I had that too. It comes back over Christmas and times of over-eating.

I cured it by burning it off. It's the only way I'm afraid. Running between 18 and 30 miles a week.

I tried swimming and gym, but they had no effect at all.

Rantmum · 07/01/2008 14:12

I have that too (since ds) also size 12 and can almost, but not quite, lose it if I am not pigging out (like at Christmas). Pre baby body had no "extra" bits so it came as quite a shock - still there even after losing all the other baby weight!

granarybeck · 07/01/2008 14:13

Will watch this with interest. Losing my "extra bits" is my new years resolution. I am a size 12 too

pass the lard, someone

Pilates is GREAT for toning up; if you could manage a bit of cardio as well (30 mins 3 to 4 times a week), pilates will tone you and get rid of the muffin top in a couple of months.

colditz · 07/01/2008 14:21

Buy higher waisted jeans

themoon66 · 07/01/2008 14:21

Honestly, you really do have to burn it off. I tried low calorie diets, swimming, gym etc. They made me thinner all over, but still with stubborn muffin ridge round middle.

Running is the only way. It seems to burn the middle bit, but still leave tits and arse nicely shaped and intact rather than scrawny.

sweetheart · 07/01/2008 14:22

I have reduced mine - but it's still there. My answer is 100's and 100's of sit ups - vary the position to get every bit of your stomach. I especially like boxers crunch's and side bends with heavy weights (ideally 7.5 to 10Kg's if you can manage it).

I also recommend running too although I haven't ever managed 3 miles let alone 30! A 10-20 min once or twice a week would be a good start for a beginner.

Rantmum · 07/01/2008 14:22

I would run 18 - 30 miles a week, but my toddler can't run that far and I can't just abandon him at home...actually, I wouldn't run 18-30 miles a week even if I could.

Actually, she is horribly annoying and thin but her dvd is great for toning up post baby areas (and with dedication does seriously reduce my muffin top)

here

Must search out and dust off my copy...

sweetheart · 07/01/2008 14:23

Also Tae Bo is great for the abs, although probably no good if you have a bad back!

themoon66 · 07/01/2008 14:23

I agree that pilates is great for toning up, but lovely six pack was still well hidden under layer of muffin.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 07/01/2008 14:36

I'd say running too, but as you can't, I'd say swimming. As many lengths as you can as often as possible - with any luck you'll soon get addicted to that lovely stretched-out feeling you get post-exercise.

Swimming will take longer to show results but it will protect your back (unless you're a wierdy and choose to do butterfly stroke).

Would your bad back cope with using a rebounder or trampoline? Only gentle bouncing not somersaults! Or possibly use an exercise bike if you can sit comfortably.

what about x-trainer, would that burn it like running?

I have a small stubborn pouch that looks hideous - can't see it in clothes but can in underwear/bikini etc SO annoying, know where you're coming from!

Hassled · 07/01/2008 14:41

I've successfully got rid of mine!
My secret - I went to Marks's and bought an old lady's hold-it-all-in undergarment. It's my new best friend. It appears to push the lard into my breasts or under my arms where no one notices and I no longer look slightly pregnant.

sweetheart · 07/01/2008 14:42

Mine was at it's smallest when I was doing at least 30 mins cardio excercise every day without fail - plus a few 100 sit ups.

Sadly, I'm not as dedicated now so it's reappearing a bit!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 07/01/2008 14:58

Points & laughs at Hassleds fat armpits.

Jeans cause super-muffins. I really don't understand why so many women wear jeans so religiously. You'll be wanting a nice pair of stretchy leggings, maybe with a ladder in 'em...

JeremyVile · 07/01/2008 14:59

I eat the bottom part first and save the muffin top til last - it's the nicest part, innit?

jezzemx · 07/01/2008 15:05

I'm a size 12 and would lurvvve to get rid of my muffin top but the thought of having to run for miles is making me feel sick.

I had an awful experience the other day.
I was on the bus, sitting near the back (above the wheel arch) and every time the wheel hit a bump I could feel the skin under my chin wobble!!!! I have never experience this before I am v shocked.

So do any of you have any ideas on getting rid of chin fat (without using a scalpel)?

Flibbertyjibbet · 07/01/2008 15:08

I got rid of my muffin top by wearing trousers that come further up. I don't look like Simon Cowell, no one can tell how far trousers come up if you are wearing your top outside not tucked in.
I am old enough to have worn waist-high trousers throughout my teenage and 20-something years and they are far more comfortable and flattering than hipster ones which always look like they are falling down.
I've never liked the hipster trousers and can't wait for the fashion to go so that we can go back to trousers with the waists where they are supposed to be - at our waists. I guarantee you ladies there will be no muffin tops, bottoms will look shapelier and ladies will look, well, lady shaped again.
