What is this rash? Pic

For the love of god I turned 30 last week and my body is broken. Incase any of this is relevant I'll put down each ailment if someone has a magic pill I can take to fix it all.

Beginning with December, dodgy long heavy periods, pain during sex, gynae said I had a bulky uterus, stomach hard and uncomfortable, very bad smell from inside vagina mainly during periods and after but still a smell every day that is 'off'. Sti tests negative had ultrasound scan last week, still waiting to find out what is what with that.

Last week, small rash started on bum thought I'd scratched it somehow, gradually the rash has spread to both bum cheeks and my thighs. Feels like little raised pin pricks at first but then they get bigger and join up. Sore and itchy at the same time, none have popped or had anything come out. Never had a rash like it.

Few days after the rash I notice I have very strong smelling urine did a urine dip that I had at home it was positive for nitrites and protein but not leukocytes. Gp questionnaire to get AB's was rejected because my only symptoms is the smell and the amount of urine is quite a lot more than usual but no pain or burning etc. HELP. I'm taking in urine samples tomorrow (how small are the tubes now!?) but just so curious about this rash too if anyones had anything similar

Bless you! Awful though it's been, at least you are on the right path to tracking down the problem now!

gertrudemortimer · 30/08/2022 17:42

Hi all one of the biopsies is back the dermatologist had to chase them today they had the wrong DOB which is why I never got them back! I'll try and remember everything, sorry it's basically just an information dump!

Unfortunately they came up with nothing just inflammation but unknown cause they specifically checked for an infection caused by sand flies and dermatitis herpetiformis. He asked if my other rash was still there so he could biopsy that but that's all healing now.

He wants me to go back and ask the gp to refer me to haematology and ask for a peripheral blood screen film or something incase it's lymphoma or leukaemia also to get my lymph glands biopsied that are up, he said cancer wouldn't typically cause joint pain and that's usually found in IBD so that's some relief. Then he rang me again and went through my entire timeline of events and said he's contacted the infectious diseases dept at my local trust for some guidance incase it's something he's missing.

My stomach and joint problems are still here but it is all so random I can have a day with normalish bowels but going to the toilet 2-3 times a day or I can have awful diarrhoea out of nowhere. I feel weak and tired.

The derm is going to continue looking in to it but he said he doesn't think it's a skin problem anymore and he's glad I've got a good gp who is doing the right things. He's been fantastic it's such a shame they didn't get any answers I'm dreading going to a different department that might be slower and less helpful

Sorry I haven’t read the whole thread but with joint pain and stomach pain have they ruled out Henock Shonlein Purpura?

BobbyBleu · 30/08/2022 21:02

You poor thing. Feel so sorry for you. At least you are getting some answers and the GP is acting on it all.

picklemewalnuts · 30/08/2022 21:49

Oh dear, Gertrude! So not much further forward then.

MumofCrohnie · 30/08/2022 22:09

I think it might be Sweet Syndrome...associated with IBD and Crohn's.... especially with family history.

MumofCrohnie · 30/08/2022 22:15

Another sweet syndrome pic

gertrudemortimer · 30/08/2022 23:01

Oh my god I've got conjunctivitis in both eyes @MumofCrohnie it just started two days ago. I haven't had it since I was teen. Thank you so much for putting the links I don't think I'd have bothered googling otherwise as I never seem to match it up. I'll ring the dermatologist and gp tomorrow and ask them both about it. I haven't even read the rest of it I'll do that now

OP posts:
gertrudemortimer · 30/08/2022 23:07

@MumofCrohnie both of those photos seem so similar to mine and the fact the rashes can appear where I've had them! And headaches fatigue muscle and joint problems conjunctivitis! Just everything. It mentions a skin biopsy I wonder if they can do further tests on the ones they have if there's a certain thing they need to do to diagnose it as that or check for something.

MumofCrohnie · 30/08/2022 23:13

I am not medical so don't rely on me....but having IBD in the family I do a lot of reading!

gertrudemortimer · 30/08/2022 23:22

@MumofCrohnie no of course not I will talk to the dermatologist, possibly he'll say 'nope it would have shown in the biopsy' at least it's one more thing ruled out if anything else.

I'm sure someone else has mentioned it before on this thread I must have just quickly scanned Google images because some of them look nothing like mine.

Poor you Op. You're are having such a terrible time. I hope things move quickly for you.

gertrudemortimer · 31/08/2022 10:20

@MistyRock thank you. It's certainly been a crap time!

I had a bad phone call with a different gp today who was trying to be argumentative with me about the dermatologist so I'm going to speak to him and see if he can refer me within that trust instead. I don't really care at this point where I go as long as someone is trying to help me figure it out.

