Omg this is awful - incontinence

Reaching out on here and have name changed.
A couple of days ago I had a mild bout of diarrhoea. Probably went 4/5 times over 2/3 hours. By the next morning it had gone, but I'm now very uncomfortable. I feel as if I need to break wind or go to the loo but there is only a watery substance and it is leaking every half hour or so, or when I do break wind. It's not horrific, no one else would be aware of it (I don't think!) . I have a cramping pain in my lower abdomen. I don't think I've been to the loo properly since but when I try to go am passing very small pieces of matter. No blood as far as I can see.
Any advice would be very welcome!

There's also quite a strong feeling of needing to go to the loo - but only watery mucus and tiny bit of matter is there

Phone a doctor

KylieCharlene · 20/02/2022 12:48

Could you be constipated and this be 'overflow'?

maddening · 20/02/2022 12:49

I find lying down with a hot water bottle, let the area relax a bit might help.

Eupraxia · 20/02/2022 12:50

This could be food poisoning.

RubyFrench · 20/02/2022 12:50

I'm wondering if it could be overflow. I'm timing the instances and hoping they are getting further apart.

Sounds like a bad gastro bug. I'd call 111 as it's been a few days.

RubyFrench · 20/02/2022 12:51

Thanks I do feel a bit under the weather, I can't lie down yet as I have a friend coming round, it's been arranged for weeks and I don't want to let her down.

Assuming this is real, taking advice on health matters from Internet strangers isn't great, especially as there is a troll who comes on here and gets off on talking about this subject, call a doctor tomorrow and see what they say.

RubyFrench · 20/02/2022 12:53

Thanks I'm aware of a poo troll but I don't think I've ever actually seen any posts from them. I'm not it! I know those people suggesting a doc are right. It's not an emergency - doesn't feel like it, anyway - I was just hoping for reassurance, maybe someone who has experienced similar.
Much appreciated your replies.

Yeah 111 is your best bet

Let her down if you are this unwell.
Iusedtoliveinsanfrancisco · 20/02/2022 13:03

If you’re not going out see your friend weirdly it may help. Drink 1-2 litres water and if it’s not improved by tomorrow call your gp/ get an e consult. It’s annoying but not serious. Good luck

Gizacluethen · 20/02/2022 13:05

If I was your friend I'd rather you cancel then potentially catch a stomach bug off you.
I really hate when people choose to socialise even when they know they have a stomach bug. I'd take covid or the flu any day.

If I were your friend I would VASTLY prefer to be ‘let down’ than risk catching your stomach bug.

Hi there, @RubyFrench - we're just bobbing on here to let you know that we've moved your thread over to General Health and we hope you get well soon. Flowers

The poo troll is like the common law marriage myth: often discussed but never seen

Isababybel · 20/02/2022 13:12

I think you need to see a gp asap. It probably isnt this at all but these could be signs of colon cancer.
It does also sound like a bug (i had a similar one last year causing nighttime incontinence..horrific) but they don't tend to come and go.

KeepYaHeadUp · 20/02/2022 13:15

Yep, you should wait 48 hours after your last bout of diarrhoea. If you're still unwell you should cancel.

Also call 111 as it doesn't sound right

PennyDeFuckwit · 20/02/2022 13:21

I had something similar years ago - the bowel is irritated by the initial bug (I assume?) and it gets overactive and generates a bit of mucus afterwards. It didn't last but it wasn't fun, for sure.

I'd be tempted to give it 24 hours, stick to bland beige soluble fibre to eat and don't drink anything too hot (that can irritate too apparently) or caffeinated.

If it continues through the night and you're still unwell, call the GP in the morning and see if you can get a telephone appointment.

Hope you feel better soon. Flowers

Whataroyalannoyance · 20/02/2022 13:32

Please don't let your friend come over. If its a bug she will get ill!

AnxiousHeffalump · 20/02/2022 13:35

I would see a doctor as soon as possible. Relative had something similar. It went on for months and they have now been diagnosed with cancer.

RubyFrench · 20/02/2022 13:35

Thank so much, I've just got some ginger in hot water and a bottle. I would hate to give it to her so I'll have to give her a ring

You should let her down. If you have a bug she’s not going to thank you for passing it on!!
Hairyfriend · 20/02/2022 13:41

Could be a gastric bug, something like norovirus (although its normally accompanied by vomiting) or food intolerance

Have you had antibiotics recently for anything? Mucous could be C-diff.

I'd get checked for covid- which can present as diarrhoea

Keep your fluids up. For every loose bowel motion, drink some dioralyte to repace the electrolytes. Bananas are great to replace potassium and bind stools up. Avoid spicy, oily or diary- the exception being kefir. Call you GP if not settling and ask for a sample to be sent to the lab.
