Does anyone else feel "a bit cystitis-y" very frequently?

teatreesteatowel · 22/03/2021 14:25

I was just wondering if anyone recognises this as I can't find anything online.

Probably once a fortnight I feel very mild cystitis symptoms. So a sort of vague burning feeling in my urethra, the feeling that I need to wee, even if I don't, and a "heavy" feeling in my bladder.

It normally sorts itself out if I drink loads of water and use a hot water bottle for the discomfort. It's nowhere near as bad or as painful as fully blown cystitis but it is starting to become inconvenient.

Anyone else get this?

I get pelvic pain every few weeks, which feels like a uti. Slight kidney pain. My doctor has booked me in for a scan and bloods, today. No burning wee

Footle · 22/03/2021 15:07

Look up interstitial cystitis.

Bringonthemushrooms · 22/03/2021 15:09

Yep suffered for 17 years with this

If you find out what it is pls share! I get pelvic pain, heavy feeling, constant urge to go to loo but no burning... so sort of half cystitis symptoms but not like real cystitis!
SuperJune · 22/03/2021 15:13

Yes! Wasnt sure if it was hormonal (/kidding myself as such so I wouldn't have to try and get hold of some antibiotics). Had it last week and this week feel fine. I try very hard not to get cystitis so every time I get the symptoms I feel like a bit of a failure 😞

Sorry not to be able to be of more help! I hope you feel better soon 💐

Rootsmanouvre · 22/03/2021 15:13

I get it for a couple of days at the same point in my cycle every month.

I’ve had tests and it’s apparently just one of those things. Like a lot of women’s troubles seem to be.

lojojomo · 22/03/2021 15:15

Yes. Interstitial cystisis. There are some measures you can take that are reasonably effective:

  1. get a squatty potty or steps to raise your feet and put your body in the best position to fully empty your bladder.
  2. double void
  3. drink a pint of water in the morning.

Have you checked you haven’t got a slight prolapse? I have those symptoms from mine

trevigirl · 22/03/2021 15:19

I would be like this if I used scented bath products, or anything other than Femfresh 0% on vulval area.
Urinary symptoms can be due to menopause: could that be the case with you, OP?

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 22/03/2021 15:20

if you are "of an age" 45/50 ish, it could be menopause related...I went to GP to discuss a likely cystitis thing and she advised that along with other complaints (localised itching/dryness, hot flushes/vicious interminable periods/lack of sleep/constant bathroom visits) could be vaginal atrophy

She prescribed Vagifem and all the cystitis symptoms vanished.

Am now using gel in conjunction with mirena and no more vagifem and that's dealing with all the other symptoms!

bettertimesarecomingnow · 22/03/2021 15:25

Yes me too; it drives me insane and I do everything I can to try and avoid it. But every couple weeks I get a flare up.

Trinacham · 22/03/2021 15:28

Twice in a row now I've had urinary infections without the usual symptoms - I won't get the burning, just twinges, and no constant need to go either. The first time, I just had visible blood, no other symptoms. Worth sending a sample in to your GP, as UTIs don't always have the typical symptoms. My symptoms were very mild, yet the infection took multiple courses of antibiotics to go!

That’s interesting, I had a prolapse but has been ‘fixed’ with mesh
Bagelsandbrie · 22/03/2021 19:13

Vagina atrophy / low oestrogen can cause this. I suffered for ages and didn’t even know it was a thing. You don’t have to be menopausal age to have it either, can affect anyone. The Gp can prescribe internal oestrogen- low dose so very safe, called Ovestin - it changed my life. I also use Replens on the days I don’t use the Ovestin. Replens is non hormonal and you can buy it from Amazon or boots etc but you can also get it on prescription. You need the Ovestin cream though if you suspect it might be an issue.

Cam2020 · 22/03/2021 19:19

Bladder irritatation due to dehydration? I've had this before when I've been really busy at work and neglected drinking and it's usually salvageable with a load of water over the next couple of days.

Imicola · 22/03/2021 19:24

Yep, me also, for many years. Used to be worst after sex (switching position helped immensely). Ive seen a urologist and dermatologist for that and other issues, but it wasn't until I read something many years later that I realised it was probably all down to vaginal dryness, although I have normal hormone levels and not menopausal. Waiting for an appointment with a gynecologist now.

ShellieEllie · 22/03/2021 20:05

Could it be fibroids or ovarian cysts?

starbody · 22/03/2021 20:19

Look up candida issues in the body as it can trigger interstitial cystitis issues, for example eating lots of fruit or sugar can overload the body and the bladder can be affected.
Also taking D-mannose powder daily is a lifesaver for bladder issues, this is not a drug and is widely used in the USA it's very very effective for treating even very painful cystitis and burning bladder pains when normally an antibiotic would be prescribed

CharlieB93 · 22/03/2021 20:28

@BanditoShipman might be worth investigating? I have a bladder prolapse and often have them symptoms around the time of the month

Blossomhill123 · 22/03/2021 21:17

I have these symptoms (45) heavy feeling in pelvis , urinating throughout the night , irritable bladder .
These symptoms have come and gone throughout the last few weeks .
I figured if it was anything dodgy it would be all the time .

teatreesteatowel · 22/03/2021 22:25

Oh wow, sorry to hear so many others have similar. Sounds like it could be a lot of different things so I'll do some Googling of the suggestions. Too scared to investigate what a prolapse is though Shock

Not sure it would be menopause related - I'm only 33.

Mydogdoesntlisten · 22/03/2021 23:29

Agree with Cam2020 re dehydration. If I don't drink enough I get similar symptoms. Weirdly, I have found that drinking full fat cows milk (not even loads, maybe just in tea and coffee throughout the day) made a huge positive difference. I still have to try to drink enough fluid though.

Idefinatelyhavefriends · 22/03/2021 23:34

Yep. Also have interstitial cystitis. I flare up with lack of water, certain foods-mostly processed but others say juice can be bad- and it's also worse at certain times of the month.

Fridacaninelo · 22/03/2021 23:37

Interstitial cystitis is often misdiagnosed. If you think you have this PLEASE asked to be referred as it could be a long lasting underlying UTI which is not picked up by GP tests nor treated by short courses of antibiotics.

I suffered for a decade thinking I had IC when I was finally referred to a specialist and I'd had an underlying recurring infection that whole time. Needed 6 months of low dose antibiotics.

CoffeethenCrochet · 22/03/2021 23:39

I have painful bladder syndrome which sounds very similar. Heavy bladder feeling, no stinging but the urgency is rather painful at times. I was referred to a urologist. Had my bladder stretched under general anaesthestic which has helped to some extent. If you haven't already, do speak to your G.P. as there are options to help