I've rang gastro and they've told me to ring back at the end of next week once the doctor has reviewed it then I'll be on a waiting list to be seen in clinic if they agree to see me.

I have been following since the beginning and posted very early on that I'd had a similar rash, hives that turned much of my body purple and that fexofenadine plus chlorphenamine antihistamines worked.

However, your condition kept worsening and I thought my comments irrelevant. Until the mention of Sweets Syndrome and IBD. I now wonder if this is what I had as I have Ulcerative Colitis.

As I said, the antihistamines appeared to work, but what I didn't mention is that I was also on a fair dose of prednisolone steroids (and mesalamine) for the UC which had been flaring badly for months since having a baby. Steroids, seem to be the main treatment for Sweets, so perhaps it was this that worked.

It's been over 10 years and fingers crossed, the rash hasn't returned.

I hope you get some answers soon and thank you for keeping us updated.

gertrudemortimer · 31/08/2022 11:21

@hedgehoglurker your comments were not irrelevant at all hedgehog. I've been grateful for every post, especially those from people who have had similar rashes or symptoms.

That is interesting that you have IBD and experience of similar rashes. I'll keep you updated on the sweets syndrome rabbit hole maybe it's something that might benefit you in the future if you're unfortunate enough to get another flare up even if it isn't what mine turns out to be.

I've been tempted to remove the post/photos due to how identifying it is but it's nice to think it will help others that might come across it experiencing unknown rashes

MistyRock · 31/08/2022 15:35

Also don't forget that IBD can effect the eyes. It can make your tears not so good and can imflame them.

AshGirl · 01/09/2022 07:12

I've been following your posts OP and just wanted to wish you all the best, and hope you get some effective treatment options soon Flowers

Cupofteaonesugar · 04/09/2022 22:20

@gertrudemortimer I hope you're doing well lovely and a new week brings some answers for you!

gertrudemortimer · 05/09/2022 10:55

@Cupofteaonesugar thank you! I'm okay actually, I haven't had diarrhoea or sickness since last week a few uncomfortable moments but nothing like it was. Hopefully it stays like this. Could it just be a freak thing!? I don't have my calprotectin results back yet I'll update when I do.

My period started 1.5 weeks early however and I'm still on it now, 8 days of very dark brown bleeding with no signs of stopping yet. How can there be so much old blood? I have to use a tampon/sanitary pad like it's a normal period. It's confusing but I think it's something I'm going to have to live with

OP posts:
Cupofteaonesugar · 05/09/2022 11:56

@gertrudemortimer your periods can definitely be effected by stress etc though can't they and if you're run down so hopefully that's just a follow on from that! Still worth mentioning to your go though?
I was stressed recently and my period was very strange. I had bleeding between my cycle for about 10 days and a short but abrupt period about 2 weeks late!
Where are you now with things? Are you waiting for results still or referrals?
Glad to hear you're feeling better! I still hope you get an answer but I hope this is you on the other side now :)

MistyRock · 13/09/2022 17:24

How are you doing @gertrudemortimer?

gertrudemortimer · 13/09/2022 22:48

@MistyRock thanks for checking up! I got the calprotectin results back they were normal 25ug/l I think it was.

I'm waiting for gastro to be in touch which can be anytime from now until the 4th nov.

I've had a lot more good days than bad in the past few weeks however I had a bad do a few nights ago where I think I was close to fainting, never had that before so if anyone else can shed any light that would be appreciated! It started with a feeling of pressure around my torso/upper half, my hearing went and there was a loud humming like I was stood next to a generator, my vision wasn't normal I couldn't use my phone I could barely walk and I was drenched in sweat it was extremely sudden once I sat down I recovered quickly it probably lasted 3 minutes in total and I had a headache above my eyebrow for a few hours after.

I got some tiny blood spots on my legs about 40 of them dotted around which started a few days ago and still rashes coming and going on my chest and back. Also the skin on my fingers peeling away very finely. I do have more energy and feel a bit more alive!

I can possibly help with the fainting bit. I had three lots of penicillin in a row for a stubborn chest infection, and developed a non-anaphylactic allergy to it towards the end. It was in the form of big hives all over my body, some raise by almost half an inch. Eventually I had a spell like you describe and did actually lose consciousness and fall over. The paramedic told me it was caused by my body pumping fluid into the hives on my skin and therefore my blood pressure suddenly lowering, causing me to faint. If your rash is still extensive then the faintness might have the same cause.

I’m so sorry this is taking so long to sort out. Sending healing waves!
