Hi!
Happy new year to all !

My face has been in pain for months!!!! And ao have my teeth! My oral dr dowsnt think its trigeminal neuralgia!

I have that on sertraline. Been looking into Botox in the jaw, which apparently helps. It's so annoying, and I think it's starting to mess up my teeth too.

FelicityElectricity · 01/01/2022 11:04

There are specialist physiotherapists who treat TMJ pain if you weren't already aware of them? Might be worth trying if you haven't done so already. If you want to find one try looking on the CSP website or

www.acptmd.co.uk/find-your-nearest-tmd-specialist/

Good luck ☺️

Starrr123 · 01/01/2022 11:14

@tintodeverano2 the amatriptyline is meant to help! Im on day 6!
Sertaline is meant to cause clenching ! And citalopram! Thats why I refused to take
It.
My oral dr said i could hve botox but he doesn’t recommend it. But im so over the pain :( where do you feel the pain too? Xx

@FelicityElectricity whenever i see an osteopath who working on my tmj it feels better! But then i guess im clenching again at night! I dont know how to bread that cycle :( xx

FelicityElectricity · 01/01/2022 11:21

It may be worth trying a physio? I am a physio but I'm not an expert in this area but sometimes other treatment approaches may work better than others? It may be that the osteopath is able to release it but you may need exercises to maintain the stability around the joint to prevent reoccurrence. From the little knowledge I have it sometimes needs work to strengthen the opposite side. I hope you find something that helps!

Starrr123 · 01/01/2022 14:14

@FelicityElectricity thankyou for your help :)
My neck is very achey and sore! Everytime ive been checkrd they say i have awful tension! Xx

Look at relaxation techniques to stop the clenching.

(You don't need to use an exclamation mark at the end of every sentence.)

chillydownwiththefiregang · 01/01/2022 16:17

It can take a while to start working.

cushioncovers · 01/01/2022 16:21

Sertraline does cause clenching but only for a week or so as it's a side effect, it quickly disappears.

Starrr123 · 01/01/2022 17:16

@CorrBlimeyGG who are you saying that too? Whats does it matter to you?

OP posts:
Starrr123 · 01/01/2022 17:16

@chillydownwiththefiregang is that the amatriptyline? X

Are you stressed? I had it for several months when I was going through a really stressful time. My physio asked about stress and I didn't make the connection. When the stress had passed, the problem went too.

Starrr123 · 01/01/2022 20:02

@Astitichintimesaveswine i am always stressed atm! I suffer but wirh anxiety ever since being pregnant! My baby is now 7months old! Was it painful? Xx

I tried amitryptaline and it didn't help. Only two things did : chiropractic treatment including acupuncture, and getting a mouth guard for nights which means you can't grind your teeth together. I got mine from a specialist orthodontist. If you're in the south west I can recommend mine. I was in agony for 6 years and now I'm generally much much better.

tinselvestsparklepants · 01/01/2022 20:11

The other thing I do (and have since not being able to go to the Chiro because of Covid) is the yoga sequence 'yoga for writers' by Adrienne on YouTube - it's for neck and shoulders and it really helps with the neck tension. If I don't do it for a few days I can really feel it.

Starrr123 · 01/01/2022 20:33

@tinselvestsparklepants im in cornwall!!
I tried 3 round of acupuncture didnt do much at all. How long did you try it before you saw benefits? I had a night guard made but doesnt seem to help . How long was you on the amatriptyline too?
My teeth and face hurts :(
If you could let me know who you see that would be lovely :)
I should try yoga, i dont do much exercise as i used to x

It was very achey and tingly. I also couldn't open my mouth fully and that was painful.

tinselvestsparklepants · 01/01/2022 21:45

Will dm you if I can work out how!
