Driving me mad at the moment.
Has anyone found anything useful to at least get the flaking under control a bit?

DD1 (adult) suffers with this, she swears by shampoo/conditioner called "Nirvana Natural" when it flares up if that helps

MichelleScarn · 14/05/2021 19:40

Following! (As I sit trying to not poke at my scalp!

theleafandnotthetree · 14/05/2021 19:44

My mother and I both use Betnovate scalp application, available only on prescription here in Ireland. It transformed my mothers life, no exaggeration. It's strong stuff, I think is a steroid solution basically but it's very good.

Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 19:45

Following, I'm no help. Been using t gel, it has helped somewhat as its not building up as much but still sore and flaky. I also have it on my body, creams etc haven't worked, hospital treatment hasn't worked so doc emailed pics to dermatology. I've a face to face apt with my doc in a couple of weeks so I'm assuming they have a plan going forward. What that is I don't know. Does anyone know what the next step is if creams and steroid treatments via hospital don't work?

Body shop ginger shampoo

I’ve tried all of the expensive lotions and potions and it’s the only thing that clears it for me

Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 19:55

@IsThisSilly that did nothing for me, just made my hair greasy. Although the body shop hemp butter really helped on some of parts of my body.

partyatthepalace · 14/05/2021 20:05

Does a Betnovate scalp solution not work for you? If you haven’t tried that get it from
gp - only thing that works for me.

bookgirl1982 · 14/05/2021 20:10

Have you tried Philip Kingsley flaky itchy shampoo?

TwoBlueFish · 14/05/2021 20:14

Betnovate worked briefly for my son, it cleared everything up and I thought it was amazing but as soon as he stopped using it it came back. He’s using T-Gel (the clear one) now and it’s vastly improved on his scalp. His is still red and scaly on his forehead near his hairline but he refuses to use the cream he’s got on prescription.

TheVolturi · 14/05/2021 20:15

I have just bought the Garnier Oat Ultimate Blends shampoo and conditioner, not tried yet, but I am hoping it will work for my scalp like Aveeno works for my skin!

LadyEloise · 14/05/2021 20:23

DD2 has it on her scalp.
She uses Betnovate cream which is brilliant but greasy in the hair.
You have to keep using it for it to be effective.
She wakes herself up scratching it at night. Sad
She tried the Betnovate Scalp lotion but it stung a bit.

Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 20:26

I had to go in hospital for outpatient treatment. Some foul stuff was applied then they scrapped cells off. Was disgusting. Didn't even fully clear it and when that treatment was up it came straight back.

nattynoonoo821 · 14/05/2021 21:25

Selsun shampoo. Otc from pharmacist. Only thing I've ever found helps mine!

mynameiscalypso · 14/05/2021 21:28

Absolutely nothing. Anti-TNFs (Humira) are the only thing that have had any impact.

Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 21:34

@mynameiscalypso what is that?

mynameiscalypso · 14/05/2021 21:37
@mynameiscalypso what is that?
Biologics - it's a second (or maybe third?) line treatment. I've tried all the creams plus various other medications (methotrexate, a couple of others) and none of them have really done anything. I have zero idea how it works but it's a fortnightly injection that basically shuts down the overactive bits of your immune system.

Nuggetnugget · 14/05/2021 21:42

Oh I have just treated mine with nizoral but watching for ideas.

HermioneWeasley · 14/05/2021 21:44

Betnovate is the only thing that touches mine.

Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 21:45

@mynameiscalypso is that an immunosuppressant

mynameiscalypso · 14/05/2021 21:46
@mynameiscalypso is that an immunosuppressant
Yes - that's the word that I was grasping for but totally failed to remember!

QueenAdreena · 14/05/2021 21:48

DH alternates between Betnovate and the orangey coloured TGel. I don’t think you’re supposed to use them all the time but the minute he stops it comes back so he does it anyway.

Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 21:48

@mynameiscalypso I've tried all the creams, including highest dose steroid creams that docs can prescribe. And had yukky hospital treatments. I had to photograph my psoriasis on various parts of body, nails, lower back, knees etc for them to forward on to a specialist. Got a text today from gp for face to face apt to discuss results. Was expecting yet another prescription to try.

EmotionallyEncumbered · 14/05/2021 21:49

moogooskincare.co.uk/hair-and-scalp-care/milk-shampoo

MooGoo milk shampoo clears mine, if I ever switch to anything else my psoriasis comes straight back. Annoyingly although my scalp loves it, I don't think my hair does!

Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 21:50

@mynameiscalypso I've had it for 20 years and only time it fully cleared was in pregnancy

Longdistance · 14/05/2021 21:51

I use Betnovate scalp application. It relieves it for a while, but it’s not a long term solution 😩
