out
