@Paulina18

Hello everyone

All seems to be good with operation .
Very quick , only 15 mins this time , about 25 first one .
Now recovery and lots of eyedrops .
Thankyou everyone for your support and good luck with people having cataract operations soon .
Don’t worry as it’s so quick , pain free and just like watching a light show 🥰❤️🌹💕❤️🌹💕xx

Glad things went well. Hoping for the same for me.

I only had 6 days notice of the op as I took a cancellation.

Paulina18 · 12/02/2022 21:23

It’s so quick and great end results 🥰
No pain
Mine were both like a light show .
Actually quite relaxing , the theatre bed was so comfortable with relaxing music

Good luck .

My eye from second was was so clear in 24 hours , it’s amazing , really life changing 😋

I arrived at 7.20am and the place was buzzing. The consultant who had space for me was lovely. The first person to go went at 8.15 and was on his way home by 9.05am.

I didn't get taken up until 10.25. Was back on the ward at 11.45. They had a bit of an issue with the bag or something. They said my cataract was unusual. But they said it came out well. The theatre staff were fabulous as I was shaking. They really kept me calm.

Think I'll do sedation if I need the other one done.

Eye feels a bit gritty and it's been weeping down my cheek. Fingers crossed for a good outcome tomorrow when I take the shield off.

Paulina18 · 14/02/2022 21:24

So pleased all went well .
You might find in 24 hours very often everything becomes very clear .
I could read tiny print on tv without glasses very quickly .

Grittiness and weeping is normal . Was she eye , closed , with clean cotton pad and warm boiled water very gently from inside out .

Your drops will help grittiness and itching.
When you feel this keep occupied with something and it goes away . Don’t rub .
All eases in a few days 😊🌹

I'm just waiting on my water cooling then will clean it and start the drops.

I'm off work next week as I work in a nursery so it's a safety aspect.

Paulina18 · 15/02/2022 08:16

I think it’s good to rest up and just look after your eye .
🥰

Wow, I have vision. It feels so odd.

Paulina18 · 15/02/2022 08:55

I felt a little heady , giddy and nauseous after first operation , it came on 2 days after operation and lasted about 5 days .

This time I feel ok but taking it easy fir the week .

You might experience some symptoms .

I'm on total rest. Dh is doing most things. Ds is off college so he's cooking.

Just going to chill x

Paulina18 · 15/02/2022 12:53

Excellent plan 😊👍

Groovee · 18/02/2022 12:42

My eye has been very twitchy. Presuming that's normal?

Paulina18 · 18/02/2022 15:30

I havant experienced eye twitching but can be caused after cataract surgery due to
Dry eye ( ensure not to forget your prescribed eye drops during the day as prescribed)

Tired eye after surgery

I can phone my surgeons PA at any time during recovery for advise , can you do same if you are concerned ?
If not PA then maybe qualified staff at your eye unit to give you advise / correct reason just as a piece of mind .
🥰

How are you doing ?

OP posts:
Groovee · 22/02/2022 21:33

I'm doing ok. We realised that the pollen from the flowers people gifted me were causing issues. So sorted that out and things have been much easier. Have finished with the antibiotic drops now so just the steroid ones to take now.

Thinking about being back at work next week as I am bored.

Paulina18 · 22/02/2022 22:35

Glad you are on the mend 😋

It can get very tedious stuck indoors .
I’m just starting to venture out and driving short distances .
I’ve been in lockdown since Christmas with the 2 operations and slight delay due to surgeon having covid .

Looking forward to normality now .

It was all worth it 😋c

After talks with my boss and team, the GP has signed me off for another 2 weeks.

I've developed an allergy to flowers though. My eye really twitches and itches.

Paulina18 · 26/02/2022 22:19

Something you could do with out .
Especially after cataract operation.
I hope it settles down soon .

I had my first cataract op just before the first lockdown in 2020, my vision was pretty bad, -10. I also have glaucoma so I had to have it done at our big hospital.
The op was painless, a series of numbing eye drops before hand then two injections in my eye. My face was complete numb on the left side.
It took about 30 minutes.
The difference when the eye patch came off was amazing…HD had nothing on me.
The second op should have happened six weeks after but due to COVID rules it didn’t happen until Nov. 2020, by this time my right eye was totally obscured by the cataract, it had toughened up which caused an increase in the pressure in that eye.
This time the operation took almost an hour, the surgeon kept asking for ‘more drops, more drops’ I’ve since found the drops were viscous cushioning drops to protect my eye from the procedure.
The consultant told me it was ‘Challenging’, he knew it was going to be hence why I was last on his list for that day. And the increased waiting time hadn’t helped.
This time it took about a week for my vision to clear, and my brain had to adjust to the difference, I needed several eye tests afterwards, however it’s totally fine now.
My vision is -1.50 in the left and -1.75 in the right. So from wearing thick thinner lenses I’ve gone to really lightweight ones. I have to check to see if I’ve put them on as they are so light.
One downside is I’ve noticed eye make up irritates now…bit of a bind now that I can actually see to apply it, I can’t wear it.

Groovee · 03/03/2022 15:07

I'm doing ok here. Got my follow up on the 26th. Can really see how my eyes are adjusting to each other now. It feels odd to be able to read the bus numbers, read the tv without glasses.

Hoping to be back to work on the 14th.

Thinkingblonde · 03/03/2022 17:57

That’s good to hear.

Paulina18 · 08/03/2022 22:28

Today I had my follow up examination with my surgeon.

He told me I now have 20/20 vision and all is healing very well .
I won’t need to see him anymore .

I’m so happy I had it done and the end result is amazing .
Worth every Penny and very little discomfort .

Although it made me anxious prior to
Operations there really was nothing to fear .
Very quick , pain free and glasses free . ( apart from readers for very tiny print )

😋

Great news x

Paulina18 · 10/03/2022 22:39

My cataracts were not advanced but I did experience same as you with night driving and any bright light .

I went private and my surgeon did explain risks but said people are now getting rid of them early so they don’t experience
the issues that can effect you eventually

I’m so glad I had it done
I now have 20/20 vision

great update, I really, really want to have mined done.

Are there risks involved with getting them done before the cataracts have fully developed? or is it the normal risk with having the lens replaced.

Paulina18 · 17/03/2022 16:59

The risks are there regardless .
If your cataracts are so bad that they effect your everyday life then you have nothing much to loose but if they are not so advanced and controlled with glasses you do .
My thoughts were that they will probably only get worse and getting great eyesight when I’m very old would be lovely but I preferred to have it now I’m younger .
If they get bad and you have additional health issues with age they might not operate anyway .
It seems a personal choice these days if you have good health and can afford to pay private .
