Can you experience DURING menstrual tension?

And if so, why can't I find anything about it on the Internet? All sources seem to suggest symptoms of PMT disappear once period starts. Not for me - I am def noticing pattern of tension during period.

WS

Been so long since I had a period that I just can't remember.

Hope someone else will be along with more help

PeachesMcLean · 11/01/2008 22:09

Varies. Sometimes two weeks before. Sometimes day before. On day. For a couple of days after. You name it, I've had it.
Only time sure to be free is one to two weeks after start. What joy

S1ur · 11/01/2008 22:09

I would say I could experience tension just about any time!

But hormonal related tension I woiuld have guessed could happen during?

However like Boys I also haven't had period for long long time!

Walnutshell · 11/01/2008 22:10

Thanks BALD (bald?!) x

"DMT" making me feel so cross and tetchy for several days, am really fed up with it.

WS chin up love

Peaches, that sucks

Walnutshell · 11/01/2008 22:12

Are you all period-free because you have hordes of children?!

Used to be able to handle a bit of tension, but am not liking myself for those few days. Also feel unsociable and possibly a bit paranoid. Weird?

psychomum5 · 11/01/2008 22:14

I suffer from pre/during AND after if you were to believe my husband....

I have to say tho, I DO get PMT with the hurty boobs and tiredness etc.....but WHEN I have my period I am just really cross and impatient.....and I start with the rantyness about 2days before and it goes on till two days in.

AFAIK tho, most of my friends are the same......not all, but certainly a fair amount.

most of the so called names tho for this were penned my men weren't they......says a lot

fordfiesta · 11/01/2008 22:14

erm.... about three days before, horrible low mood sets in (and it always takes me by surprise, doh) and usually lasts about 5 days. Evening primrose helps a bit, when i remember to take it.

S1ur · 11/01/2008 22:15

WS - period-free cos two dcs last 16 months ago and big bfer so no show yet.

Boys - that's tough d'ya want offload?

OracleInaCoracle · 11/01/2008 22:17

im horrendous during my period. all cramppy, weepy and angry. you are definately not alone!

Walnutshell · 11/01/2008 22:20

Yes psychomum - is the rantiness I hate, almost can't stop myself. I don't get any physical symptoms... oh no, that's a lie, last couple of times I have had a day with cramps, but relieved by paracetamol so not a problem. Hate feeling out of control and getting veeeeery shouty. Sigh.

FF - I am just starting to predict it so hopefully next month can warn dh. Luckily he is rather understanding. It's ds I feel sorry for. Someone in RL recommended Agnus Castus...??
(BTW, just read your recommendation on another thread for CD of train sounds! Sounds perfect for my ds, thanks!)

OP posts:
OracleInaCoracle · 11/01/2008 22:22

train sounds? where?

Walnutshell · 11/01/2008 22:23

Lissielou - good. I mean, not good for you, but thanks for posting! Had lovely pg, still bfing and didn't have period for about a year (more?) after ds born so had forgotten about PMT type symptoms. Now feel they are worse than before. Did I even have them before??

(Dogs - sorry you have had bad time, hope the spanking (!) on the other thread has helped cheer you up x)

Hard to know - I have never found any painkiller combination that can completely get rid of the pain. So I put down tension and bad or irrational behaviour DURING to not coping well with that. Last week I wound up snapping at DH because he kept asking me perfectly normal questions normally I am very nice and chilled!

It wouldn't surprise me if MT was normal...

psychomum5 · 11/01/2008 22:27

I find wine helps too!!!!

and ignoring the world and MNing also helps.

I don't really take anything tho to be honest. I do know that just telling DH and the kiddies that I am irritable and not calm helps as they take me seriously and leave me alone (altho they have had many years of learning).

on thing I do find that helps is herbal tea's helps....cammomile smile and very berry merry, together, with honey to sweeten, helps ENORMOUSLY! not least as it is calming and helps me sleep, which in itself is calming......

oooh......another thing......bachs rescue remedy......instant calm down drops which if they don't work (I swear by them but it may just be psychosmattic(sp?)), at least give you five seconds breathing space which may be the actual calme-down-er IYGWIM

kidsrus · 11/01/2008 22:31

walnutshell i suffer with AMT (after menstural tension) which seems like 2 long and very unbearable weeks!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well at least i get 2 happy weeks
keep thinking about seeing the doc but i think he would say something like it must be your hormones not alot i can do for you.

Walnutshell · 11/01/2008 22:31

Rescue Remedy? Really? I will try that.

Wine I have tried

Will have to go to bed now, but any suggestions gratefully received as can't carry on like this, feel it's very damaging, esp for ds who's only 2 and can't understand why I'm so unpredictable.

Thank you ladies

Walnutshell · 11/01/2008 22:32

AMT???!!

Desperate to avoid going to GP - hate talking about emotional/mental stuff with them and don't want tablets right now - although then again...

OK, really am off now.

Upwind · 11/01/2008 22:34

I second the rescue remedy, have no idea how it works but it does seem to

and a hotwater bottle, not just for the cramps but for the soothing effect

southeastastra · 11/01/2008 22:34

how old are you? women are programmed to breed until we can't anymore, therefore we're prone to more problems when we aren't having children (when we should be) so we have to suffer the consequences

MrsEi25 · 11/01/2008 22:39

i do have this too... and pre and post MT and mid month tension...basically i am just a grumpy sod 24/7 but in answer to your question yes you can have it during aswell!! i think its down to the fact that although you are a literally bloody mess you are expected to carry on as normal as its just a part of life so says my mum, DH etc...[grrr]
xx ei xx

Jacanne · 11/01/2008 22:39

I'm pretty sure that during happens to me. I usually get a migraine about 2 days before but this time I didn't, was all happy and then bang, it arrived yesterday, 3 days into my period. I look back on my period free 27 months with fond regret and can add another point in favour of having a 3rd child

psychomum5 · 11/01/2008 22:46

and that is why I am mum to five......

southeastastra · 11/01/2008 22:49

five is nothing, my nan had 11.

it's sad isn't it in a way. we should all have lots of children. i'd like it.
