Mammoth verruca?

WobblyLondoner · 26/11/2021 21:07

My son has just shown me this in the sole of his foot. It's a huge nest of verrucas isn't it? Any recommendations as to what we should do?

I feel very bad it's got so large without me noticing it. I tend not to spend much time near DS feet and he's not mentioned it before now. He says it does not hurt but when pressed says it is sometimes uncomfortable when he is walking ...

Ouch! My mum lets me cut her verrucas out with a pair of nail scissors but I don't think I'd recommend that method for such a big cluster 😱

I've heard you can get them to drop off with duck tape?

Nameswaptime · 26/11/2021 21:13

I have successfully taped banana skin on to verrucas, but never as many as that. It took about a month for the verruca to fall away and it was totally painless.

Good god!

I’d take him to the doctors for that one. You don’t want to be responsible for yanking that beauty out. Imagine the hole it would leave behind!

GherkinsOnToast · 26/11/2021 21:15

We took DD1's giant verucca to the podiatrist and they treated it with microwaves - 4 treatments and they all just fell out of her foot. we had tried every other medical and folk lore remedy.

ChatterMonkey · 26/11/2021 21:15

I had a similar big cluster when i was in my early 20s. Tried home remedies, regular gp appointments for proper freezing treatments, but it was such a big cluster that nothing was getting to the proper root/core of it so it kept on growing back.

I had it for a good few years, and then one day noticed that it was gone! It was never overly uncomfortable as it was on the sole so the skin was a bit harder. Similar sort of place as your ds.

So unfortunately not much help in the fact that none of the numerous treatments worked, but positive in the sense that it went away on its own...!

Evenstar · 26/11/2021 21:17

I had one like that and paid for it to be treated by a chiropodist, he said it was actually a lot of separate small veruccas and not something I could have treated at home. I had them frozen and cut away about 3 times before they went.

My dC had a cluster, tried all sorts of potions and freezing but it was silver nitrate pen and filing that got rid of it

Unfortunately a lot of GPs won’t treat them now and you may need to find a podiatrist

Please at least take him to the GP, or contact GP (at our surgery you can just go online send a message and attach a photo) and then at least it'll be registered.

Wow, thanks for such quick responses. Really helpful.

My son had something similar and we used Thuja - herbal/homeopathic stuff - I wasn't hopeful, but it cleared the whole thing up. Also used it to treat DD's warts on her hands - nothing left at all! Was very skeptical- but an absolute covert to it now. We got it in Holland and Barret.

Santaischeckinglists · 26/11/2021 21:33

I picked mine out with a compass as a teen!!
Used the proper stuff for ds. Took 9 months to get rid of 1!!

mybroomstick · 26/11/2021 21:35

I had a huge one for 8 years, tried everything medical and woo, and in the end it was a scholl pen that got rid of it. I used it daily for about a month and it disappeared.

Not even a mark there, and it was nearly 1cm across.

Lemonjiffy · 26/11/2021 21:36

I would go straight to a private podiatry clinic for that. Your poor dad, looks sore.

Lemonjiffy · 26/11/2021 21:36

Ds

Thefuturestory · 26/11/2021 21:37

Are those back spots away from it also veruccas? I would do duct tape til you can get a podarist

Tempusfudgeit · 26/11/2021 21:39

I recommend you post this in Sporner Corner - they'll love it!

Is thuja a cream or tablets? Thx Smile

Why?
Ragtaggirl · 26/11/2021 21:50

You need to get the immune system to respond to it ideally. Take zinc. Buy duofilm over the counter at the chemist. Don't follow the instructions. Instead paint over the verucca cluster every day. Don't peel the duofilm off, just keep painting a daily layer over the days before layer. Eventually you ll suffocate the verucca cluster and it ll die.

Ragtaggirl · 26/11/2021 21:51

Putting the duofilm on at night before bed and letting it dry is a good time to do it.

This is classic mumsnet…

Sadly I don’t think there is a national verruca register PP. Grin

Wrap the foot in duct tape, change it every evening and put new on. I did this on one is had for several years and amazingly it went after two weeks.

blitzen · 26/11/2021 22:13

I had one like that in my teens. Chiropodist said they could slice some off the top, paint some stuff on and it wouldn't get any bigger. But I took matters into my own hands. Every couple of days I would cut some of it out with the sharpest possible nail scissors, then I would cover it over with bazooka and repeat the cycle til it was gone. Hugely satisfying.

UnimpressiveUsername · 26/11/2021 22:14

Nail varnish. I also had a load of verrucas on my foot for years - tried everything to get rid of them. A nurse recommended painting them with nail varnish to “starve them of oxygen”. Wasn’t convinced, but figured it was worth a shot and it would act as a good barrier to prevent passing them on. One by one they all went in a matter of weeks. Good luck!
