Has anyone any experience of PMT symptoms mimicking early preganancy symptoms?

I am not pregnant. I have, however, for the last 3 - 6 months felt very tired, very, very emotional, spotty, and most oddly, nauseous, each month I've wondered, could I be pregnant? Knowing that I couldn't because my dh had be 'neutered' but still, these odd symptoms persist, I have never felt like this pre-menstrually before? Anyone else, or am I a total freak???!!!!

LOL at neutered!

Umm are you sure he's sperm free? If so, and assuming you haven't been 'biting anyone else's doughnut' I think you are probably fairly safe.

I assume you are still having periods? After three months the nausea usually goes away with pregnancy too. Perhaps peeing on a stick could help you though, if only to put your mind at rest.

I sometimes feel nauseous and emotionally with PMT. But then I also feel that way when I'm pregnant, it's only ginormous boobs and cervical mucous which tips me off to the fact that I have 'one on board'.

notnowbernard · 14/11/2007 21:37

I can hardly tell the difference between the two, either.

Sore boobs, cramping, tearful, irrational, knackered...

weebleswobble · 14/11/2007 21:37

Menopause?

3Ddonut · 14/11/2007 21:37

he never did get his count checked which is why I always wonder, but despite the odd symptoms I have a normal cycle and period so I am sure that I am not pg. I just wondered if anyone else has these symptoms as the nausea particular is not a 'typical' symptom, am feeling a little bit freaky tbh!!!!!

thanks weebles.... I am only 30!!! even my Mum hasn't gone through that yet!!!

notnowbernard, I haven't noticed feeling so tired as a pre-menstual symptom before either, so it's not just me then??? I suppose symptoms change with age and pg's?!!!

weebleswobble · 14/11/2007 21:40

ok, it was just a thought. If your mum had gone through it early you could follow suit. My mum started hers at 40 and my sister a 39. According to my dr I'm showing symptoms. In fact apart from the nausea, pretty much what your symptoms are.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/11/2007 21:41

I have defo had phantom pg's that turn out to be PMT. I've even experienced phantom kicks which have convinced me I am pg! Very odd.

3Ddonut · 14/11/2007 21:42

Yeah, it's really the nausea thing that makes me wonder how odd am I really???!!!!! Everything else is 'textbook' the rest is me just being odd, me thinks!!!!

notnowbernard · 14/11/2007 21:42

I was really suprised when I found out I was pg with dd1. I was sure I was just late, as I had every PMT symptom in the book!

3Ddonut · 14/11/2007 21:43

OMG iliketomoveit, I've had that odd sensation a few times too, I really thought that I had always had these funny sensations and never noticed them, but that having gone through 3 pg's I had become more tuned into it!

I get nauseous just before my period, also have sore breasts and spots.

I mentioned it to my Gynae last time I was there and she pretty much poo pooed the idea that it was PMT. Have another appointment tomorrow so will mention it again.

3Ddonut · 14/11/2007 21:45

So what do they think it is then??? It seems from other people's experiences, that it is?!!!

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 14/11/2007 21:49

I sometimes get a crocodile turning round in my stomach feeling pre-menstrually (sorry it's the only way I can describe it) which is quite remarkably similar to the kicking sensation of a baby). My gynae said it was the uterus contracting prior to menstruation.

Either that or I have a large intestinal worm

Pee on a stick donut!

Ladies, you have to remember that when it comes to the medical establishment, if it isn't in a book or researched, then it can't possibly exist! You must be making it up and a complete hypochondriac!

kindersurprise · 14/11/2007 21:55

Ok, have to admit to complete ignorance here, or almost complete.

What are the symptoms of the menopause?

I can remember my mum being really narky and grumpy for a while and we later realised it was the beginning of the end.

DH asked me recently when it starts, but he is just hoping to avoid the snip

whomovedmychocolate · 14/11/2007 21:58

Kinder -

Scatty or irregular periods
Hot flushes
Turning into a hormonal banshee
Spots
Sore norks
Weight gain
Sensitivity to smells, textures
Stomach upsets

Pretty much your normal PMT kit and caboodle. Oh except it lasts for up to 15 years. What fun

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 14/11/2007 22:00

15 years - holy shit!!!

DumbledoresGirl · 14/11/2007 22:06

3Ddonut, I can relate to what you are saying. I know I cannot be pregnant as dh has had the snip, yet sometimes it feels like I am and once I even went so far as to buy a test.

I couldn't tell you exactly what symptoms I get as they change from month to month, but I have certainly begun to notice my periods more than I used to as there are symptoms intruding on me: sometimes I am late, sometimes I have headaches or feel very tired, sometimes I get stomach aches which I have not had since having my first child. Dh used to annoy me with talk of my having PMT as I did not believe I suffered from that, but now I am beginning to see emotional changes in myself so I can see I do get it a bit now.

I have decided it is just something I will have to put up with. I have had hormonal testing and I was not pre-menopausal then so I don't know if it is menopausally linked.

kindersurprise · 14/11/2007 22:11

WMMC
Oh, that is interesting. I have put a mental tick after 6 of those symptoms. And weight gain too, as a result of not being able to stop feeding my face

I do not think that it could be though, as I am only 34

Ooh me too Kinder but it can happen you know. More likely though you are suffering from 'it's too sodding cold and I'm fed up-itis's

kindersurprise · 14/11/2007 22:27

Suffering from that too, wmmc, but I have had this for the past few months. Actually, when I think back, the nausea started after DS was born. It is sometimes so bad that I throw up.

Have also done pg tests 3 times over the past 6 or 7 months.

So, can you test for this?

whomovedmychocolate · 14/11/2007 22:33

Actually yes you can. It's to do with plummeting oestrogen levels apparently. But it proves bugger all because some people don't notice when their hormones shoot about and us more sensitive souls suffer

Personally I am really thin these days and it's helped - apparently fat produces more hormones than anything and so losing three stone killed a lot of the source of the problem for me.

I'm also still breastfeeding which apparently helps because you get regular hits of oxytocin which can help balance all the other shitty hormones which make you crazy. Drinking lots of water similarly helps excrete them quicker. So grab a pint of water before getting your axe out and chasing the postie next time

kindersurprise · 14/11/2007 22:35

lol, we have a lovely postie. Might chase him, but certainly not with an axe!

Will ask the gynae tomorrow what she thinks (cue patronising look and "oh, I don't think so dear" comment)
