I woke up with these rust colour marks all over my hands.

I haven't eaten anything different to normal and I haven't touched anything out of the ordinary.

I went to sleep and they were there when I woke up. How????

Rusty zip from bedding?

Kilpitlees · 11/01/2022 14:00

Have you handled any dodgy cash stained from a bank robbery Grin

steppemum · 11/01/2022 14:06

It could be food related.

eg lemon juice or salt water etc.

I have had this a couple of times, and it comes up a few hours after food prep.

Postdatedpandemic · 11/01/2022 14:06

Do you hold your toothbrush in the smudgy hand (second photo)?

Soubriquet · 11/01/2022 14:08

How weird

I get it sometimes too, and it doesn’t wash off

One day it’s there, then it’s gone again.

Torturedsoul · 11/01/2022 14:09

I had this last year, it resolved itself in a couple of days but never did get to bottom of it. Apparently citrus can sometimes cause it and I did have lemon the night before but had never reacted before.

mawbroon · 11/01/2022 14:10

Cornettoninja just might have found it 😲😲

I checked my armpits and found these marks! Excuse the hairy oxters 😆

Ties in with it being sweat related. My palms were quite sweaty when I woke up

I’ve had this! It took a few days to disappear but was definitely not staining and no amount of scrubbing made a difference. Nothing on tissue after rubbing either. If I remember correctly there was an old post on gransnet full of people it had happened to too.

I’d forgotten about it til now. It hasn’t happened again.

CandleWick4 · 11/01/2022 14:23

How strange OP, is it anywhere else other than your hands and armpits?

NanTheWiser · 11/01/2022 14:24

Similar thread here not sure if it’s any help?

Me too! It was years ago and the exact same colour. So strange
debbs77 · 11/01/2022 14:29

I had this last week too! No idea what it was!

Jjjaaakkk · 11/01/2022 14:37

I get this from peeling sweet potato or butternut squash!

mawbroon · 11/01/2022 14:50

In your armpits too Jjjaaakkk??

🤔🤔

From cutting peppers. It stains your skin.

EveningOverRooftops · 11/01/2022 14:55

From cutting peppers. It stains your skin.
And it doesn’t scrub off. Just fades
SoupDragon · 11/01/2022 14:55

I was going to ask if you'd been doing any gardening but you're unlikely to have rubbed your armpits on anything at this time of year.

Flustered4 · 11/01/2022 15:00

Me too! I had this a few months ago, rust coloured palms just appeared one day and faded away over a couple of days! Really odd! Google did reveal that it is 'a thing' that some people get with no known cause.

Cluckycluck · 11/01/2022 15:01

@mawbroon

No answers on the staining but DH has granuloma annulare and his main problem area is the armpits. It looks exactly the same as yours, albeit he's much hairy and I imagine yours smell better 🤣

ColdandFrosty1 · 11/01/2022 15:05

Ah oh my god this happened to me a few months ago! I hasn't touched anything new or different u.e put on make up, use self tan etc. It faded after a day then disappeared completely. I never found out what it was! Apparently if you use any kind of orange food colouring or spices it can cause it to come out in your skin. I just went with that explanation because I put a load of peri peri salt in my chips the night before Grin

TroysMammy · 11/01/2022 15:07

Any other symptoms? Fatigue, low mood, loss of appetite, increased thirst?

Captainrachy · 11/01/2022 15:08

Soy sauce can cause this colour staining.

This happened to me before and I never figured out what the cause was but it washed off after a day or two.

eagerlywaitingfor · 11/01/2022 15:10

Do you happen to have a poinsettia plant in the house?

They are part of the euphorbia family, the sap of which can cause marks like that.

maddy68 · 11/01/2022 15:13

Covid symptoms.

Inthesameboatatmo · 11/01/2022 15:23

It's just weird op. Sorry no other input I'm flummoxed
