Thinking of going private

Hi everyone, this has been going on since august now, I have symptoms of near fainting, head rush and palpitations.
The near fainting episodes are so intense and feels like I have a 'head rush' also every single day without fail.
I had a 24 hour holter monitor recently to check it's not to do with my heart and today I called them and they said they have sent the results to the doctor and told me that they couldn't tell me the results but she can say that if they were concerned they would have called me sooner (not sure if that was her hint that it's fine or not) anyway, I'm very very ready to pay privately now, doctor said if ecg comes normal I will be referred to cardio which could take a year as I am very aware there is a long waiting list, doctor can't do anything regarding my symptoms because they don't know what's causing it, does anyone on here have any knowledge of the symptoms I said I have or who I should refer to? As in which department? I'm not sure where to start as I don't even know what's causing it, I have a gut feeling it's blood pressure that's causing this but docs tell me I need to be referred for a TTT for that. Anyways, I don't know, I'm not a professional I just want a bit of advice is all!

I'm going through similar. I have exactly what you describe; the head rush, I also have really bad dizzy episodes. I've just returned my 72 hour monitor and waiting for results. I'm 34. Mine started about 6 months ago.

Sorry to hear you're going through the same thing:( it's awful, are your symptoms every day too? Did you go private? What are they suspecting with your symptoms?

You can buy a BP monitor and check your BP yourself at home

Have you looked into Postural tachycardia syndrome?

Ginfilledcats · 09/11/2021 19:20

I had very similar symptoms from about 29, have had multiple 24-72 hour tapes, echo, ecg. Turned out, it was a physical manifestation of anxiety. Symptoms pretty much non existent these days now I better manage my anxiety.

worth a consideration as I never ever thought it would be anxiety; I didn't feel anxious. Until about 8 years later when I had a full blown anxiety attack out of no where. Have had counselling and manage it now and never really had an ussue unless anxious!

Appreciate that's just me and there well may be other things going on.

You can direct refer yourself to cardiology with those symptoms to any private hospital with a cardiology team- just ring or email them. Google local bupa spire and Ramsay hospitals. You may well need to do all the tests again at your own cost though so be prepared.

Best of luck!

Oh - I'm 31 now!

Yes, it's a possibility but from my Fitbit I do not have that 30bpm increase so I doubt it is that

Hi, I have had anxiety since I was a child and I've never experienced anything like this before, it happens when I'm at work it happens when I'm walking outside it happens all the time so I truly doubt it is anxiety, even when I'm not thinking of anything just relaxed it happens

That's interesting I was exactly the same, which is why I was like it's never anxiety!

The other department to consider referring to is endocrinology in case there's something hormonal going to!

Really hope you get an answer soon! X

TiddleTaddleTat · 09/11/2021 19:23

I have pots - diagnosed via Nhs specialist cardiology dept. Very similar symptoms. You say your Fitbit doesn't show a 30bpm increase, is that from lying to standing (and not moving at all?) fitbits are not terrible accurate anyway.
PPs point about anemia is also a good one. Iron deficiency could be the culprit and very common. Have you had a full blood panel by GP that includes ferritin and have you seen / got a copy of these numbers? Can be requested by email.

I mean, I was on sertraline recently and then Prozac because sertraline wasn't working for me, because of my symptoms they weren't happy keeping me on ssris but whilst I was on them I was still getting symptoms and to be honest, I haven't got much to be anxious about! I have my dream job, I have a wonderful family im very happy, the only reason I have anxiety is because my dad died when I was a child and the trauma of what I saw during his terminal illness stuck with me, I don't have any panic disorder or anything like that, just loss of dad anxiety I guess.

Yes I was told by cardiac nurse who I saw when I went to get my holter monitor (I felt crazy faint) they did tell me pots could be the culprit as everything I was telling them pointed to it

Yes I have had bloods done, all normal except a slightly elevated thyroid level - routine bloods in three months time for that and said it wouldn't be causing my symptoms

@Anonymousxo I have symptoms daily, some days worse than others. GP has referred to cardiology and I've already had an echo, mri scan which was normal and now waiting for holter monitor results. Gp has now started to say she thinks it May be anxiety and after reading @Ginfilledcats it has made me think may be that could. E contributing. I've always suffered with anxiety and more so the past year.

TiddleTaddleTat · 09/11/2021 20:59

Have you actually seen your blood results though?

That's the first thing I'd do, before spending any money on private consultants. Just email your gp and ask for a copy of your latest blood results. If ferritin is under about 50, get onto the Iron Protocol group on Facebook and learn about iron deficiency .

Btw if you suspect PoTS it's worth checking out the PotsUK website which has a list of departments that specialise. There are few private specialists in this area most do their TTT with the NHS. As I understand it you can request to be seen by any Nhs cardiologist so worth checking where your closest specialist would be and requesting. Of course it might be something else though but sounds like you've had the main investigations done already.

So I've only had a holter monitor, doctor hasn't informed me of the results yet but I only had it last week...however results are ready I assume doctor will contact me but she did say if ecg is normal she will refer to cardio to check for blood pressure issues or POTs

That's good. Sounds like you're on the right track .
I'd still look into ferritin though, so many premenopausal women are deficient and symptoms are wide ranging

Hi everyone, just got my results back - my holter monitor came back normal and abnormal points during the monitor, I'm being referred to cardiology... I knew it wasn't anxiety but just incase anyone is having investigations and is having my symptoms, I'm now being referred to cardio for investigation.

Who did you get results from, was it gp? And how long did you wait?
I'm waiting for my results it's been 2 weeks and not heard anything
