Hell I am crying

I had 2 root canals re-done on Monday

& my front crown fell out today (well about 3 minutes ago)

Dentist is open for emergencies on Monday

Can I get it fixed now please if so how?

Phone your dentist. He should have an out of hours contact who can advise you. Take some painkillers in the meantime.

POOKAingwenceslaslookedout · 21/12/2007 19:33

Oh Lord, Katymac. You're having rotten rotten luck at the moment. Hope you manage to get an out of hours/emergency dentist appointment.

Katymac · 21/12/2007 19:39

I hope I do too

I cannot find an emergency dentist - my dentist has an message saying they are open for emergencies on Monday

I cannot stay like this until then

I just phoned NHS direct & apparently it isn't an emergency

Well it is to me

Should be able to get it cemented back in temporarily - mine was by an 'emergency NHS' dentist (2 weeks after it fell out - I looked like an old hag )

heronsfly · 21/12/2007 19:43

You can buy crown adhesive in most chemists and supermarkets, not wonderful but will hold it in untill you can see a dentist.dont try super glue ive tried and it dosent work.

Katymac · 21/12/2007 19:45

I tried that when I was in France & it fell out

It lasted about an hour

I am crying - bang goes my weekend - I cannot go out like this

There must be an emergency dentist in the area. Often practices club together and take it in turn to be open to emergencys.

It may be worth calling other surgeries in your area and seeing if they leave a phone number for an out of hours dentist. If you call them, they may well see you.

Are you in pain? If so, if you don't have any luck finding a dentist, go to A&E.

Good luck xx

Ledodgy · 21/12/2007 19:47

Ring NHS direct back they tried to fob me off a few weeks ago demand an appointment with an out of hours dentist ours is in the walk in clinic until about 9.30 pm. If they can't see you tonight they should deffo see you tommorrow. Cry on the phone if necessary!

LIZS · 21/12/2007 19:50

is it actually painful or cosmetic though ? I'm not sure it would be classified as an out of hours type emergency. You could try a few private dentists in the morning and see if they could fit you in ?

Katymac · 21/12/2007 19:51

It is only cosmetic

I feel awful - quite sick - I hate dentists

I rang another number & got 4 dentists open tomorrow - all of them only have obile phone numbers - which worries me somehow

OP posts:
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/12/2007 20:06

Don't be worried. They give mobile numbers as the only people at the surgeries are the dentists, so the dentist will speak to you to find out what the problem is and they will arrange the appointment time.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/12/2007 20:07

Oh, and meant to say, I hope this is making you feel a wee bit better. Or do you need me to still pass you some tissues?!

Katymac · 21/12/2007 20:11

I still need the tissues

Sorry to be a wuss

Here you go, a nice box of kleenex with balm on to stop you getting a crusty nose.

Give yourself a slap round the chops, and tell yourself that facing the fear of the dentist is better than walking around with a missing crown and not being able to smile over the xmas period!

Katymac · 21/12/2007 20:26

I had a lovely day planned tomorrow

DH & I were having a lie in then going to collect DD from my Mum's at about 10.30, then off to Southwold to wander around the shops have a meal out then home to watch a DVD in front of the fire

Bugger

OP posts:
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/12/2007 20:29

Well, you never know you may get an appointment at a half decent time

Hopefully you will still get to enjoy Southwold, and if you do take a turn along the pier for me!

Katymac · 21/12/2007 20:57

They are all miles away & don't open until 10 - so I think my day trip is off

I don't think there is much point going on Sunday - I think shops will be closed

It's all a bit of a shame really

OP posts:
Katymac · 21/12/2007 21:32

It feels very very odd

OP posts:
Katymac · 21/12/2007 23:46

Still feeling horrendously miserable - a perfect end to a crappy year

OP posts:
Katymac · 22/12/2007 09:42

DH has bought me the adhesive stuff to fix it

it says "if crown has a post attached to it or if there is tooth structure remaining in the crown, cement may not adhere"

Most of my crwon appears to be post - does this mean it won't work?

OP posts:
heronsfly · 22/12/2007 10:01

If the post is still in your gum it will stick,if the post has come out as well there may not be anything to stick it too,but you could try attaching to teeth either side,i really feel for you have been through this more than once, when you speak to dentist lie,say it really hurts

Katymac · 22/12/2007 10:04

There is a whole in my gum & a post in my tooth

Does that make a difference?

OP posts:
heronsfly · 22/12/2007 10:11

I think that means the whole fitting has come out and may need to be replaced I was able to insert post back into gum and cover with adhesive {couldent eat but could smile] but sure this would not be recommended in case of infection, have you tried your local hospital most of them have weekend dental cover units .

Katymac · 22/12/2007 10:21

So I have stuck it in

I rang the dental hosp sept - who can't see me

But the nice lady talked me through it

it's in

the stuff in the dish isn't solid yet - so I'm not letting go
