Smoking cessation

I know Mumsnet hates smokers so I am not expecting any support here - more just that I wanted to create a sort of log. I started smoking at uni when I was 21, I'm now 48.

I've joined Boots smoking cessation programme and have patches and a spray thing. I also have a vape. I think the habit of smoking - the punctuation points in the day - is going to be really hard to quit, but I realise I have everything to gain from stopping and nothing to gain from smoking.

Reasons to stop:

Health
Wealth
It's embarrassing to smoke and I am ashamed to be the last raver still at the party!

I have not smoked today.

Day 26 ✔️

@PiperPosey I am just kind of winging it with the vape and different liquids. I have a mouth spray from the pharmacist I have never opened so I figure it’s fine.

Judy you are doing really good! So what ever you are doing is working... Keep it up! YAY Wine

Ah, thank you so much @PiperPosey 😊.

Day 27 almost done. The NHS quit app actually stops at 28 days.

Next week might be a challenge as DP leaves for a work trip on the red eye tomorrow, and he isn’t back until late next Saturday. I am WFH Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday meeting a friend for lunch, Thursday in work, Friday WFH but going for lunch with my neighbour, and Saturday meeting my delightful gay BFF who will try to ply me with cocktails. Monday will be the hardest day as I have only one online class to teach. Tuesday I teach all morning and one class in the afternoon so am kept busy.

Wow you will be busy... Take your vape if you need a hit... choose a nicotine that's close to what you get from your patches.. {flowers]

Whatever will get you through it... Yay.. doing good honey!

Congratulations, nearly a month!
I've listened to the advice on this thread and my birthday is a week tomorrow. I had my last cig yesterday afternoon. Vaping now and hoping I can do this too.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/03/2022 23:06

Day 29, coming to a close. How are you getting on @WigglesWaggles?

Well done @Judystilldreamsofhorses that's great! I'm doing okay, 2 days and 18 hours without a cigarette. Although I do seem to have the vape surgically attached to me at this point.

Fabulous... What I was told by experts... vape the same amount of NIcotine as you would find in a cigarette to start.

I smoked Marlboro lights.. so I started at 12... tapered down to 6 and will stay at that.

Now if you plan on going vape free eventually than of course taper off... finally down to 0 nic. if you choose..than off.. But thrilled that you have the vape... soon you can't imagine that you even smoked.
GO YOU... Cake

Day 31! I kind of wish I had started on the 1st because it feels messy, but whatever.

@WigglesWaggles you’re doing great! I have patches so use the vape more like a prop, going out “for a cigarette” per when I smoked.

@PiperPosey I was also a Marlboro Lights gal!

Hi all

Just checking back in. It's been a while as I've been really busy.

So pleased to see how well everyone is doing still Smile

I'm now on day 77 and vaping away.

Haven't really been thinking about smoking and don't check my app everyday now to count the days. Although wondering if I'll still be saying once the warmer weather's here and I'm sat in a pub garden!

Next step is I'm going to try and go down to a weaker level of nicotine at the end of the month.

WigglesWaggles · 19/03/2022 06:50

Everyone is doing great! Glad to see it. Well done!

Just checking in myself day 7 for me today.. very stressful things going on at the moment but still not going near the smelly sticks and still very attached to my vape.

PaulineFowlersCardigan · 19/03/2022 09:00

Everyone is doing so well! Day 36 here, even made it through drinks with friends and didn’t even reach for one. The only downside is I can’t stop eating. I wonder if I should have tried a vape along with patches.
Was walking a LOT to try to offset it up until a few days ago, but I’ve now got covid again and can’t get off sofa 😩. The upside is, although my chest is bad, I’m so relieved I stopped smoking!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/03/2022 23:00

@PaulineFowlersCardigan I think I might have covid too - I have all the symptoms but am negative on lateral flows. Day 36 today and actually not even patches for the last two days because I feel so rank. Waiting on PCR.

PiperPosey · 22/03/2022 01:38

You guys are doing so well... Wow..
covid...Horrible...ugh... absolutely horrible. ((HUGS))

All is good with the vaping for years...Went out today to meet friends. 2 were smoking...and my vape was perfect! Love you all Flowers

We got this!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/03/2022 16:03

Positive PCR result 🙄. Day 37 of no smoking.

@PiperPosey thst’s so great you can be around people smoking and feel happy with the vape.

PiperPosey · 22/03/2022 18:46

Yep..I'm NOT missing out on a thing...Like I said before I couldn't imagine putting a cig in my mouth.

After 30 years...of smoking 1-2 packs a day! So many non smokers* would glare, and wave invisible smoke away. I was a polite smoker..never blowing in anyone's face.

I heard often.."You know you shouldn't smoke it's bad for your health."
NO shit Sherlock... As they guzzled their 10th beer and weighing over 200 for a normal weight.

I hadn't added that my husband smokes...that's when I struggled the first week. I drink...and he doesn't so it balances out..ha
I do have a better vape than the one in the picture.

Judy and everyone on this thread are doing fabulous! GO US
( and you thought that you would be slammed and criticized for starting this on Mumsnet... Ha..You got such support here Jude..

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/03/2022 00:04

I got such great support @PiperPosey! Thanks so much to everyone ❤️

Day 38, done. I would usually go to the pharmacy for my patches tomorrow but am under house arrest. I’ve not had a patch on since Saturday when I got really sick, but I do really feel like I want to complete the programme.

Bogeyes · 24/03/2022 04:14

I used to smoke 20 a day but have up years ago. Best thing I ever did! I am full of admiration for anybody who quits smoking. Please don't return to tobacco. Your body will thank you for it! Stay strong. Soon you will stop counting the days. You will eventually stop thinking about cigs. Well done. Good luck

I'm feeling pretty grotty had an array of symptoms and currently experiencing insomnia but drastically feeling tired and need some sleep 🤦🏼‍♀️
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 31/03/2022 00:06

@glitterelf I am on day 12 of Covid and still testing positive. It has been really horrible, despite three jabs. Symptoms have gone from fever, cough, vomiting, blocked nose/ears, upset tummy, just everything! No smell/taste either. Bleurgh. Hope you recover soon!
