Hi fellow Mumsnetters
So it's been boiling the past few days and I have developed a rash in my stomach fold - I'm not as thin as I was pre kids but not huge I'm a 14-16 - what should I do with this???

I've tried sudocrem, baby powder nothing is working and it's stinging a bit and it's got worse this evening - I only ever wear cotton underwear I'm trying to keep it as clear as I can

Any advice gratefully received

That may have turned fungal (speaking from experience 😭). Daktarin cream.

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 12/08/2022 23:52

That could be thrush- try some canesten.

If it is thrush, talc and antiseptic cream will make it worse…

RNBrie · 12/08/2022 23:53

Looks fungal to me, do you have any canestan in the house??

Toosadtocomprehend · 12/08/2022 23:56

That may have turned fungal (speaking from experience 😭). Daktarin cream.

ouch …definitely need daktacort ….am thinking you can get over counter.

TheVillageShop · 12/08/2022 23:57

Thrush. Get some Canestan cream. I'm having the same problem in this heat.

Afterfire · 13/08/2022 00:00

Another vote for thrush.

Furrybutts · 13/08/2022 00:00

Wash it, carefully dry it and air it for as long as possible while holding the skin up so the air can get to it.
I agree with Caneston if that doesn't work.
I'm fat and have a big overhang from 3 c/ sections and used to suffer with exactly what is in your pic.
Now I air myself after every shower, and put a clean folded tissue in the fold every day. Not had it for 5+ years now.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 13/08/2022 00:03

Agreed that you need canestan, you also need to try to keep skin from touching skin there for a few days.

So wash, dry well, cream and then some kind of cotton/fabric barrier over the top so that it doesn't rub and chafe against the skin.

I have an overhang and am finding that something like chub rub/anti chafe shorts that are snug enough to hold everything still and stop it rubbing helps.

StaunchMomma · 13/08/2022 00:39

Looks like a fungal infection. Really common in skin folds.

Lots of showers will thorough drying and Canesten cream will sort that.

Felicity42 · 13/08/2022 00:51

You can get Daktarin talc which might be good for that area as it will dry it out too.

PinkPupZ · 13/08/2022 00:54

Canesten and hydrocortisone should clear it

Bangarang · 13/08/2022 00:54

Ouch. I've had it repeatedly and I use canesten. I also keep clean with a plain soap with water, pat try, bit of cream, and something clean and cotton to buffer the overhang (or boob) from the stomach (or underboob). It'll be sore for a few days but will bounce back (no jiggly tum puns intended).

Newsernames · 13/08/2022 00:55

As others have said clotrimazole cream but I have also found washing the area with an anti fungal body wash helps. I use Dr Bronners tea tree liquid soap, then use clotrimazole cream. When it’s cleared up I use talc.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 13/08/2022 02:28

Definitely fungal. Wear cotton underwear. Whenever you bathe, dry completely and use a blow dryer to get the folds completely dry. Separate the folds at night with a cotton handkerchief, or even a clean cotton sock.Use an antifungal cream.

allboysherebutme · 13/08/2022 02:39

I use sudocreme for a few days. X

Nat6999 · 13/08/2022 04:24

Wash & dry, may be a good idea to hold a flannel in the crease to dry & then Canestan 2% cream. Once it has cleared up use Mitchum cream deodorant to stop it getting sweaty, if you start to feel it may be starting again, use sudocrem. I suffer occasionally with this rash Along the crease where my C section scar is.

Oneearringlost · 13/08/2022 06:10

Op, as others have said, it could be fungal, a combination of Canesten and Hydrocortisone cream. But, more importantly!! Get a hairdryer, set to low and after gently cleaning the area with non- perfumed soap, apply the hairdryer to dry area, every 2 hours. Place a cotton muslin type cloth to fold, repeat, repeat, repeat..
Good luck.

Blush21 · 13/08/2022 06:14

Wash and thoroughly dry it, air it out of you can, perhaps avoid but knickers back on for a few hours. Medicated talc or some thrush medicated cream and if possible a clean flannel out over the area, kind of folded between the skin that overhangs, should stoop further rubbing and help absorb the weeping. I do this for my boobs sometimes

Thinkingblonde · 13/08/2022 06:24

After vote for fungal. I had it under my boobs, where the skin on my chest and boobs meet. Doctor prescribed canestan cream,, at the time it was prescription only. Don’t use a steroid cream if the skin is broken. It cleared up and I’ve never had it since.
Hair dryer and Muslim cloth, good idea,

AnnaMagnani · 13/08/2022 06:29

It's not heat rash, it's a fungal infection called intertrigo.

You need to clean it at least twice a day, keep it as dry as possible, if you can have it exposed to the air even better.

Plus clotrimazole cream after each time you clean it. If the pharmacy has the cream which also has steroid in called Canesten HC even better, but often they don't.

Standard clotrimazole cream will be cheaper than a brand like Daktarin or Canesten.

EveSix · 13/08/2022 06:51

Airing will help. For as long as you can and then a bit more! A gentle saline wash may also be beneficial.
I've a bit of loose skin around my belly button following weight loss and I have to make sure my belly button is bone dry after a shower and never gets sweaty. I often pop a little piece of scrunched up loo roll in there to make sure it stays 'open'.

Gaveitall · 13/08/2022 06:59

Clear it up going by what others have suggested here (in case it’s a fungal) and then after showering make sure area is thoroughly dry (use hair dryer) and use a solid stick antiperspirant in the fold. Even if you have to buy mens. (Lynx or Dove?)

Worked for my elderly aunt under her breasts. Never comes back because the sweat doesn’t occur with the antiperspirant. Has to be antiperspirant, not deodorant. There’s a difference.

CamillaToe · 13/08/2022 07:06

I would take a canestan tablet as well as using cream

You can get them over the counter from the pharmacy
