Driving me mad at the moment.
Has anyone found anything useful to at least get the flaking under control a bit?

@Dementedswan I would guess that the next step would be something like methotrexate which can be very effective (worked really well for me but messed up my liver so I had to come off it). There are other medications too - there's a ladder that you can go up to find the one that works best for you. Anti TNFs/biologics are expensive (mine costs about £800 a month) and so you have to have tried and failed on a couple of other options to qualify I think. I've been up to 95% covered at times (still have scars even though that flare was nearly a decade ago) and there's a point at which creams just do bugger all and you have zero quality of life. Good luck!

Do you have to have a face to face appointment with a gp to get the prescription one? Can I ask for it on a phone appointment maybe?

I'm desperately trying to clear my scalp before our wedding. Currently trying a Faith in Nature one that was recommended but it's worse if anything

Is the diagnosis on your notes? I was able to get a prescription only cream through a phone call because they saw I had the diagnosis. If I hadn't, they would have insisted on a face to face appointment
Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 21:58

@Workyticket I was booked a double apt for my mental health meds, asked about my psoriasis and joints, was told to send pictures to a link she sent via text and she forwarded my history of meds and pics to dermatology last week. I've now been recieved text message off gp for a face to face apt.

Seconding Selsun shampoo, the only thing that clears up mine & keeps it clear

Dementedswan · 14/05/2021 22:01

I've a long history of psoriasis and meds taken and hospital treatment. I've lived with it a long time. Only brought it up as part of my regular mental health apt as feel it would be be nice to be able to have bare legs / arms and also it's in my ears and I wear hearing aids. Plus hair thinning

Cismyfatarse · 14/05/2021 22:04

Second moogoo. It is absolutely amazing and has cured my scalp and body (which was being irritated by shampoo in the shower. Amazing stuff.

99point9FahrenheitDegrees · 14/05/2021 22:07

Bioderma DS+ shampoo has been my silver bullet. And this reminds me I need to stock up!

I’ve had this 40 years and everything works for a while then randomly stops working. Sorry everyone.

However I’ve used Phillip Kingsley itchy flaky scalp for a few years and it’s great but ridiculously expensive.

Big surprise having previously had bad experiences with Head and Shoulders is their Classic Clean stuff - awesome. I’m growing grey out and it was recommended on here. Was expecting it to start a flare up of psoriasis but so far so good. It might stop working somewhere down the line but at least it’s affordable.

LilyRed · 14/05/2021 22:24

I had it for over 25 years before my GP took it seriously and prescribed Capasal (sp) shampoo which contains coal tar and salycylic acid, and betnovate. After nearly ten years of using the betnovate I stopped as I no longer needed it. I wash with shampoo once or twice a week ans water wash other days.
Going 'Curly girl regime' meant I became extra careful about ingredients and I am incredibly careful about what I use on my scalp now, any itchiness means stop using immediately and that means throw the product out.
I've currently found that sukin conditioner works well and doesn't irritate, so I'll stick with that.

Hellcatspangle · 14/05/2021 22:25

My dm has this badly and she's had great success with body shop ginger shampoo.

BurbageBrook · 14/05/2021 22:29

Body Shop ginger shampoo. Miracle stuff!

BurbageBrook · 14/05/2021 22:30

Cross post there - it really is fab.

housecoat1968 · 14/05/2021 23:11

Wow ...went out out and got home to 40 replies!
Haven't tried anything for a while as never had much luck but it seems particularly bad this spring so will work my way through all of these suggestions.

T gel shampoo is only thing that works for me

theleafandnotthetree · 14/05/2021 23:18

@nattynoonoo821

Selsun shampoo. Otc from pharmacist. Only thing I've ever found helps mine!
Yes, Selsun is excellent. That and the betnovate scalp application are the two key products for me. Though to be fair, I don't think mine is as severe as some peoples here
WhateverJohnnyMcNofriends · 14/05/2021 23:26

The only thing that helped mine was when I was put onto cimzia injections for PSA.

Before that, i used to get so much pleasure from brushing my hair, it was delicious (until I went too hard for too longGrin)

notnowdennis · 14/05/2021 23:29

T gel and prescription calcipotriol solution for me

fedupandfiredup · 15/05/2021 00:00

I have capasal on prescription and it's brilliant stuff. I use it 2-3 times a week and it keeps things under control. I think you can buy it without prescription aswell

whysorude · 15/05/2021 00:08

Niazarol here, and use coconut oil to keep my scalp moisturised. I also have an allergy to linalool/ perfume so have to be careful and check all product ingredients.

cherrytree63 · 16/05/2021 09:13

Have you tried polytar shampoo?

Maze76 · 16/05/2021 10:56

Niazarol and Sulpher 8 scalp ointment works for me

housecoat1968 · 18/05/2021 17:46

@welshsoph

I’ve suffered with scalp psoriasis on and off for 30 years. I use Kerastase spécifique bain shampoo and put tamanu oil on my scalp at night. I was just saying to DH today that I feel like I’ve finally got it under control
Thanks. Just looked on Amazon- there seem to be lots of shampoos. Which one do you use? Smile
