AIBU to HATE my hip dips (photo attached)

This is getting me really down now. I gave birth 20 months ago, and my hips dip in and then back out again at my thighs. It feels quite hard and think it’s my actual bone structure now since giving birth, they weren’t like this beforehand though! No exercise I do gets rid of them or improves them, nor any dietary changes. It looks absolutely awful in jeans, really squishy and unflattering regardless of the fact I am quite toned.

Did anyone else’s hips go like this after giving birth? Do they go back ever? (I am pregnant again - 6 weeks so I understand they’ll be changing again, I just thought by 20 months post partum my hips would have gone back to normalish).

Is this all in my head? I am wondering if it looks worse to me than to others. And I do realise this may seem really pedantic to people, however it is my personality. I’ve always worried over my body image especially as I’ve always worked so hard to have a good shape.

Its not just leggings. I've noticed it in dresses - they don't even have to be that form fitting for mine to show. I don't often wear them and it was so obvious thats when I started to get self conscious.

@mightbealittlebitmad

I have them too, always have and probably always will. I'm carrying a good stone of extra weight which I'm trying to shift.

I lift a lot of heavy weights, do a lot of squats but still have them, even at my smallest.

Every celebrity photos will have been photoshopped. This one isn't photo shopped but I'm still standing in a way to make myself look more flattering.

I'm trying to embrace the flabby bits and the cellulite but it's tough. Try to go easy on yourself, you have a really small child and are pregnant.

What? I honestly cannot see what is meant to be a 'fault' in your shape here. OK, if you're heavier than you want to be that's one thing, but what on earth is 'wrong' with the shape of your hips/thighs?
EdgeOfTheSky · 01/11/2021 16:27

Thanks to this thread I have checked in the mirror and look and behold, I have them too!

Ah well, I have managed a happy life in blissful ignorance so not going to start worrying now Grin

They're perfectly normal. Look at Nelly London in Instagram. She rocks hers.

JaneJeffer · 01/11/2021 17:29

Jesus what next?

I don't think I have any dresses tight enough that they would show. Or then maybe it's because I didn't know what they were until today. It's quite a privilege to have such a good figure that this is all OP has to worry about.

Jessica Alba, Miley Cyrus, literal supermodel Bella Hadid.

They all have hip dips.

They're normal. And human. You're okay.

They're sometimes more prominent in people who exercise a lot - an article I found says:

"You'll sometimes see hip dips in people who train a lot, as more muscle mass—or pronounced strength in certain muscles—can create more noticeable hip dips."

"Hip dips are sometimes known as "dancer’s dents," due to the serious amount of booty squeezing, hamstring, hip, and leg work dancers get through."

Thank you everyone.

I do know deep down a lot of it is down to me probably being extremely harsh on myself and obsessive. I just can’t help thinking about how horrible i look in jeans and a short top compared to how I used to.

I seem happy enough in other areas of my life, I don’t think I’m depressed or anything. I just can’t seem to get over this making me feel horrible about myself and wish I could.

I deleted the pic as I looked back and was really embarrassed of it.

Usually, if you focus on something small, and a bit random, like this, it is due to some general anxiety ;lack of control in your life? Control over the ageing process? Something else?

I get it sometimes about crêpey neck or saggy bum, but really it is about how quickly time passes and how I have no control over that …

Maybe that’s just me Grin

"I get it sometimes about crêpey neck or saggy bum"

I'd say these are more worthy of concern though. They're actually visible, well at least the neck is. (not that you should worry about it of course).

@Jobseeker19

Next time actually watch the video first instead of calling it shit.

She explains thats its normal and the different shapes that people have.

To be fair, she explains they are normal then still goes on to show ways to minimise the appearance, thus perpetuating the idea they are not desirable.
