I always smell and he's finally told me.

Partner of 4 years has told me I smell. He said it in a polite way, as if trying to help me.

I'm 26 and tbh I've always known I sweat a lot under my arms but his comment has hit home that other people probably think I smell too.

I work in an office and I often find that 10 minutes into put on a work top, I have sweat patches under my arms and I smell; even if I wear a black blouse, I'm uncomfortable as the armpit area is absolutely soaked through even though nobody else can see it through the black.

I finally hit breaking point today wearing a pink sleeveless shirt as it was hot. I thought since it was sleeveless that there was no way sweat patches would occur. I was wrong. After driving to work and going to the staff toilet first thing in the morning, I lifted my arms up to see sweat on the material just under the armpits.

I've also resorted to regularly using work toilet soap to wash under my arms every 2 hours; I still smell. Nobody has told me I smell, but I can smell myself so I try not to stand too close to people.

Anyway, I got home and just told my boyfriend that I think I sweat more than average and he agreed and said he's noticed I've smelt for years. I'm mortified since if he's noticed then probably everyone in work thinks I smell.

I'm fit, go on lots of walks, vegetarian, so I don't understand why I sweat so much?

I've ordered Odaban spray from Amazon and hoping it'll stop the sweat, even if it burns the armpit, I'd rather that than excess sweat.

Any other tips to get me through the next 2 days at work without sweaty armpit stains though? It's not due to arrive until Friday.

Hi OP, really sorry, I don’t have time to read the full thread right now, but sure anti-perspirant spray was absolutely rubbish for me! I stank! Nivea liquid roll on and I sweat a lot less and smell fresh. Maybe trial some different anti-perspirants.

RogerThatBravoOne · 16/06/2022 09:17

Look up Driclor! Absolute game change for me.

Pinkypie86 · 16/06/2022 09:22

Mitchum. The best deodorant. Never fails. Always dry and no sweat patches even after working out.

Frazzledbutcalm · 16/06/2022 09:25

You need to go to the GP. Botox can work. There’s also other things they can do. I know you’ve said you don’t think it’s a yeast infection - it may not always have been but maybe it is now. My daughter suddenly started smelling really badly a few years ago, persevered for a couple of weeks but the smell was terrible - went to the GP, dx yeast infection, got antibiotics and was gone in a few days! It’s never occurred since.

Stravaig · 16/06/2022 09:27

I'd add, don't shave your armpits. The hair catches sweat and gives it a chance to evaporate, which is what cools you down. With bare skin, sweat runs straight into clothes, without cooling you effectively, so your body will helpfully produce more sweat, for more cooling.

Sea salt flakes mixed in with your usual soap or shower gel seems to reset odour to neutral if it seems to be building up. I do this sometimes - possibly linked to hormonal cycle or diet.

Echo everyone else on gentle soaps, natural fibres, healthy food, lots of water. And see your GP first, to rule out medical causes, which may need treatment.

OopsAnotherOne · 16/06/2022 09:28

I have hyperhidrosis on my hands and I use a product called Dermadry - it has changed my life and can be used for the underarms too! It stimulates an electrical current through your hands which triggers the sweat glands to stop producing as much sweat. It works a dream!

Lunarpsychobitch · 16/06/2022 09:29

I'm another vote for a quick visit to your GP - Excessive sweating is often linked to a problem with your thyroid gland.
I hope you get this sorted, as it must have been quite distressing to hear from your partner

Baggyeye · 16/06/2022 09:37
  1. Buy Mitchum today!
  2. Don't put perfume on your armpits.
  3. Fresh sweat shouldn't smell. Are you showering each morning?
  4. Are you washing your clothes at a hot enough temperature? It could be stale sweat in clothes heating up when you wear them and smelling

You are not alone. Lots of people are more sweaty. Am sure you are not too bad as you are conscious about it. The people I work with who smell bad either come from a culture where they don't wear deoderant or have general bad hygiene and are oblivious.

NannyR · 16/06/2022 09:39

I sweat a lot and normal anti perspirants (sure, nivea, mitchum) don't work for me - they don't keep me dry or stop body odour. What does work brilliantly for me is a crystal stone deodorant. I rub it on wet armpits straight after a shower and it stops bacteria growing on the skin, which reacts with sweat to cause body odour. It doesn't stop you sweating, but there is no bad smell at all.

PicardsVictorianChild · 16/06/2022 09:40

Apologies if someone else has suggested this but have you tried coming off the pill if you're on it? I had a very sweaty patch and it was hormonal and coming off the pill stopped it completely.

EerieSilence · 16/06/2022 09:42

My not so DAunt had a very unpleasant smell while sweating a lot. She had some thyroid issues and ended up on medication for it, which helped.

Cookiedough123 · 16/06/2022 09:44

Since I've been pregnant I feel a bit more smelly and sweaty. I have found using scented deodorant such as dove and sure make me smell so much worse! Last month I bought Perspirex from amazon, it is unscented, more of a chemical style smell but I do not smell sweaty at all now! I have also forgot the odd day and I don't get hot and sweaty like I used to. They do 3 types including extra strength but I have bought the original and it is fine for me. Might be worth a try, just about to buy my next one.

mogtheexcellent · 16/06/2022 09:46

I had this for a few years in my early 20s. I used driclor for a short while then changed to mitchum roll o and it has never returned.

OhJanet · 16/06/2022 09:48

Dri-clor is your friend! Works wonders

Towellingtub399 · 16/06/2022 09:53

Triple dry has sorted me out.

I had the same problem, could only wear black but when I started working in theatres I had to sort it out as I was in blue scrubs. Triple dry is a miracle worker!

Ohnohedident · 16/06/2022 09:53

My daughter had this problem, she went to the GP and, not sure what treatment they decided on, but its all ok now.
So another vote to check out your GP.

Reluctantadult · 16/06/2022 09:56

Go to the pharmacist and buy driclor. It will work!

Shelovespawpatrol · 16/06/2022 09:56

Try baking soda instead of deodorant. Hope it helps.

Whatagrapefruit156 · 16/06/2022 09:57

you need to SCRUB your armpits using one of those proper puff ball sponges every morning and night and apply roll on deodorant. It doesn’t matter if you sweat a lot because fresh sweat doesn’t smell, only old sweat does so you need to make sure you are scrubbing it completely away.
you may also need to throw away some t shirts as the old sweat smell may have permeated it and it might be too difficult to get the scent out now.

MadKittenWoman · 16/06/2022 09:59

Suggest Botox.

Rosehugger · 16/06/2022 09:59

Do you use anti-perspirant? Not just deodorant.

Reluctantadult · 16/06/2022 10:00

@Jpk1110o you need to get this -
www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/skin-hair/a6616/driclor/

I was prescribed it by the GP but these days you can buy it over the counter.

RudsyFarmer · 16/06/2022 10:07

It’s called Hyperhydrosis and Botox can be used under the arms to help alleviate symptoms.

pistachi0nuts · 16/06/2022 10:07

Mitchum before bed, then shower in morning and reapply, changed my life

123becauseicouldntthinkofone · 16/06/2022 10:08

Jpk1110o · 15/06/2022 22:35

I'll keep mitchum in mind I'd Odaban doesn't work, thank you!
Any tips for getting through the next 2 days though without smelling whilst I wait for Odaban to arrive

You can buy mitchum at all major supermarkets and i would defintly recommend it
