I think my brain aneurysm's suddenly grown a bit more....

So usually a few years ago I was diagnosed with a 4mm brain aneurysm after a CT scan for recurring headaches, and sporadic blurry vision.
Consultant said I'd only need surgery if it got to 7mm, so in the mean time 'no smoking, no coffee, no alcohol, and keep taking the blood pressure meds'. Which I've done. The 'no stress' bit is the hardest, as we have two boys with significant SEND, so I'm always stressed and sleep deprived. I've also done a VLCD to lose some weight. Had a headache over the last couple of days, but that's not particularly unusual, as I do get them quite a lot. But not usually for days at a time.
Anyway, I sneezed yesterday, and I felt the pressure in my brain. Now part of my head is slightly numb, like when anaesthetic is wearing off. I know it's not blown - I would be puking and my head would be far more painful than it is if it had. But is it really worth bothering the GP over? I'm always having tests for one thing or another, I literally just had a CT scan for my kidneys yesterday, and I feel like I'm always going to the GP for them to send me off for a test which either comes back clear, or with not much wrong. But if there's someone who's been through something similar who knows more, that would help me feel I'm doing the right thing by just getting on with things.

For peace of mind, ask your GP

Whattheactualfk · 24/06/2021 21:24

"But is it really worth bothering the GP over?"

Absolutely. Please go, this is really serious. No GP would judge you for wanting an aneurysm checked due to worsening symptoms.

ATowelAndAPotato · 24/06/2021 21:24

Please do get it checked, absolute not a waste of time Flowers

RampantIvy · 24/06/2021 21:24

Please, please "bother" your GP. A family member had a brain aneurism that burst. Your post set alarm bells ringing.

Whattheactualfk · 24/06/2021 21:25

In fact you should ring 111 tonight and get advice as to whether you need out of hours GP or A&E.

anyon · 24/06/2021 21:26

Yes get it checked.

Ok, people, thanks. I think that's probably clear enough for me to go get it checked. I just feel like such a PITA.

Jesus I'd be at a and e this is one to 'bother' your dr for. I wish you well.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 24/06/2021 21:28

You are not a PITA. You are really important to those 2 little ones of yours and they would absolutely want you to get it checked out.

Greybeardy · 24/06/2021 21:31

Oh for goodness sake, you have a brain aneurysm and new sensory symptoms after doing something that can raise your intracranial pressure! It could be something simple but it could also be something serious. You need urgent real life medical advice.

Ifonlyidknownthen · 24/06/2021 21:43

I've seen the outcome of blown aneurysms during my nursing days. Please go get this checked. Even if it's nothing at least then you will know.

DanglySpider · 24/06/2021 21:47

Yes, you're right, everyone. I'll ring the GP first thing in the morning, or go down to A&E tonight if it gets worse. Thanks everyone.

Ring 111 right now; don't wait till the morning to see GP. 111 will tell you what the wisest thing to do is at this moment.

Eilethya · 24/06/2021 21:53

Please don't wait. I lost someone very close to me due to a brain aneurysm, happened in the blink of an eye.

Phone them now.

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 24/06/2021 21:57

I would ring 111 too they will advise you best.

Mumsgirls · 24/06/2021 22:01

I lost my Dad to this, recently, had been well. Please go to a and e

DotBall · 24/06/2021 22:06

Not necessarily. DH’s SAH happened in work and the first he knew was when he awoke in AnE about to have it coiled. No headache, nothing. He was very lucky, 50% of burst aneurysms don’t make it to hospital, and of those that do, another 30% don’t survive the first week. Of the remainder, another 15% will be left with varying degrees of significant impairment. If you’re part of the fortunate 5% like my DH, you might get to retire early on ill health and be able to pick and choose your activities around your constant fatigue.

Now, go make that appointment with your GP.

Whattheactualfk · 24/06/2021 22:10

Please ring 111 tonight. I'm a (very junior) doctor if that helps...

Swishswish26 · 24/06/2021 22:19

I’m a SAH survivor and I will join others here saying please, please go to A&E. I wouldn’t wait to phone a Dr. I had no symptoms with mine until it burst, your body is giving you warning signals and you need to act on them.

Arabiannights01 · 24/06/2021 22:35

Please call 111. Someone close to me passed on the spot due to a brain aneurysm. There were no warning signs. You have signs so act fast and please, please don’t think that you are troubling the doctors!

gelatodipistacchio · 24/06/2021 22:37

Ahhh please call now

lonesome2night · 24/06/2021 22:41

No OP it's not worth bothering your Gp about; it's something worth bothering your nearest a&e about and I say that as a medical professional

SuperSecretSquirrels · 25/06/2021 18:04

How did you get on OP?

Swishswish26 · 25/06/2021 18:40

I was just thinking about this too… hope you are ok OP
