DP told me this morning that he hasn’t been feeling well for the last couple of days. I didn’t think anything of it, just thought it was football related alcohol catching up with him. Anyway he’s got worse throughout the day, he’s got stomach pain, fever and he’s been sick several times this evening. I don’t think it’s food poisoning as I’m fine so I’m assuming a stomach bug, but he never gets that type of illness and he’s not one to complain when he gets flu etc, he just powers on through, but this has really floored him. He’s in bed with a hot water bottle now but he really looks awful, shivering and drenched in sweat and he’s said earlier that he doesn’t care if he misses the football tomorrow so he must be feeling REALLY bad! Sorry for such a stupid post I’m just sat downstairs with the baby worrying that he might actually have something serious but talking myself out of doing anything because I really don’t want to waste anyone’s time with the current covid situation.

He doesn't sound well at all op!

Mammyloveswine · 11/07/2021 13:01

Sorry posted too soon! Has he got worse? I hope you get some medical advice soon and must be horrible for you to witness (and obviously horrible for him!)

Zebrahooves · 11/07/2021 13:05

He needs medical attention. He doesn't sound well at all.

WrongKindOfFace · 11/07/2021 13:39

@Zebrahooves

He needs medical attention. He doesn't sound well at all.
I agree. I think he needs to see a dr ASAP.
RoseAndGeranium · 11/07/2021 14:54

Poor man, and poor you OP. Swollen tummy and too sore to touch does not sound so much like my friend’s COVID. Have you tried 111 again?

LuluJakey1 · 11/07/2021 16:11

I think you need to ring 111 and demand he is seen by someone. That sounds like acute appencicitis.

wedswench · 11/07/2021 16:22

Did you tell 111 that in his words it's the worst pain ever and shooting through to his back?

I think I'd get him to A&E myself. My ds had these symptoms and it was appendix

Runningquestion · 11/07/2021 16:45

This sounds like appendicitis. Please either phone 111 for more advice and tell them about his abdomen being swollen and painful to touch, or take him to A&E. I’m an emetophobe too so I wouldn’t usually suggest taking someone who has been vomiting to A&E if I thought it was a bad stomach bug because I hate the thought of it spreading that way, but I really don’t think this is a bug at all.

RoseAndRose · 11/07/2021 16:49

From your update, I think he needs to be seen asap.

Can you get him to an A&E?

JacquelineCarlyle · 11/07/2021 16:49

Op this doesn't sound good - agree with the others that he needs to be seen by a medical professional. Hope he gets sorted and is in the mend soon.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/07/2021 16:55

And these arent Covid symptoms. He doesnt need a test..... Errrr, what makes you say that

OP he needs to be seen asap especially as he won't let you touch his tummy, big red flag for appendicitis.

Cheeeeislifenow · 11/07/2021 17:00

Any update op has he seen someone?

RoseAndRose · 11/07/2021 17:04

Someone who is drenched in sweat, but shivering and feeling cold despite being in bed in summer will be running a temperature and that is one of the three symptoms that mean you should test.

There is a gastric variant of covid.

But the overall symptoms point to a number of other possible diagnoses, and whereas counsel of perfection would be to exclude covid first, this has been brewing up for 3-4 days now and he's getting worse not better, to the extent thaOP does not think he shouid be left even briefly.

I'd go straight to A&E, or ring 111 (hat next to me, ready to be eaten, if they don't say A&E - possibly by ambulance as he seems to be in considerable pain and a car journey might be too much)

Halloweiner · 11/07/2021 17:05

Pain going through to his back screams pancreatitis to me

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/07/2021 17:18

Personally I'd be getting him to A and E and if he can't manage the car then it really is an emergency and you need to ring 999.

WednesdayIsPurple · 11/07/2021 17:37

Hope he's ok

Dp ended up in hospital with similar and it was pancreatitis but it was so painful he had never felt pain like it

I would take it seriously if you can - by the time we got to hospital, dp was only given a 50/50 chance of survival (he collapsed in the street while I was out). It was radiating pain from front to back - really unpleasant!

Hope, whatever it is, he is ok

Hi again everyone, thank you so much for all the messages/advice/concern. Bit of a dramatic afternoon. I got stuck in a queue to call the doctor this afternoon which I gave up on after 20 minutes because by then I could hear DP moaning and groaning upstairs so I was panicking. I called my dad in tears who was settled in the pub for the day and he came straight over with his girlfriend. Took one look at DP and said he needed to be in hospital so he drove us straight there while step mum stayed with baby. I wasn’t able to go into the hospital as my dad was the one practically carrying DP. Anyway long story short he was rushed into surgery pretty quick as it was a classic case of appendicitis and apparently if we’d left it another half hour it would have burst!
I’m sat at home now having a bit of a cry waiting for a text from DP and for my dad and step mum to get back. They’ve gone to get snacks and are going to spend the night here with me and DS watching the game. It could have been much worse obviously but it’s just been a really horrible experience and I feel so terrible for leaving him on his own through most of this when he was feeling so sick. While I was waiting for my dad to arrive DP just kept saying “please make it stop”. Dad managed to get him to let him touch his belly and when he did he pretty much screamed and he was crying on the car journey. I’ve just never seen him like that before and it was really really horrible. I had his phone while I was waiting in the car outside the hospital and he’d been texting his dad this morning (who we were meant to be meeting at the pub later) saying he’d never felt anything like this in his life, he just wanted to cry but he didn’t want to worry me! I feel so awful.
He broke his ankle playing football about 8 years ago and I remember holding him up and seeing he was in pain but he still kept saying he’d be fine. That was bad but it was nothing like today. And now I’m just typing shit, sorry! Thank you everyone, hopefully I’ll get a text from him soon 🤞🏻

Sounded very much like appendicitis to me from what you described. A family member had it the other week and was home 6 hours after the op!

I'm glad you got your DP to the hospital and he got treated quickly. Sending you Thanks he will be on the mend in no time.

FeministKilljoyOlympicWinner · 11/07/2021 17:55

How scary for you, I'm glad your Dad came over and took him in!

Hoping he makes a swift recovery Thanks

wedswench · 11/07/2021 17:57

Glad he's getting sorted. I'm really surprised 111 weren't worried!

icecreamgirl94 · 11/07/2021 19:00

Thanks everyone. To be fair to 111 he wasn’t not letting me touch him last night, he was just saying he felt sick and it hurt.
He’s texted me to let me know he’s ok, feeling better than he was this morning! He apologised for scaring me, like he did it on purpose! 😭 I’ve got to text him all the football updates tonight now. I’m so sad he’s missing it (I know it’s not important). Hopefully I’ll have him home tomorrow 🤞🏻

Bless him! Our local hospital is showing the Match for free on the TVs there. Hopefully he might be able to see it if he's lucky

WednesdayIsPurple · 11/07/2021 19:13

If you're in agony and there is a walk in (ours is open till 8), I would go if you can. You poor thing!

HollowTalk · 11/07/2021 19:15

That poor man! I hope he recovers very quickly.

WednesdayIsPurple · 11/07/2021 19:22

Sorry that was meant for the ear infection thread!

Glad he is in the right place!
