Hello all,

I'm 3 weeks post bimalleolar Ankle fracture and 2 weeks post surgery to fix the the break and dislocation.

I'm usually very very active (i did this while indoor rock climbing fgs Hmm ) I used to be very overweight 16st now 10st and thankfully I've lost my desire for things like white pasta and chips/crisps since the break.

I just cant treat myself at the moment as I feel I don't deserve it. adjusted my diet to low (ish) carb - berries and protein yogurt, fish and salad for lunch and chicken with greens in the evening. snacking on nuts or low sugar protein bar. And of course no alcohol due to meds/thinners

Has anyone else been through similar and found diet played a massive part? did you eat your usual pre-break diet? did you lose or gain?

Hi it was hard enough with one dodgy leg so not sure what suggestions I’d have. Funny thing is you’ll probably find a way to move around or whatever. The heel felt well weird when first out of plaster. And you feel really paranoid walking on it first off in case you break it again😫. But it does come back fairly quickly. Keep us updated

I am super excited to get my left cast off soon - my foot is shedding like a snake in there and I cannot wait to peel it all off! Envy I know, sorry not sorry. I actually sort of enjoyed my weekend in hospital (when you have smallish DC, a weekend of quietly watching telly on strong painkillers feels weirdly luxurious - I sometimes used to fantasise about a short admission with something non life threatening when I was deep in the baby plus preschooler years) but now I am BORED. Please lord let nobody in my house catch covid in the next week Shock

Yeah been a shite year. Was looking forward to turning 50 but our first hol marred by broken ankle and threat of surgery. I was in 1 night but a good 36 hours and they didn’t want to let me out due to bad technique with crutches! Thankful I didn’t have surgery. So days in bed for NWB and now have to isolate the children for COVID! Hope your kids do ok! Thinks it inevitable at some point but psychologically there’s a time and place. Back to back is rubbish! Anyway try and enjoy the relaxation! I needed the time off work tbh so good in that way!!

Hi everyone, good to hear we are all progressing. I am building my distance up now, just limited still by swelling on top of my foot. The offending foot has stopped flapping to the side as it was pre-surgery so although I am slower and can’t walk quite as far at the moment I feel quite encouraged.

I am going for another massage on the 27th, and have been advised to roll my foot around on a soft gel ball.

Hey all,

Walking but in pain and I swell after every walk but I'm back at the gym.
Treadmill incline walks and the stairmaster, the bikes, weights and then a swim.

Fed up of the stiffness now xx

Hi good progress Evenstar. Sorry to hear you’re still in pain boris. Have you gone back to the dr? Will it get less over time. I am back wearing trainees but it does swell but not as bad as it did. Supposed to have physio Thursday but will have to move it due to my covid infested household. Still
Hanging in there avoiding it! Hope vaccines doing their job

Did anyone on here have private physio? I’m back in hospital on the 25th to hopefully be cleared for weightbearing on my right foot, but don’t have an NHS physio appt until 10th November. Have been given some exercises for left ankle in the meantime. I’d like to get cracking with rehab. Can I combine private and NHS physio? Get private physio just for a few weeks? Is private a lot better anyway? Not because of the quality of the practitioners, obvs, I’m thinking more the extra one-to-one time?

Lushmetender · 17/10/2021 11:12

Hi I’m seeing a private physio. He mainly gives me a massage and a few exercises but Covid has stopped play for a couple of weeks. NHS saw me twice but said there was little more she could do. Range of movement side to side for me is good but still have some swelling which affects the flexor movement but she reckoned it would come with time and combining swimming/ cycling. I’m still quite protective over my ankle So probably could push it more

TellMeSomeGoodNewsPlease · 17/10/2021 14:29

Thanks! I’ve booked myself in to have a couple of private sessions before the NHS physio appointment so I’ll see where we go from there. I’m obvs rehabbing two legs at once and worried about my general deconditioning plus want to avoid walking with a dodgy gait and effing up my knees/hips/back. So seems like money well spent.
