Eyelid twitching for weeks

Slightlyscared · 22/03/2022 16:08

I have had a twitch in my eyelid for about 2-3 weeks and it is driving me round the twist now.
I thought it was caused by tiredness at first but now I'm not so sure and getting a bit paranoid about it.

I have a routine GP appointment next week so I will mention it then, but in the meantime can anyone else tell me if this is normal!

Ah op I had it too for about three weeks recently, and I too was scared.

I took magnesium and it seems to have now gone for the most part, however using my phone seems to trigger it so I've been trying to cut my phone use too.

OnlyTwistyOnes · 22/03/2022 16:16

I had this, also had a blocked ear. When the ear blockage went so did the eye twitch.

I'm weird like that though. I'd try the magnesium.

I'll try magnesium because this is seriously doing my head in.

My mum had this after having a stroke, it was small seizures.

Weirdly I had ear pains the other week on the same side as the twitchy eye!!

I had this when I was pregnant
Think it is hormonal for me

Punxsutawney · 22/03/2022 17:47

I had it with Covid. It started the day my Covid symptoms appeared and lasted for a month. It was driving me to distraction. After using the search facility on here, I tried magnesium and it seems to have worked.

Everything I read about it says it's nearly always benign. The advice is to try and have a stress free life and sleep well..... easier said than done.

sweetbellyhigh · 22/03/2022 17:50

I had this for weeks but just like previous poster it stopped when I started taking a magnesium supplement.

m030978 · 22/03/2022 17:53

I had it a few years ago.
Thought it was tiredness, nope, it didn't go away in the holidays.
Thought it was hayfever, nope, didn't go away when the pollen did (I had it from April til about October!!)
Tried all sorts, but Magnesium was the thing that sorted it. Now I take magnesium every day and its not come back. Daren't stop taking the magnesium though!

Slightlyscared · 22/03/2022 17:53

Luckily I have some magnesium and zinc supplements lurking at the back of my cupboard. I'm going to take one tonight before I go to bed - let's hope they do the trick

Sorry to say I had this for 18 months. Finally went away as suddenly as it had appeared. Hopefully yours will resolve quickly.

HumptySumptious · 22/03/2022 18:15

I've had this before when I was writing my thesis - my GP thought it was stress-related.

Porridgeislife · 22/03/2022 18:29

My eye twitch is iron related. I need fairly good iron levels (>50) for it to go away. It’s one of the first symptoms I get when my iron levels are dropping.

Magnesium did nothing for me despite taking it for nearly a year.

BabycakesMatlala · 22/03/2022 18:33

Low zinc/magnesium most likely culprits, followed by low iron.

JoanThursday · 22/03/2022 18:38

I had this when I was studying for exams. I think it was a combination of stress, eye strain and needing reading glasses! Cleared up when I go varifocals and had finished my exams.

Toloveandtowork · 22/03/2022 19:13

I think it can be stress related. I had it a few years ago and that's what the GP said. It went after a few weeks.

Foreverbaffled · 22/03/2022 19:16

Oh I had this a few years ago! Lasted about a month and I got all worried about it too. One day it just stopped. So strange.

poshme · 22/03/2022 19:57

I had this. I do sometimes have low iron, but this time it was that I needed new glasses. My prescription had changed considerably, and the optician said that my eye may have been straining, so the muscles were getting very tired.

Once I got my new glasses it stoped within a day or two.

Have you had your eyes tested OP?

I'm well overdue an eye test. I don't wear my glasses as much as I should and I can tell my eyesight has deteriorated. Maybe it is that.

I'm kind of relieved to hear many others have had the same issue though. The PP who had it for 18 months that must have been so irritating!!

I had this for about three months after starting a new job. I put it down to the intense concentration and amount I had to learn. It's a standing joke now, I always ask new members of my team if they've got an eye twitch yet 😂.

Slightlyscared · 23/03/2022 06:49

Well I forgot to take magnesium last night because I was so tired I fell asleep early.
It's already twitching like a bitch again.

Oh I have this at the moment, it’s so annoying! At first I thought it was just from tiredness but it’s never lasted this long before (2 weeks). Will try magnesium.

sweetbellyhigh · 23/03/2022 07:17

Take it now!
Slightlyscared · 23/03/2022 12:23

I'm taking it this evening. The bottle says on an empty stomach or 30-60 mins before bedtime!

I get this when I'm anxious and stressed
