Lifesforloving1 · 04/12/2021 21:13

I drink quite a lot of water - around 4-5 bottles a day. Doctor said this was fine and good to do.
I find myself constantly needing to wee - every 20 mins or so…..
Does anyone else have this problem ? My partner said it’s not normal ? Maby pelvic floor exercises would help ?

How many litres are the bottles?

rainbowninja · 04/12/2021 22:23

Hmmm..kegels might help? Do you feel thirsty?

NanTheWiser · 04/12/2021 22:39

Have you been tested for diabetes? Excess thirst and urinating are common symptoms.

TheCreamCaker · 04/12/2021 22:39

You're drinking too much, simple as that. I had the same problem, and got referred to a Urologist. He told me that 8 wees a day is the normal amount (I was weeing 30 a day, sometimes more) and I'd been drinking about 7pts a day. He told me to cut it to 2 pints (a litre) a day. I found that really very difficult to begin with, but it's fine now. I also cut out all caffeine, so tea is fruit/herb/decaffeinated, and decaf coffee.

Lifesforloving1 · 04/12/2021 22:40

@ILoveAllRainbowsx
500ml ones . I have 4 a day.

@rainbowninjaNo … I don’t thirsty. I just drink lots to help headaches . But it also makes me see a lot too.

Every 20 mins is really excessive and must completely limit your life.
I need to go every couple of hours and that is restrictive enough.

Elieza · 04/12/2021 22:42

We are supposed to drink 1.5 to 2 litres a day of still water. More if sweating and exercising hard etc.

How much are you drinking? If you’re chugging it back you will need to go more frequently. If you span out 1.5 lites across the day I think I go to the loo about every 45-50 mins approx. I stop at 8pm or I’ll be up during the night!

PragmaticWench · 04/12/2021 22:45

I think needing to urinate more than once every two to three hours is excessive.

Chunkymenrock · 04/12/2021 22:50

How old are you? Peri menopause can make you need to urinate more.

Lifesforloving1 · 04/12/2021 22:57

@Elieza
I think that’s the problem ? Sometimes I do chug it back to get it down fast and get on … however this doesn't always go to plan when I’m dashing to the toilet …. Maby I’ll spread it out then ?
Thanks xx

Every 20 minutes us definitely too often even if you are drinking a lot. Every 2-3 hours is a more normal frequency. Does that mean you can’t even sit through a TV programme if there isn’t an advert break? How do you cope at work or on car journeys? How much are you actually passing each time you urinate? Presumably you’re not waiting until you have a full bladder. It seems possible by going so regularly your bladder is sending you signals that you need to go to the toilet before it’s full, I would stop going to the toilet everyone you get an urge and start trying to hold on for longer to increase your bladder capacity.

tearinghairout · 04/12/2021 23:01

It sounds like you should cut back a bit and sip rather than glug. It's really hard to generalise about what's 'normal'. I have two friends the same age as me (62) who could easily go most of the day without peeing if they had to, but for me it's every hour or so, and I always have gone more than my friends, since childhood. Maybe some of us just have very small bladders? But I also find that if I'm at home I tend to forget about needing to go, but if I'm out and about I'm worrying about where the loo is and do need to go. So it's linked with anxiety.

tearinghairout · 04/12/2021 23:03

Also, if you hold the water in your mouth before swallowing, it goes through your tissues and eases your thirst, rather than straight down to your stomach, and out.

ClaudiusTheGod · 04/12/2021 23:23

Eh? This is garbage

Lol this is complete bullshit

Op I had to measure input and output, double output or over is a problem. Mine's steroid related but I also have diabetes insipidus which causes high urine output

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 05/12/2021 00:39

That’s a perfectly normal amount of water, and you shouldn’t be seeing anything like that much. Sounds like you have got into the habit. Perhaps ask for a referral to a woman’s physio?

Elieza · 05/12/2021 12:35

Get a 1.5 litre bottle, either a bpe free one from a shop (some have the hours of the day marked on them) and put tap water in it, or buy a bottle of still mineral water.

