Deep ache in hip? Anyone had anything similar?

For the last week and a half I’ve had a deep throbbing ache in my left ache. It’s worse when doing anything but still there even when I’m laid down so it’s constant.

Anyone had anything similar? Could it just be something simple? I will contact GP but don’t want to bother them unnecessarily if it’s nothing especially at the minute with everything going on with covid etc

@iklboo

I've had similar pain but sort of brushed it off. Went to hospital for an x-ray after hurting my back (thank you two popped lumbar discs) and the doc casually told me I have osteoarthritis. It can be a nightmare trying to get comfortable sometimes. Like toothache deep in my hip.

I take tramadol for combined back / hip pain and use the Voltarol 2.32% muscle rub. A TENS machine helps too.

Oh wow, I bet that was a shock. Can oesteoarthitis happen at any age?

Omg toothache deep in my hip describes this perfectly. I couldn’t think how to describe it.

I should have mentioned labral tear as well. This is what I have, caused by my hip dysplasia.
I’m in the most pain if I try to lie on my side, which I can only do for very short periods, and I have to sleep on my front.
The physio told me to avoid crossing one leg over the other when sitting. Sleeping with a pillow between your knees can help with pain.
If you go to the GP you can ask for a referral to a musculoskeletal clinic. They can normally see whether you have a tear, or dysplasia, or bursitis from x-ray or MRI.
The first course of treatment is usually physio, and if that doesn’t help then a steroid injection either into the hip or the sacroiliac joint can give short term relief and be used to diagnose the exact source of the pain.
I had to push my GP hard to refer me, he was very dismissive and put it down to ageing/arthritis.

I had deep aching in my hips and knees for about a week before I got a positive pcr for Covid. Four days in to isolation the pain just disappeared. Very strange

I had similar years ago, I had an anteverted SI joint in one side. A physio worked miracles and kind of pushed at it and also tugged my leg about a lot. Gave me a load of exercises to do to build my glute strength up.

I'm not a physio but that does sound very typical of a labral tear. They're pretty common, unfortunately.

Push your GP for a referral to MSK clinic. The physio will tell you to stop crossing your legs! I didn't realise how much I did it until I couldn'tSad

Random lurker here.
@Helenahandkart @Laserbird16 I can't thank you enough Thanks

I have had hip pain for 10 years now, and have seen GPs, physios, osteo, chiro, pelvic physio, sports rehab etc. to no avail.

Only through Mumsnet do I read about labral tears. Did a Google and I knew this was it. Just seen the specialist and yes: he reckons I have a labral tear.

I can hardly believe this can eventually be sorted.

@FuturePerfect I'm so glad you're on your way to getting the treatment you need Smile All the best with your recovery

I need a monthly deep massage of my neck, shoulders, upper back and hip/top of buttock area (sports massage) If I miss a month I really know about it.
I'd not heard about labial tear either. That's really interesting.
Sometimes MN is just fabulous!

FlySwatter · 11/01/2022 20:00

I swear I wrote labral.
I did, on rewriting my phone wanted labial Confused

Laserbird16 · 12/01/2022 10:29

Haha @FlySwatter that would be quite an injury!

Can you clarify if the pain is on the outside area of your hip..where the seam of your jeans is.. or in the actual bum cheek...
