Help! Racing heart and other weirdness

ohIdoliketobebesidethesea · 04/11/2021 06:46

Sorry posting here for traffic.

I was just sat down with my two Young DC's, haven't done much this morning as I don't feel very well (sinus issues) so no major moving around or anything. My heart just suddenly started racing, chest went really tight and uncomfortable like I couldn't take a deep breath without being uncomfortable, and my head went all fuzzy like I couldn't focus my eyes properly and it felt like all the blood had rushed to my head. Lasted for about half an hour and still don't feel 100% better now as my chest still feels uncomfortable.
Anyone ever had this or know what it could be??

How old are you ?
Sound like a virus to me. Paracetamol, fluids and rest. Might be worth doing an LFT if you’ve got one too.

It could be lots of things and I'd call either my GP or even 111 to ask advice. While it most likely is a virus, or even a bad deficiency in Vitamin D, things like heart attack or TIA can present in funny ways. I had a stroke this year that I wrote off as a dizzy spell for a few days before seeking help. Please don't ignore it

ToCutALongStoryShort · 04/11/2021 06:58

I would speak to someone, consuder going to A and E. Any chest pain should not be ignored, you may need an ECG. It may be a virus but best to get checked out. The sudden heart racing is a worry.

GoodnightGrandma · 04/11/2021 07:00

Is there any chance you could be anaemic, heavy periods etc ?
Anaemia can give some of the symptoms you describe.

Not that I know of, although I don't have periods normally due to my pcos so it's hard to tell

Sounds like a virus or low iron to me. But as we're not drs if your worried speak to your gp op xx

Katkincake · 04/11/2021 07:05

I have a condition called supraventricular tachycardia which sounds very similar. I’ve had it for years though. Either way I’d contact your GP.

BirdLover · 04/11/2021 08:01

I have a condition called Atrial Fibrillation (AF) which has fairly similar symptoms to what you've described and is fairly common (approx. 1 in 50 people under 65 have it).

Definitely worth booking a check-up with your GP to find out what's happening and put your mind at rest.

DorisFlies · 04/11/2021 14:19

Thyroid issues can also cause this - you need proper medical advice

PurpleDaisies · 04/11/2021 14:24

You had chest pain which hasn’t fully gone away and posters are telling you to take paracetamol and do an lft?

Op you really need to seen proper real life medical advice about this. Call your gp or 111.

nameyouwhat · 04/11/2021 14:24

This could be a panic attack...They sound very very similar to what I used to experience. They can come out of the blue just like you describe. of course go see a GP though

Obsidiansphere · 04/11/2021 14:31

Low vitamin B12 and iron made me feel like this (but I do have other health conditions) so get in touch with your GP and let them know.

SweetMaryHell · 04/11/2021 15:09

Panic attack
Low iron / B12
Virus

However chest pain and racing heart suggests an ambulance

MichaelMumsnet · 04/11/2021 15:45

Hi all. We've moved this one out of AIBU and over to General health - where there's a disclaimer at the top of every page:

Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. If you have medical concerns, please seek medical attention; if you think your problem could be acute, do so immediately. Even qualified doctors can't diagnose over the internet, so do bear that in mind when seeking or giving advice.

ohIdoliketobebesidethesea · 04/11/2021 16:38

Just to update, I spoke to a gp who phoned an ambulance, they then said I needed to be taken to hospital. Spent the day here having X-ray, bloods and ecg. Seen a consultant and they said it's probably angina caused by me not being very well. Thanks for all the advice

Good job you phoned your gp op xx

Dutch1e · 04/11/2021 17:17

Thank you for the update, I'm so glad your GP didn't mess around!

ToCutALongStoryShort · 04/11/2021 17:51

@ohIdoliketobebesidethesea glad you are getting treated, glad you sought help. Get well soon Flowers.

Bunnyfuller · 05/11/2021 00:17

I was going to say it sounded like angina….well done on getting checked.

I had this for 4 days, ending with a heart attack.

SweetMaryHell · 05/11/2021 05:57

How’s it going OP?

wobblywinelover · 06/11/2021 03:39

I hope you are okay now OP but posting stuff about cardiac symptoms will be impossible (and downright dangerous) for people to be answering over the internet. If you don't feel comfortable talking to someone face to face in the future there is always the option to go online and type to someone via 111 who you can explain your symptoms to. Hope you are feeling better now and it was nothing serious

Robgem81 · 09/11/2021 17:48

Bless you! Scary stuff. My Heart started racing away on Sunday. No chest pain but it was crazy fast. Spent a night in hospital. Think it's SVT. Always go straight for medical help over the internet, better to get the professionals looking after you. Hope you are doing better x

echt · 09/11/2021 21:59

Glad you went to the GP. Similar symptoms are why I went straight to A&E and am now in a cardiac unit while the professionals are scratching their heads about exactly what’s up with me.

All in agreement that chest pains = A&E.