Evian is good as the bottle is horizontally ribbed. I can easily work out how much i need to have drunk by morning tea break (top of the label) lunchtime (one rib below the label), afternoon tea break, (these bits are rubbed) dinner time, by 8pm etc.

That way you won’t chug it. Try that for a couple of days and see how you get on.

We should be moving about once an hour so I find that drinking it evenly spread out across the day let’s me go to the loo once an hour, which ties in with my Fitbit demanding 250 steps from me)!

I drink tea and coffee in addition to the bottle so I can be at the loo twice in an hour when I do so.

It’s good to get toxins peed out regularly.

Biglumpycustard · 05/12/2021 13:41

I’m the same, drinking a lot of water.

rainbowninja · 05/12/2021 15:25

Hi @Lifesforloving1

I'm wondering what's causing the headaches? How often do you get them? Maybe getting to the route of that would help 🤔

Lifesforloving1 · 05/12/2021 16:01

@Biglumpycustard Oh really ? Maby it’s normal for some people to wee quite a lot ? I’m
Going to try and do some pelvic floor exercises…. And not gulp it all at one…

@rainbowninja
I’ve always had headaches on and off….I’ve looked into them and all I’s fine.

No we are not.

It can be any kind of fluid including juice, tea, coffee, fizzy water, milk, soup etc. Doesn't have to be still water at all.

Elieza · 05/12/2021 17:57

@BeaMends
I wouldn’t suggest that drinking 2 litres a day of coke is going to be good for anyone, so I disagree!

Our bodies are made up of a lot of water. Fluids are more easily processed if it is still water.

Our bodies don’t want to have to process phenylalanine etc and need to work harder to process carbonated drinks. If we don’t have enough calcium then i understand that the body strips it from your bones in order to process the fizz. Feel free to google and correct me if I’m wrong. But that scares the living shit out of me. Especially as I’m “of an age” and worry about bone density.

2litres of coffee a day would be bad for your adrenal system.

I don’t imagine you mean that though, you probably mean a few coffees, some cola, a bowl of soup etc as long as the totals rack up.

But best thing is water. Yes in theory you can drink other fluids to make up the total amount but if you want to give your body what it needs as opposed to what you fancy, water is the thing to drink more of. Not too much though as your kidneys need to process it!

I’m trying to keep well hydrated as it keeps the blood thin and you don’t want thick blood with covid (and vaccinations) around due to the risk of clots.

So if you want the best for your body drink water.

BeaMends · 05/12/2021 21:17

@Elieza Drinking only cola or only coffee and nothing else was not what I was suggesting, and you know it.

Where on earth did you get the idea that drinking a lot of water thins your blood and helps prevent blood clots caused by covid vaccinations? Wherever that information came from, rest assured it is completely untrue.

If anyone needs some proper advice then I would suggest they follow the official NHS website guidelines on how much and what to drink (which is what I read before I posted). There is also considerable information on ways to help prevent blood clots.

Incidentally, drinking too much water is not good for you.

Elieza · 05/12/2021 23:12

@BeaMends
If you google ‘drinking water thins blood’ this comes up:

“ Blood volume
Just like most liquids, water can dilute blood. Staying hydrated and drinking plenty of water helps to keep the viscosity of the blood low. If the blood is very viscous then this is a strong predictor of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and blood clots.”

We know that blood clots are associated with covid / covid vaccinations so keeping well hydrated seems reasonable to help our bodies at this stressful time.

As well as getting vaccinated and following covid guidelines obviously.

I am not in any way trying to encourage anyone to go rogue. Just to steer away from fizzy drinks, alcohol and coffee etc in favour of water.

Regarding amounts of water, I know too much is bad for you. if you read my post I said “ Not too much though as your kidneys need to process it!”

rainbowninja · 06/12/2021 11:38

@Lifesforloving1 I was wondering if you had a food sensitivity or hormonal imbalance that could be causing headaches, might be worth looking into.
