Steve has been sick a lot the last couple of days and nights, he doesn't have a temperature so don't think he has an infection. poor steve he is worn out with it all. its been so hard for him this weekend to keep his anti sickness tablets down. fingers crossed he hasn't been sick since 4 o'clock we are hoping he will have a sick free night.

Do you know that you can get ondansetron melts that he could take and absorb even if he is vomiting?

The hospice put dh on to them.

Poor steve, and poor you....how are you doing?

ondansetron melts sound a good idea, thou you know what a nightmare is was to get the bog standard ondansetron.
i will speak to the mac nurse tomorrow.
thing is he has his anti sickness and steroids and then is sick within ten minutes so i don't know what he has kept and what has come back up IYKWIM.
i put his steroids up cos he has been suffering so much with balance, sickness and headaches.

Where would he be without you oj? You're a marvel. Makes me feel sad to think of his distress. Thank goodness you cope so well. I know you'll say it's because you have to but I bet a lot of people wouldn't.

Thomcat · 20/01/2008 19:09

crossing my fingers with you Oj. i hope tonight is peaceful for you all.

Peachy · 20/01/2008 21:47

Do try and get the melts- nothing compared to Steve of course, but I had to have anti emetics that were absorbed orally when I ahd the hyperemesis, and a few days of them made a big difference to restoring my overall fluid / mineral balance enough to allow me to take the 'proper' meds.

Sometimes being sick often enough is enough to make you mroe sick, iyswim.

have got the anti sickness in liquid form and some halperidol to calm steve down when needed as he is getting very confused & anxious which is getting harder to manage at home. the Mac nurse was ok about me upping the steroids too.

bigcar · 21/01/2008 14:20

I hope they work oj. Thinking of you.

onlyjoking9329 · 21/01/2008 18:20

steve hasn't had any sickness today but has been confused anxious and restless.
he is convinced that i have swopped the kids bedrooms over and couldn't undersatnd why DS was in bed in what steve thought was DD1 bedroom. i am hoping he will sleep tonight as i am having to keep a very close eye on him.

OP posts:
Blandmum · 21/01/2008 18:23

Could it be the pain meds/haldol adding to his confusion do you think?

Dh had periods of real confusion in the nights a little while ago. We have reduced his pain med, and it is much better.

onlyjoking9329 · 21/01/2008 18:31

he hasn't had any halperidol yet but they wrote him up for it today in case he is too difficult to manage
Mac nurse things progression of tumour is the likely reason thou i am not ruling out the chemo as he was in hospital 4 weeks ago and he was exactly the same then, hospitals solution was to up the steds which is what i have done. i hope there is some improvement in a day or two,
MB do you know anything about Halperidol?
i have googled it but just saying it is used in mental health.

OP posts:
Blandmum · 21/01/2008 18:33

It is a Major Tranquilizer.

Not had any 'dealings' with it.

It will knock him out to sleep. I know that sounds awful, but you might need it if he is very agitated. And that way you will all get some rest.

If Minor Tranquilizers don't do it, this class of drugs will

Blandmum · 21/01/2008 18:36

here is some information

onlyjoking9329 · 21/01/2008 18:59

it sounds heavy stuff i wonder why they have gone the major route first off? i am hoping never to have to use them.
i will speak to our Mac nurse when she is in tomorrow i spoke to a different nurse today.
i am hoping he will be less confused very soon, it is his birthday on friday.
how is your DH MB?

OP posts:
onlyjoking9329 · 21/01/2008 19:00

thanks for the info it is very helpful.

OP posts:
Blandmum · 21/01/2008 19:01

Not bad. He had chemo last week, so wasn't in work. went into work today.

Don't know why they haven't tried the minor ones, possibly because they would't knock him out, and he might be even more disoriented? I would ask the Mac nurse for more info

onlyjoking9329 · 21/01/2008 19:07

its great to hear that he can go into work
will speak to Mac nurse tomorrow
