Diarrhoea every morning

Anyone else get this? It's basically a lot first thing then nothing for rest of the day. Apparently no blood in my stool. It's been going on for about two months. Why does this keep happening??

Me!! I have put it down to stress. Diarhoea every morning within 10 minutes of eating breakfast or having a cup of tea BUT.....only seems to happen on a work morning hardly ever at weekends and barely at all in the school holidays (I work term time only) no blood in my stools (I check) and only happens once a day then if I go again that day it's 'normal'

JanglyBeads · 25/07/2022 07:45

Apparently no blood .... do you mean you can't see any or that it's been medically tested?

I'd consult a GP who can check this.

abadgutfeeling · 25/07/2022 08:29

Thanks yes it's been medically tested. No parasites either.

It's before breakfast and happens every day. Not water but very loose with urgency to go

Have you had any blood tests done? Do you have any other symptoms? Bloating etc? I’d probably be asking for bloods next just to check all your levels.

Silverbirch2 · 25/07/2022 08:39

Me! Wheat intolerance. Start looking at and keeping food diary. Think what you eat in evenings night before.

abadgutfeeling · 25/07/2022 13:50

Ok thanks I'll keep a food diary. Yes I've had some bloods and nothing remarkable so doc is bored of me now

IBS for me. Once I worked out my triggers it went away like magic!

It might be worth exploring FODMAPs and talking to a GP about food intolerances. I did the FODMAP elimination diet (which is hard work but worth it!) and found out my IBS triggers that way.

GreenFrog3 · 25/07/2022 23:05

I had this and it was a large bowel polyp which I had removed. However it did show up on a stool sample that something wasn't quite right (high calprotectin or something, also a sign of IBD) . So if you've had a stool sample analysed and nothing was flagged I'd probably say IBS.

EV117 · 25/07/2022 23:06

Anxiety? Stress? Could just be minor stress to affect your bowels.

GreenFrog3 · 25/07/2022 23:08

@2anddone I'd recommend getting a stool sample to the GP just in case. Blood in stool is rarely visible to the naked eye so it is still worth checking out. I blamed my digestive issues on stress for the longest time when I actually had a polyp. Very simple to remove and life changing!

JasperJohnsPaintbrush · 25/07/2022 23:09

Do you take vitamin C or magnesium? These can irritate the digestive system and cause the mad loo dassh on a morning.

TheFrustratedRedhead · 25/07/2022 23:12

Me! Within a few minutes after eating breakfast or having a brew. Every day. Diet seems to have absolutely no effect, it happens regardless.

2anddone · 26/07/2022 07:00

Thank you for the advice @GreenFrog3 I have a dr appointment next week about something else but will mention it while I am there Flowers

abadgutfeeling · 27/07/2022 08:01

I'll ask my GP again. I've been trying the FODMAP for a few days but no difference as yet

user295849 · 27/07/2022 08:12

Could it be tea?

user295849 · 27/07/2022 08:12

Sorry ignore that

TimeToGoUpAGear · 27/07/2022 08:19

Me, for 2 years! Went gluten free. Took 4 weeks but then fixed. Not saying your cause is the same but it is worth a try maybe.

lovelyjubblyjubilee · 27/07/2022 08:31

Do you drink a lot of diet coke or similar by any chance?

abadgutfeeling · 27/07/2022 08:54

@TimeToGoUpAGear that's interesting it took so long to have an effect. I'll persevere.

@lovelyjubblyjubilee no I never drink them! I have one single cup of tea in the mornings but the diarrhoea comes before that. I only drink water the rest of the day.

Is that cereal for breakfast with cow's milk and cow's milk in the tea? If so I would say it's the dairy.

Givemeallthegin8 · 27/07/2022 09:30

Me! This was happening to me for about three months . Going three times before getting kids out to school and work. Was starting to worry me .
Just back from holidays and didn’t happen even once ! Back a few days and it started again yesterday. Not sure if it’s the stress of my crazy children or my diet ?
I use sweeteners for coffee but would only have one per day sometimes two ?
I stopped taking vit c as thought it was that but doesn’t seem to be

TimeToGoUpAGear · 27/07/2022 09:31

@TheTeenageYears no I don't eat cereal. It's definitely gluten or possibly one of wheat, bran, oats, etc. I've not managed to figure it out further than that! I drink a lot of coffee/tea with milk still and eat cheese, etc.

blankee · 27/07/2022 18:55

FODMAP elimination takes a while, OP, so worth sticking with it. It’d definitely be good to get advice from a GP though

abadgutfeeling · 27/07/2022 19:38

Can I ask those of you who've done FODMAP or cut out milk, or cut out gluten but are NOT coeliac, how strict were you? Virtually every fucking thing says it might have traces of gluten in it, or dishes with a tiny amount of cream or cheese in, or the tiniest amount of onion or garlic in things... I am comparing to my coeliac friends who literally cannot have even a smidge of gluten but do I need to be this militant?

OP posts:
blankee · 27/07/2022 21:14

Not that militant, no. My mum is coeliac so I already know what foods are tolerable by her standards. If it says may contain, I don't worry. I can handle barley malt extract and I can eat ordinary oats - I don’t need the special gluten free ones. IBS and sensitivities aren’t like allergies or coeliac so we don’t need to be as careful, though if it is the case that FODMAPs are triggering you, you will eventually work out what you can be relaxed about and what you need to be very careful with. For me, a gluten-containing communion wafer can cause me problems! But I can usually tolerate a dash of milk in my tea or some cheese in a sandwich. It can end up looking like you’re being picky, which I find rather upsetting at times! But it's worth it for the lack of pain and digestive problems. I’m currently experiencing a flare up (3 days and counting) and will probably have to stick to the strictest diet for the time being to get it back under control, which sucks! Flowers OP, it is such a pain.
