BoysAreLikeReindeer · 02/12/2007 21:13

Oh dear, OJ. No idea what it could be. Bumping for you

LuckySalem · 02/12/2007 21:14

Sorry I don't have any ideas, could he possibly have pressure underneath the skin causing the bruise?

yurt1 · 02/12/2007 21:15

Oh OJ Call whoever it is you are meant to call. (out of ours doc?)

SquonkaClaus · 02/12/2007 21:15

no idea. Do you have a mac nurse that you can ring on a Sunday night?

Tovik · 02/12/2007 21:15

just googled it -- dark circles can be a result of histamine reactions thus possible allergy.

onlyjoking9329 · 02/12/2007 21:16

i am worried it might be internal bleeding which is common on chemo, but he's not had chemo for 3 weeks

Tovik · 02/12/2007 21:16

sorry just realised you are a long term poster and about steve. so i have no idea. sorry.

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 02/12/2007 21:17

I'd seek medical attention ASAP just to be on the safe side OJ xx

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 02/12/2007 21:17

sorry OJ, no ideas, but is there someone you can call?

StaryNightSky · 02/12/2007 21:17

Are they just dark circles or is the skin puffy kind of like a blister?

I don't want to comment until I know which it is becuase they mean very differnt things.

Other than that how are you all?

Nemo2007 · 02/12/2007 21:18

OJ I would contact mac nurses or nhs direct just to query it

onlyjoking9329 · 02/12/2007 21:18

i will be able to speak to the Macmillan nurse in the morning.

OP posts:
ComeOVeneer · 02/12/2007 21:19

It can associated with dilated blood vessels and build up of toxins under thin skin, or tiredness etc. But I would ask the opinion of professional support.

onlyjoking9329 · 02/12/2007 21:22

no not dark circles even just like a patch of black towards his nose, no swelling thou, don't want to ring doctors as they always want to send him into hospital and he wants to be at home, will phone the nurse in the morning

OP posts:
ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 02/12/2007 21:23

I have just asked a friend who works on oncology and she says that it could be a side effect of dexamethasone in which case this is how internal bleeding can manifest itself.

Bauble99 · 02/12/2007 21:24

OJ. Can you phone the ward where Steve had the chemo? Might set your mind at rest until you can talk to the Mac nurses in the morning?

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 02/12/2007 21:24

Sorry I hit send too quickly- she said the best thing you can do is to phone the ward and describe it to them and ask their advice but that her recommendation would be for you to get him checked out.

onlyjoking9329 · 02/12/2007 21:25

he is on 4mg of dexamethasone a day just gone down today from 6mg

OP posts:
StaryNightSky · 02/12/2007 21:26

Well in that case I suspect, that it is just (not being flipant) burst blood vessels.

You will need to be carefull tonight and watch for things like nose bleeds other patches of "brusing". If that does happen then I am affaird the best idea would be to call the doctor.

Sorry I dont mean to be blunt but sometimes it helps to know what to look out for. I'm sure youe DH is will be fine during the night but definately talk to the Mac nurse in the morning.

I was really hoping that you where going to say the skin was not blistered so I am really pleased.

Hope you have a good night and the mac nurse can check it over in the morning.

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 02/12/2007 21:26

OJ i would get it checked, don't leave it till the morning just in case.

StaryNightSky · 02/12/2007 21:27

If you can phone the ward, I would to be honest.

onlyjoking9329 · 02/12/2007 21:29

he seems no different to yesterday so i am hoping that tomorrow he will be without the bruising. he doesn't have a ward as he attended the oncology unit for his treatment and they are only open mon-fri 9-6

OP posts:
StaryNightSky · 02/12/2007 21:30

Then I would talk to the mac nurse in the morning.

I'm sorry you are having to go through this, its really tough.
