Went for a scan in relation to suspected gallstones, but they have found a large lesion on my liver. I'm being referred for more tests via the two-week cancer pathway. I'm so, so scared. Trying to stay strong for my family and not to assume the worst, but can't seem to stop my mind from going there. My daughter is only 15 and she still needs me.

Thank you @cannotfindaspareusername, I'm so, so relieved. Cannot begin say how happy I am! I am so incredibly grateful for the NHS and how thoroughly they have investigated everything, how quickly the results have come through and how lovely the GP was on the phone earlier. And I'm so grateful for my health - we sometimes take it for granted, but I am never going to do that again. I am just so happy!

That is so lovely to hear! Hope you're able to relax now :)

Wonderful news and happy celebrating! Xxx

TheseAreTheTimea · 24/05/2021 20:51

I'm so pleased to read this update. I had a health scare a couple of months ago and I was thinking the worse, especially because of my dc, and like you said afterwards I couldn't thank the nhs for thoroughly checking me over and also so grateful for my health, I'll never take it for granted again. X

paralysedbyinertia · 24/05/2021 21:05

Thanks all. I do feel truly lucky, as it could so easily have been a different outcome. I'm glad that your story had a happy ending too @TheseAreTheTimea. I will value my health so much more after this last couple of weeks...it is so easy to take it for granted but I feel so grateful for it now.

It could be from your gallstones. Have you had any symptoms like itching, pale stools, dark urine or jaundice? My liver got inflamed when I had gallstones & I had all the above symptoms, I was also accused of being an alcoholic after my liver function test results buy it was the gallstones & cleared up within a month after the operation. My gallbladder was also so badly infected it was stuck to my liver & I narrowly avoided having to have open surgery instead of keyhole.

Onebabyandamadcat · 25/05/2021 10:19

What a great update! I'm so happy for you OP. Having been there I know how terrifying the past few weeks must have been. I'm so glad it was a positive outcome. I imagine you'll be a bit like me and need a follow up scan maybe once a year for a while just to keep an eye on it but that's nothing. Enjoy the brighter place the world will look like for the next few weeks

CafeMochaVodkaValiumLate · 25/05/2021 10:23

That's fantastic news!

paralysedbyinertia · 25/05/2021 10:49

Thank you all. The world is definitely looking brighter right now, @Onebabyandamadcat! I'm determined to hold on to this feeling and not take my heath for granted ever again!

Hi @paralysedbyinertia,

I've just read your story and what you've experienced and it's brought me much hope amd glad you are fine and healthy. 2.5 weeks ago I went for an abdominal ultrasound to check my endometriosis, which was fine but they found a 2.4cm leision on my liver. Hey said it's likely focal fatty deposition but want to clarify so all ican do is focus on what if its not I've!! I've never been so scared, I'm only 32 and have an 8 year old im not ready to leave her, nor my hubby to be, we are marrying 3rd July and this has all just come at the wrong time, I go from brave, to a wreck, to somewhere in between constantly. Had my MRI yesterday evening as part of the 2 week thingy they do.
Do you happen to know what type of leision they diagnosed you with?

paralysedbyinertia · 09/06/2021 19:31

I'm so sorry that you are going through something similar, @Sevs88. I can imagine how you must be feeling right now, and can really relate to your feelings about not being ready to leave your daughter yet. I am glad if my experience can give you some hope. It will probably turn out fine for you as well, but I know how hard it is when you're dealing with that uncertainty.

In answer to your question, I was diagnosed with focal nodular hyperplasia, which is apparently benign and nothing to worry about. I am so grateful for the happy outcome and am reminding myself daily not to take life for granted.

Sorry, posted too soon but just wanted to wish you all the very best and really hope that you have a positive outcome to the investigations. In the meantime, try not to torture yourself with the worst case scenarios - worrying won't help either way. You will get through this. Flowers

Thank you for writing back. It's so helpful to have someone who knows almost exactly what you're going through, because of course not many of us know anyone that have been in out particular boat. I try and remain positive but sometimes it catches me and then I crumble.i had absolutely no symptoms but since they've told me all I seem to be doing is picking up on every little thing indicative of a sinister outcome, like I had an appetite before this, now I have to force myself to eat so I don't lose weight, or like I've noticed a niggle past 3 days under my ribcage but also I suffer from anxiety so then wonder is it that playing tricks on me.
I pray in my mind constantly to whoever may be listening for an outcome like yours and promise that I'll never ever take my body or life for granted, just please don't let it be awful news. I keep focusing on the fact they think its fat but the reason they wanted to check casts that dreaded doubt! The ultrasound nurse seemed a little panicked and called the consultant radiologist in wanting to send me for MRI that day, who then was actually the total opposite and almost unconcerned and said to just refer in view of it looking like fat but to clarify, so I left totally confused. And of course I've googled and everyone says not to, but then when you're left pondering for weeks how can you not Confused

Did your results take long? I've been told mine will be sent to the GP and can take up to 2 weeks... thanks so much for your support xDaffodil

paralysedbyinertia · 09/06/2021 21:31

Yeah, I started imagining all kinds of symptoms, too. I think it's inevitable, but it really isn't helpful. I found it helpful to distract myself as much as possible by watching funny films etc. It's very hard not to go to that awful place sometimes, though.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your results. I was told two weeks too, and it probably did take them that long to write to me formally to confirm the diagnosis, but the results went back to my GP very quickly and she rang me as soon as she received them as she knew I was anxious. I went for the MRI on a Sunday and the GP got the results late in the day on Tuesday, so very little waiting time thankfully.

Try not to Google if you can help it. It really doesn't help. I really hope for a positive outcome for you.Flowers

I’m also on this track. Had an abdominal ultrasound due to upper GI symptoms (persistent nausea, vomiting) and a significant liver lesion was found. It wasn’t there in February when I had a previous round of imaging. One of my liver enzymes is very high too. Aargh! Am feeling increasingly rubbish, with pain in flank and back, night sweats, fatigue.

Never expected a liver problem. I don’t even drink alcohol!

Thankfully I don’t have to wait long for further tests which are this coming week.

AlexaShutUp · 13/06/2021 11:26

Best of luck for your tests, @LarkDescending. I really hope you get a positive outcome.Flowers

Sevs88 · 13/06/2021 11:56

Sorry to hear you're in a similar boat @LarkDescending! It's really horrid isn't it just playing this waiting game. I don't have any symptoms other than a gas and gurgling and what I can only describe as "niggles" in the upper abdomen but only for the past week, however I can suffer from mild IBS so wonder if its stress exacerbating things. Bowel movements and urine etc are all fine so who knows what's going on. I have drank quite a bit prior to this I definitely took my health for granted, and also purposefully lost quite a bit of weight quickly ready for the wedding- all things that the liver does not appreciate and things I will never do again! Just want to hear the results so I can focus on my wedding which was 3 weeks away yesterday!
What further tests will you be having do you know, have they said what they thought the issue may be?

LarkDescending · 13/06/2021 19:45

Thanks so much @AlexaShutUp and @Sevs88. I’m having a transnasal endoscopy and MRI in the next few days. The nurse who phoned me didn’t want to be drawn on what they thought it was - basically “could be something benign or something more sinister”. Fair enough! We shall see.

Bethwhite7277 · 16/09/2021 11:29

Hi,
Just wondering if they’re going to be doing you regular MRI monitoring I’ve had 2 since December 2020 I’m due my next in October for the six tumours I have on my liver which they’ve said are FNH always have major anxiety coming up to scans expecting something to have changed x
