i am really sore down you know where, and i am bleeding ever so slightly. my pack of pills don't run out until monday so i know it isn't my period. i have had more sex than usual this week, and yesterday it was painful. it stings when i go to the toilet, and hurts so much now. any advice?

sorry your are having problems

It is virtually impossible to be certain of the cause of your bleeding and discomfort without a visit to the doctor. Any chance you could call your local surgery and get an emergency appointment?

gotaprob · 30/10/2004 09:14

i already have an appointment for monday as i needed to go for another perscription of my pill. i have had this before when i started having sex again a few months ago, but it didn't sting like it does now

sounds like cystitis to me. go to the chemist and get some cystopurin.....its a powder you put in water and drink. Get plenty of fluids down you. Cranberry juice and barley water are best for when you have cystitis. HTH

Titania · 30/10/2004 09:19

btw i would still go to the doctors, as cystitis left untreated can lead to kidney infections. The cystopurin should help over the weekend until you can get to the doctors on monday

gotaprob · 30/10/2004 09:21

i did think it could be that titania, is there anything i can take that will help the stinging until i can get to chemist?

my nan swears by a little bit of bicarbonate of soda in a drop of water. if you have got any aloe vera of aqueous cream to put on there than that may help with the stinging. use a hot water bottle as well.

gotaprob · 30/10/2004 09:33

haven't got any of that. i found clotrimazole cream, is that any good?

OP posts:
Titania · 30/10/2004 09:34

not sure on that......

just bathe in cool water maybe?

gotaprob · 30/10/2004 09:35

ok, thanks

Skate · 30/10/2004 09:36

Clotrimazole is for thrush so won't work if it's cystitis I don't think.

Could it be that you've just 'overdone it' iyswim?? Sorry to be forward! Have you done it lots after a while of not?

gotaprob · 30/10/2004 09:49

lol skate, you got it in one, and i'm going to kill him for it! i will go to chemist in a minute to see what i can get.

OP posts:
Skate · 30/10/2004 09:52

LOL!! I'm sure that's what it will be then!

Maybe the stinging when you go to the loo is just because it's been 'rubbed' too much . You probably could just put some aqueous cream on then to 'cool it down'!!

gotaprob · 30/10/2004 09:54

but it didn't hurt yesterday, so if it was down to that, wouldn't i have felt the stinging yesterday?

OP posts:
Skate · 30/10/2004 09:57

Oh right - mmm, yes. Maybe you have got cystitis then and maybe having lots of 'it' doesn't help?? Def go to the chemist and see what you can get for it. Have you got pain where your kidneys are? If so it could be a UTI and then you'll need antibiotics.

Gotta go now but get to the chemist!!

gotaprob · 30/10/2004 09:59

thanks skate. no it just hurts you know where. would DP be at risk of getting it too if i've got it?

OP posts:
Flossam · 30/10/2004 10:16

Where are you bleeding from though? Is it when you wee or is it like a period? Could be cystitus, like everyone has said, can be called honeymoon cystitus cause people do get it when they have been at it like rabbits! Lucky you and poor you!

gingernut · 30/10/2004 10:18

Having lots of `it' increases your chances of getting cystitis, IIRC. Can't really advise as have been lucky enough never to have had cystitis. But would try a little of the clotrimazole anyway, in case it's thrush (you'd feel some relief from that almost immediately). Agree with others that visit to chemist and docs prob a good idea too. DP wouldn't be at risk from cystitis but if it turns out to be thrush he needs to treat it too.

gotaprob · 30/10/2004 10:21

i only notice the bleeding when i've gone to the toilet and see it on the toilet paper. it's not a lot, only like a few drops but i mentioned it as it feels like i have a cut and that's why it stings when i go to the toilet. it reminds me of when i had to have stitches after giving birth to DD, and every time i went to the toilet it stung like hell, but it's not that bad now IYSWIM.

If you don?t feel up to talking to a pharmacist, I would phone NHS Direct for advice and give them all your symptoms. Peace of mind if nothing else and a faceless person on the end of the phone can be less embarrassing than in a more public setting.

I have had cystitis as a student (no guessing how...) and ignored it untl i was quite ill. It only took about five days before I was running a very high temperature and had a full blown kidney infection. To cut a long story short, I missed a fair bit of my course, had a short stay in hospital and a nasty scare all round. Just because loads of women suffer from this it doesn?t mean you can take it lightly - get it treated properly or you could create worst problems for yourself. If at any point you notice yourself feeling a lot worse over the weekend while waiting for your appt. - phone a GP to come out there and then. Don?t wait.
If you think it is bleeding from your vagina and all down to sex and no infection - dare I say that sudocrem for the outer bits and yoghurt for inside (plain and no bits...) works wonders!! Plenty of warm baths with no bath oil or bubbles other than lavender oil is good too. Lavender oil promotes calm and healing so worth a shot.

Stripymouse · 30/10/2004 10:36

Do you think you have a slight tear? Or is it from your urinary tract? Important you work out where it is coming from so you know how to treat it

gotaprob · 30/10/2004 10:40

thanks stripymouse, i did have a look, but can't say i can see anything. checked again as well, and i don't think i am bleeding now, so maybe it was just a one off thing. i'm not too sure, so i will have to keep an eye on it. have been drinking plenty of water. my sister had it a few months ago (my mum is looking to see if she has any medication left over from that). she left it and got an infection from it, so do not want to go down that road. does anyone know what the NHS number is, as i think i'd rather do it that way than speak to someone in person.

0845 46 47 48 for NHS Direct. I think this is your best bet too!

Stripymouse · 30/10/2004 10:44

I think it is 0845 46 47 but check on their website to make sure hth

moomina · 30/10/2004 10:44

Sounds more like you've got a bit of a tear. Try sudocrem and abstention for a couple of days

But if not, I used to get cystitis quite regularly and found that drinking LOTS of water helped, so you could try that (it'll also dilute your wee so it won't sting as much when you pee).

IME, if it's thrush you would be feeling rather itchy and probably have (ahem) discharge (god don't you hate that word?)

Stripymouse · 30/10/2004 10:45

sorry missed of the 48 bit, what a clutz
