What is this lump inside my nose?

Clueless2000 · 06/01/2022 23:26

Few days ago I brushed the end of my nose with my hand and it felt very mildly sensitive - I couldn’t see anything but assumed I just had a spot coming up under the skin on the end of my nose.

I’ve now noticed a fleshy lump, just on the upper inside of my nostril. I can see it if I pull my nostril. It feels fleshy, doesn’t hurt, is red and has no obvious head so I don’t think it’s a spot. It possibly looks like it might have fluid in it.

What could it be and should I be concerned? I’m a bit of a worrier so any reassurance would be welcomedSmile

A cyst maybe ?

Vapeyvapevape · 06/01/2022 23:29

Have you tried giving it a squeeze?

ghislaine · 06/01/2022 23:29

Nasal polyp?

Clueless2000 · 06/01/2022 23:34

I’ve not tried squeezing as there doesn’t seem to be an head to it.

I looked up polyps but everything I read says they’re “grape shaped” (!) and seem to kind of hang by a bit of skin - or something like that??

Would a cyst be painful? (Because this isn’t)

Not necessarily, only maybe if they become infected. Can you get a picture of it?

Clueless2000 · 08/01/2022 00:06

Can’t believe I’m posting pics of the inside of my nostril but…here it is

That's a good old fashioned spot appearing, in my none- medical opinion!

Clueless2000 · 08/01/2022 00:17

Well that’s the thing - it looks like quite a sizeable spot but doesn’t hurt at all. As I said, the tip of my nose was slightly sensitive a few days ago when I touched it but I assumed that was a spot brewing underneath the skin on the outside of my nose. But nothing appeared and then I noticed this.

How is it today ?

Clueless2000 · 08/01/2022 09:26

The same, really. Possibly a tiny bit smaller. Why can’t I just be a normal person who thinks “ah, it’s just a spot” rather than “it’s clearly some kind of face-rotting cancerous growth”?!!

OP posts:
Vapeyvapevape · 08/01/2022 13:29

How can you resist sticking a pin in it Grin

Clueless2000 · 08/01/2022 14:23

Because I’m worried it’ll get infected and it will swell and be a big throbbing crusty disgustingness hanging out my nose

OP posts:

It looks like a spot but it could be a cold sore which sometimes start a bit like a spot,

Clueless2000 · 15/02/2022 20:32

Just coming back to this as I still have the lump in my nose. I think it’s smaller, doesn’t hurt but it’s still there. I can’t really see it properly. It looks like it might have a slight head on it but for all those of you who are going to say squeeze it, it really doesn’t feel like a spot.

It’s been about 6 weeks now and the sane part of me has been ignoring it and saying it would’ve got worse by now if it was something to worry about but the hypochondriac in me is beginning to take over. Any reassurance gratefully received!

Hi , I also have even suffering for the first time with nasal lumps. And was eventually given an antibiotic cream.
The nurse I spoke to said that she has gone from seeing this rarely to nearly all the time. And that she blames the lateral flow tests . People sticking things up their noses creating a abrasion which is then becoming infected by our natural nose bacteria.

MissManagable · 17/02/2022 10:34

Have you tried putting any cream/spot ointment on it to see if it dries it up a bit or forms a head?

(Sorry, but I wouldn't be able to resist giving that a right squeeze!)- then dettol!

Clueless2000 · 17/02/2022 19:05

Actually @evrey I was wondering about that as it first appeared at a time when I was having to test every day for about 2 weeks. Was your lump sore?

I thought about trying spot cream @MissManagable but wouldn’t a normal spot be gone after such a long time (2 months)? Also I’m not sure I could squeeze it, it’s in an awkward place!(and I’m a bit scared!!!)

MissManagable · 18/02/2022 09:46

@Clueless2000 not necessarily, spots need treatment to clear up (the fluid needs to come out/dry up). I'd try a dab of acnecide, it's a peroxide cream.

Does the fluid seem to move a bit when you press it a little?

Clueless2000 · 18/02/2022 12:12

It’s really hard to know as I can’t see it properly. It just feels…fleshy?

Can you nip to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist to have a look? They should be able to tell you what they think it is, give you an ointment or cream, or whether to see a GP?

I think we've all got in to this mindset of not wanting to bother GPs, but your worried and its been there 2 months now- I'd say get it checked.

Clueless2000 · 18/02/2022 22:57

I think I’d be a bit embarrassed to ask a pharmacist to look up my nose - would rather a GP in a surgery where no one else can see meGrin !

BertieBotts · 18/02/2022 23:06

If you're worried then go to the GP. But I think it's a lingering spot.

evrey · 19/02/2022 08:05

Yes my lump was incredibly sore . And all the creams Vaseline etc that I bought over the counter made it worse. Eventually the doc prescribed an antibiotic cream which has cleared it.

Who told you to put Vaseline on a spot??
