Should I call 111?

My 20 month old has a fever and heat rash. Ear thermometer says he's 39 or 40'C but says I'm 34'c so it can't be accurate. He's not drowsy or other wise in pain. I've given him Calpol and lots of water. I really don't want to get sent to A&E and I feel like 111 is overly cautious. He's covid negative as did a PCR on Friday evening.

Yes...he is young and has a very high fever. Children struggle to regulate thier body temperature.
I eoukd call 111 and you will probably get an out of hours GP appointment.

2YearsOfWastedTime · 19/02/2022 23:11

How do you know its heat rash?

Just because a PCR was negative on Friday, he could now have Covid

Aquamarine1029 · 19/02/2022 23:14

Why wouldn't you want to go to A&E if it's necessary? Confused

whataballbag · 19/02/2022 23:17

What does the rash look like

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 19/02/2022 23:19

Call 111

Nannyamc · 19/02/2022 23:21

Do not take any chances 111 now please.

whataballbag · 19/02/2022 23:22

You do need to ring. Very unlikely they will suggest a&e rash unless it's one that looks like blood spots or bruising under the skin.

Could be many different things.

whataballbag · 19/02/2022 23:22

And if it does look like blood spots or bruises under the skin he needs a&e immediately or 999 if you can't get him there fast.

Poppy709 · 19/02/2022 23:58

That’s a very high fever, how do you know it’s heat rash? Is the fever coming down with medication, ibuprofen is better for treating fevers than calpol.

Do the glass test on rash though. If it doesn't dissappear ring 111

DropYourSword · 20/02/2022 00:19

Don't piss about with differing opinions on Mumsnet. Phone 111 for qualified medical advice!

MichaelMumsnet · 20/02/2022 08:35

Hi all. We've moved this one over to General health.

Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. If you have medical concerns, please seek medical attention ; if you think your problem could be acute, do so immediately. Even qualified doctors can't diagnose over the internet, so do bear that in mind when seeking or giving advice.

PeacefulPrune · 20/02/2022 09:22

@Aquamarine1029 of course I want to go IF it's necessary. This post is helping work out if it is.

I think it's heat rash because its not bright red, it goes away when I put a glass over it and it looks like heat rash when I look at all the rashes on the NHS website.

I’d call 111 and see if you can get an out of hours GP appointment to be checked over.

Susu49 · 20/02/2022 09:27

I'd still call 111 op. Better to be safe.
