How can I stop my belly bloating?

Timeformyparty · 21/03/2021 15:52

I am not over weight. I start off the day with a half decent belly, flattish and I’m happy with it. As soon as I start eating and drinking I am bloated. It does not matter what I eat or drink. Have tried various different things. Just drinking water makes it bloated. By the end of the day I look 6 months pregnant.

My ovaries etc are all fine and it’s not that|. I know wheat and dairy definitely makes it worse. Is there some tablets or supplement that I can take??

You could try peppermint tea, or peppermint capsules if you don’t like the tea.

Following with interest as I have the same issue. Wake up with a (relatively) flat stomach and by the end of the day I look about 5 months pregnant.

Mrsjayy · 21/03/2021 16:10

Have you had it checked out is it painful? I take peppermint capsules I have bowel problems and it helps with the boat. At the moment I'm taking colpermil tablets

Timeformyparty · 21/03/2021 16:23

I have had this problem for years. GP day IBS despite the fact I have no other symptoms and also tried the FODMAP diet. No pain..

Are you post menopause? I have this problem and am thinking it's hormone related maybe?

Timeformyparty · 21/03/2021 16:31

No I’m late 30’s but have been like this for a good 7/8 years

Ibs doesn't have to mean diarrhea/constipation though it can manifest In bloating. Do you have a cough? it could also be acid reflux

MattBerrysHair · 21/03/2021 16:40

I get this too. The only thing that worked was cutting out all sugar and wheat and staying generally low carb.

Timeformyparty · 21/03/2021 16:58

@MattBerrysHair all kinds of sugar? Even fruit?? I only have sugar in my coffee nothing else really as I cook/make most from scratch. Don’t get me wrong, I could eat healthier!

No I don’t have a cough

Same here - I always look 6 months pregnant at the end of the day, despite being gluten and dairy free (coeliac and lactose intolerant) Dietician not very helpful so don’t know where to go next.

Timeformyparty · 21/03/2021 18:57

@Star8181 it’s annoying as the later afternoon/evening is generally when I want to look my nicest (post covid obv) it really affects what I can wear!

If I could take a pill each morning for the rest of my life I would! Peppermint tea doesn’t do much... unless I’m gassy Blush Grin

Following. IBS here, I think. Exacerbated by what I eat. My DH can eat what he likes which I find unfair!

Fred578 · 21/03/2021 19:02

I’m the same. Really frustrating

Daisydoesnt · 21/03/2021 19:10

OP I used to find that wearing anything tight round my waist (like tight jeans, or a skirt waistband, even a pair of tights which had a tight waistband) would cause the most awful bloating. I am fine if the tightness is lower, like round my hips. My gastronenterologist put me onto it many years ago and it has worked for me. He said he even had patients for whom a tight bra strap could trigger bloating.

Mrsjayy · 21/03/2021 20:33

I rarely wear a bra now i wear crop tops because it got so bad and I was in agony.

Timeformyparty · 21/03/2021 21:26

@Daisydoesnt why would a waist band make you bloat? Unless you are wearing clothes that are too small and maybe squashing your Inards...?

What did you do to help it? I think your post is missing something x
Daisydoesnt · 22/03/2021 11:14

I don’t know why wearing tight waistbands made me bloat but I can assure you it did/ does. And I’m/was a size 8 so no I wasn’t wearing clothes that didn’t fit me! I think it was connected with constructing the natural passage of food through my digestive system. At the time I was working in an office and I stopped wearing anything round my waist like tights (switched to hold ups) and swapped skirts for dresses, and any trousers made sure they sat on my hips rather than high waisted.

Same. It's as if any sort of restriction/constriction is enough to stop everything moving through the bowel, or traps wind or.....something 🤷‍♀️

Best to get checked for coeliac or other gut issues at the GP

If clear then see a BANT nutritionist. Lots you can do! Depends on the underlying cause

Timeformyparty · 22/03/2021 13:22

I had Bloods done for coeliacs years ago, have had ibs meds, fodmap diets etc and nothing has helped. The only time I wasn’t like this was 3/4 years ago when I went through a very stressful time, lost weight as I was barely eating...

Daisydoesnt · 22/03/2021 15:26

What does your typical day look like OP? You say you start to bloat as soon as you start eating in the morning; where do you eat breakfast? What are you doing immediately before and after? Is it as bad at the weekend or when your daily routine is different? Could stress be a factor?

Timeformyparty · 22/03/2021 15:36

Ok so as soon as I have a glass of water I bloat. I get up drink some water whilst kettle boils for my coffee and I have one brown sugar and use lactose free milk. Breakfast is granola with added flaxseed with plain kefir (I have found I’m less bloated since i started taking this) lunch depends on what I’m doing/time, quite often have eggs and mushrooms/tomatoes or soup but some days I’m bad when I’m rushing and have a sandwich which bloats me. Dinner is a down fall as I eat anything as I’m already bloated. Maybe lasagna with salad, stir fry, fajitas, jacket potatoes etc. Carb heavy for sure but at end of the day (during lockdown) I don’t care about my belly at that point!
