Help ! Can you have an ectopic pregnancy without any bleeding ?

I am 9 weeks pregnant and have been suffering with sharp abdominal pain, low down on my right side. I have been having general niggles for a few weeks but this intense pain has been going on for about a week now, each day I have been having more and more pains - yesterday I spent the day in bed as they were more frequent.
If I get up without thinking I get a sharp pulling pain, I also get a pain if I cough or sneeze and am caught off guard.
I can't really describe the pain very well, it hurts..... I've been trying to make out it's not too bad to DH as there's nothing he can do but I've found myself in tears over the last 2-3 days. It's almost like a very sharp and quite quick (onlylasts a couple of seconds) pain, like someone poking a hot sharp needle into my tummy.

I'm due to be booking in with my midwife on Thursday, I can't get in before then as she is only at the surgery on a Thursday.

I haven't had any shoulder pain - well I have slightly but I think maybe I was imagining it to be worse than it was after reading the shoulder pain is a symptom.
I am very light headed, I feel faint getting up out of a chair, walking up stairs etc

take them with you, it's pretty important. it probably is nothing but let's say it is an ectopic pregnancy, if they catch it in time they can do a laporoscopic procedure which doesn't take long to recover from physically and causes less internal bleeding and later adhesions and other complications. if it goes to an emergency they open you up completely and really concentrate more on stemming the blood and saving your life than protecting your future fertility.

PanicPressiePants · 31/12/2007 16:08

Did you go to A&E earlier or the gps?

Aitch · 31/12/2007 16:09

and yes, belgo, i'm so sorry, it's so upsetting isn't it, even though they're so teeny?

lulumama · 31/12/2007 16:09

so sorry belgo

that must be difficult

Foghorn... can you take a friend or family member with you to A&E again, whilst DH stays with the DCs

my best friend almost died 4 years ago, she had an ectopic, it ruptured, she needed surgery and almost died from blood loss and complications.

however hard it is to get to A&E and get a scan, please try

your health and that of your baby is paramount

don't want to scare you , but my friend was at work, with a bit of a tummy ache and ended up being taken to hospital, full on blues and twos, a few hours later

belgo · 31/12/2007 16:10

The thing is Foghorn, it could be something very innocent like ligaments stretching or bowel pain. But you are obviously worried, and a scan will either help you stop worrying or aid you to getting the treatment you need.

PoinsettiaBouquets · 31/12/2007 16:10

TBH tonight is possibly the worst night of the year to go to A&E, esp with kids. Good luck, really feeling for you.

Aitch · 31/12/2007 16:11

are there any other hospitals nearby? or an Early Pregnancy Unit. givvus the area and we can search for you.

PanicPressiePants · 31/12/2007 16:11

So sorry belgo

belgo · 31/12/2007 16:11

oh and I went for the scan on my own - I found it easier that way, and due to the practicalities of dh looking after my two dds.

thanks lulu and aitch.

belgo · 31/12/2007 16:12

oh and thanks Panicpants.

Aitch · 31/12/2007 16:13

isn't there a really gobby take-no-shit pal you can take with you?

FlllightAttendant · 31/12/2007 16:14

She s in Northampton Aitch. Sorry Foghorn, didn't mean to sound funny, I was just doing the worried mother bit ('And put on your vest, dear')

I hope you can manage to get seen by somebody different, I know I would feel the same about going back to the person I saw earlier.

FoghornLeghorn · 31/12/2007 16:14

It's Northampton Aitch.
I'm usually the gobby take no shit one !

Belgo love, are you OK?

Aitch · 31/12/2007 16:15

oh bum. actually as i typed that i thought 'hmm, that's usually me'.

so are there other hospitals in N'hampton? and is there an EPU bearby?

belgo · 31/12/2007 16:16

I'm fine thanks FA.

FoghornLeghorn · 31/12/2007 16:23

Just called and got through to the doctor I saw earlier, he said if I can get there in the next half hour he will have me seen straight away and sent over to Gynae ward.
Looks like I might be seeing the New Year in at the hospital !

FlllightAttendant · 31/12/2007 16:25

Oh brilliant! I am so pleased/relieved

Please let us know how you get on, we are all crossing our fanjos for you, if you will excuse the expression...

PanicPressiePants · 31/12/2007 16:25

Thats great news FHLH, let us know how it goes. Good Luck and I'm sure it'll be fine x

FoghornLeghorn · 31/12/2007 16:26

I had to tell them the pain was getting worse, which it isn't

OP posts:
FlllightAttendant · 31/12/2007 16:28

Don't worry. It is your right to be seen about this. You got nowhere by being truthful, so you had no choice!

CarGirl · 31/12/2007 16:29

thank goodness, I hope it's really good news this evening

belgo · 31/12/2007 16:32

FA is right - it is absolutely your right to have a scan in these circumstances which is why I told you my story - I hope the scan reassures you - let us know!

FoghornLeghorn · 31/12/2007 16:35

Mum is coming to watch the girls, Dh & I are heading off as soon as she arrives. Glad I'm not going alone.
Will let you all know

Aitch · 31/12/2007 16:39

good decision about the exaggeration, keep doing it until they scan you. the doc will hopefully be shitting himself now so will pull out the stops.
i will be thinking of you and praying that it's absolutely nothing to worry about and we've all panicked you for nothing.
