well it works straight away but about 3-4 days they start being a bit perker, I think with mine anyway

Marina · 25/11/2004 12:04

Usually repairs dd's ears in 36 hours. Mmm, orange. We've not had that one. Hope it works for your ds3 Coddy.

codswallop · 25/11/2004 12:04

oh god three more days of it?
;(

I always find DD picks up after the first dose!!! Usually back to normal after a day or so really. Is it the one to take 3 times a day or just the slow release one dose a day? The latter will take longer.

JJ · 25/11/2004 12:19

I've always been told to double up the first dose to give the infection a whallop. Usually takes a day or two here.

Re the ear infection: when my boys get one, Nurofen usually works on the pain. Also, try a heating pad or hot water bottle under his ear when he's lying down. And I swear by steam humidifiers for chesty things (try it with Olbas oil).

codswallop · 25/11/2004 12:23

thanks all - Jj; good tips - it only seems to be bad at night as usual
this is when I remind myself NO MORE BABIES

we've got obe of those plug in vapourisers too that make eucalyptus come out or something, they are from boots and are brilliant, my ds gets croupy and it works wonders

donnie · 25/11/2004 12:26

another one! our dd was put on amoxycillin on Sunday for throat/ear infection and was still complaining of slight ear pain this morning. So that's 4 full days of the stuff.Ours is a thick yellow gloop...hope your little one feels better soon.

JJ · 25/11/2004 12:27

My two are home sick today also. Am trying to cook for Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday, but can't be arsed. Have no commitments today and I can't take them out as it's too cold ... so have lost the will to do anything constructive.

I know, I know... [yawn]

codswallop · 25/11/2004 12:44

yes ds2 has threadworms as well
I have a stinker of a cold

But no impetigo at present Coddy?
A friend's ds caught impetigo, scabies and nits all together within a week of starting school. She has not yet got over this.

codswallop · 25/11/2004 13:22

god no
dont say that!

libb · 25/11/2004 13:30

we have mellow yellow in this household - tastes like a very bizarre banana.

libb · 25/11/2004 13:31

quick question . . . does it make nappy rash worse? poor old DS has a very sore bottom and started the course a couple of days ago. Thank you.

codswallop · 25/11/2004 13:34

yes it does and can cause thrush

OP posts:
libb · 25/11/2004 13:51

fantastic . . .

JJ · 25/11/2004 18:57

libb, I've heard that those bio active yoghurt things can help with that. That's purely hearsay, gleaned from reading too much mn, but you might give it a go? My youngest loves the little drinks.

I've not gone outside in 2 days. And have just 'shushed' the tv. They have to get better soon or I'll go stark raving mad.

But threadworms and/or scabies, lice and impetigo would be worse. (Your poor friend, Marina!)

Am loving the new 'threads I'm on' feature!

codswallop · 26/11/2004 11:14

well amcuh better nioght al around and hes off to nirsery

Excellent Coddy. Similar luck now needed for libb and JJ...

nailpolish · 26/11/2004 11:49

thanks for starting this post coddy - my 5 wk old has been given amoxycillin for chest inf and i was wondering how long it would take to work too

can you tell me - do you give it with a drink or something? ive been giving it with her milk but after she has a wee drop she starts coughing and sometimes is sick so now im worrying that she is sicking up the meds. should i give her the meds between feeds

doesnt say to give with food or not

anyone?

codswallop · 26/11/2004 11:50

you are syringing right?

OP posts:
codswallop · 26/11/2004 11:51

i woudlnt give it with anything - its ever so viscous and the mixture woudl make me barf! just give it to her neat!

OP posts:
codswallop · 26/11/2004 11:51

oh and after food

OP posts:
nailpolish · 26/11/2004 11:53

it came with a wee dropper

i just squirt it to the side of her cheek, and she swallows it fine its just that at the end of the feed (shes not taking much milk anyway) she has a coughing fit which sometimes ends in a spew fest

so thought 'is it ok to give it between feeds instead'

i automatically always give meds at mealtimes, but it doesnt tell you to

fisil · 26/11/2004 12:17

I've just been prescribed amoxycillin for sinusitis - really upset to get capsules instead of the medicine (used to call it banana juice when I was little).

Will I get nappy rash & thrush?
