Diet & broken limbs/limited mobility (Terrified of weight gain)

Hello all,

I'm 3 weeks post bimalleolar Ankle fracture and 2 weeks post surgery to fix the the break and dislocation.

I'm usually very very active (i did this while indoor rock climbing fgs Hmm ) I used to be very overweight 16st now 10st and thankfully I've lost my desire for things like white pasta and chips/crisps since the break.

I just cant treat myself at the moment as I feel I don't deserve it. adjusted my diet to low (ish) carb - berries and protein yogurt, fish and salad for lunch and chicken with greens in the evening. snacking on nuts or low sugar protein bar. And of course no alcohol due to meds/thinners

Has anyone else been through similar and found diet played a massive part? did you eat your usual pre-break diet? did you lose or gain?

I am still being fed by DH and don’t feel confident to balance on the scales, but clothes are looser and a nightie that was mid calf seems to be getting nearer my ankles.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 22/07/2021 17:21

@Lushmetender, if they do, which i don't think they will, if they do then explain that you insist on the boot, which i will do in my worst case scenario. the cast is really effecting me mentally and i need the boot on now. A lot of places are 4 cast in a cast now and lots of consultants push for the boot as ROM can be badly effected. They cannot force you to wear a cast just like they cannot force you to stay in hospital unless you are deprived of liberty! Please do not stress,

I have my grandads celebration of life ceremony tomorrow, he passed from covid in Feb. do i drink or not drink? that is the question....with the tinzaparin I'm not so sure! I've not drank for 45 days now xx

Hi I’d have a drink! Have been having some wine so you should be fine! COVID has been tough! I work in a global company so I see the effect it is having in the different countries as we have line managees and colleagues there!. I was working on a project with a person in India and he has died in his mid 40s. I am truly emosh right now so I’d wished I’d not returned part time at work to hear that’

Sorry for your loss boris.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 22/07/2021 17:44

@Lushmetender we are both in the same boat with with wanting to be out of our casts, we know our bodies.

Ye its been really shit. Ive know a couple of people whom passed with covid. xx

Yes! Am outside trying the new wheelchair! Would be good if there weren’t so many obstacles to get around! Still nice to be outside.

Evenstar · 22/07/2021 21:18

Definitely have a drink, sorry for your loss 💐

Good news that you can get about in the wheelchair, a change of scene is good.

Happy Friday! Less than 72 hours to hospital appointment. My husband reckons one consultant said I should put weight on my ankle as much as I could beat yet another one said to me ,”I hope you haven’t been walking on it” so this has been going round in my head! My toes feel a bit freer but I had a real dull ache in my leg last night. What I can imagine arthritis would be like!

Got a posh meal from pow peels on wheels to be delivered today. So date night - even if at home!

Evenstar · 23/07/2021 14:01

Enjoy your posh dinner, we are having a Chinese takeaway, night off for DH!

I rang the hospital this morning and managed to speak to the consultant’s secretary. She said she would look at the diary and then informed me that there were no appointments till September (which I had told her already 🙄) She said she would speak to somebody “ but I don’t know who” and get back to me next week.

She agreed however that being left in the boot for an extra month didn’t sound right, and having spoken to a friend who had the same operation, plus an additional procedure, she was out of the boot at six weeks.

Lushmetender · 23/07/2021 17:21

Getting worried as said my food would be delivered between 1.30 to 3.30 and it’s not arrived yet! Covid is causing delays due to the pingdemic! That would be really disappointing though says out for despatch. They are usually to time!

Hope you get a response next week Evenstar. I’m sure you’ll be able to give the boot the boot v soon! Funny how you want to get rid and now I want the boot! Hope it’s not difficult to use. My legs are quite short so I hear there can be an issue with sizing!

Hope everyone else has a fun weekend!

Mine is more of a shoe and it’s OK apart from the height difference!

Nice! They could catch on. Still no delivery! Very disappointed! I hope the food is not spoiled as likely to be delivered tomorrow despite saying it’s out for delivery. Tracking ain’t working however

Evenstar · 23/07/2021 18:20

Oh keeping everything crossed for your dinner arriving ☹️

I sent my brother a picture of the shoe and he texted back “Not exactly Jimmy Choos are they?” Luckily I prefer Skechers anyway, I have never been able to walk in heels.

Lushmetender · 23/07/2021 18:25

Normally I’d be ok but when you’re looking forward to something… and it cost a lot in perishables so if it isn’t stored properly! ((Sad))

Evenstar · 23/07/2021 18:34

I know, I feel like I can’t cope with disappointment at the moment.

Lushmetender · 23/07/2021 19:29

Had to order pizza! What a let down!

Lushmetender · 24/07/2021 12:01

Rant mode! Food package will be delivered on Monday! Will be totally spoiled by then! What couriers don’t deliver on Saturdays??? Driver “ran out of time”. Pah

Evenstar · 24/07/2021 12:58

That’s really annoying, I think the company need to give you a full refund, it’s their problem to sort the courier out. Doesn’t make up for not getting your nice dinner though ☹️

Lushmetender · 24/07/2021 13:45

The company sending the food have stepped up to pay a full refund but I’m totally disappointed in apc. They just said it’ll be delivered Monday instead of giving any alternatives. You think they could arrange to send via another same day courier or say we can pick up from depot (not that I’d want to as it’s over 30 miles away but at least it would mean the food would get here just before it goes off).

Total cramp in my bad ankle man in the calf. Knee on good leg is sore today due to the hopping around! Another lovely day up here! Less than 48 hours until I see how my ankle is cooking. I hope it’s good news!

Evenstar · 24/07/2021 13:55

Let’s hope so, perhaps you might be able to manage a nice meal out soon. I managed to sit at the table for dinner last night. I am spending most of the day downstairs now but going up to bed a bit earlier as my foot tends to swell in the evening.

Can do a few small jobs like unloading the dishwasher too so things are improving.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 24/07/2021 18:21

Today was a good day. Went to the Trafford Centre in my Wheel chair, got a TGI Fridays too.

Shattered now.

Oh, I ended up on a bottle of wine last night... oops. Didn't take my thinners though.

Lushmetender · 24/07/2021 18:30

Boris fantastic! You deserved it! Couldn’t last 8 weeks without a glass of wine! I’m sitting in the sun in my wheelchair with a numb bum!!! Having some vino and a BBQ!

Good news for me is I’d been paying more tax that I usually do! Checked my payslips and past few months reimbursed! Result! Esp as my sons and husbands birthday in august! Significant birthdays! Yay!

Evenstar · 24/07/2021 18:32

That sounds lovely @Borisjohnsonshairbrush years since I went to TGI Friday’s. I would love to go out, DH was volunteering at the vaccine centre this afternoon, been a bit lonely as the 18 year old just disappeared to his room and then went to the gym.

DH was a bit annoyed as the teen hadn’t even offered to make me a cup of tea, but I said well you know what they’re like. In my experience they seem to become thoughtful and appreciative at about 26!

Evenstar · 24/07/2021 18:35

BBQ and wine sounds good too. You need a good cushion for the wheelchair, they are a bit hard, I’ve got an air cell one I bought for a hard chair and it helps a lot.

Lushmetender · 25/07/2021 17:06

Having my daily vit d fix! Appointment tomorrow- been a long 5 weeks! I hope it’s good news! I’d hate to think it wasn’t healing right. Need to see an end In sight!

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 25/07/2021 19:31

Good luck for tomorrow Lush, hope you get that cast off xx
