that he only has one. And yes that is DS you read. He is 6. He had one undescended testicle operated on at age 3 and I must admit that I haven't check him out recently but we were talking about balls (as you do with 6 yr old boys) and I asked him how many he had. He said 2. I said can I check. He giggled. Lay back and said "this might be...." (I was worried he would say lucky day) "my massage".

Anyway - checked and although the operated side appears to have one the other side doesn't.

Anyone heard of this?

I know one undescended on is not unusual but 2??

strange post?

Plinkyplonk · 06/11/2007 21:10

{hmm]

Rhubarb · 06/11/2007 21:12

Sorry, it's just a strange way to phrase your problem.

morningpaper · 06/11/2007 21:13

weird

see GP

ruddynorah · 06/11/2007 21:13

why the weirdo story? why not just ask if undescended testicles are normal in a 6 year old?

weird.

Desiderata · 06/11/2007 21:13

Very strange post?

chacha3 · 06/11/2007 21:13

????????????????????

LadyOfWaffle · 06/11/2007 21:14

I was thinking the same but didn't say anything incase I wasn't "getting" something. See GP I agree.

PanicPants · 06/11/2007 21:14

Odd op.

Rhubarb · 06/11/2007 21:14

Not a nice thread title at all

tissy · 06/11/2007 21:15

It's perfectly possible to have 2 undescended, but presumably the surgeons who operated on the first one would have noticed .

Best place to check is in the bath, where it's nice and warm, and they are more likely to be down.

If not, go back to doctor.

Buda · 06/11/2007 21:15

OK Sorry - was trying to be funny. Obv not. It just seemed funny to me at the time. He is at the stage of being a typical 6 yr old about stuff like that - apparently even asked the school nurse what balls were for.

morningpaper · 06/11/2007 21:17

Buda there's nothing weird about checking out your child's bits

And he shouldn't be asking the nurse what they are for - time you explained things, I think!

DettaJnr · 06/11/2007 21:18

They do move up and down. Has he said anything to you about only one being down?

We are awaiting DS, aged 6 also,to have exploration for one that hasn't descended for about 6 months.

Go to GP and get referral to Urologist.

Buda · 06/11/2007 21:22

I will take him to doc. It was the paed here who spotted that the first one wasn't down. Just all a bit tricky as living in Budapest. Will try to get appointment to see urologist in Dublin again at Xmas.

I suppose am a bit sensitive as DH has problems in that area - DS an IVF babe due to impotence issues initially and low sperm count and I worry is DS has it all in store too. Although DH does have both descended.

Marina - he said in passing last night that the nurse was in and he asked and she said "so you don't fall over". I think she thought he said "bones"! I have explained a bit tonight.

morningpaper · 06/11/2007 21:27

lol @ "so you don't fall over"

hmm! that will confuse the boy!

Buda · 06/11/2007 21:29

I know! I must ask the nurse tomorrow if she realised what he said and was just VERY quick to move on or if she honestly thought he said bones!

Marina · 06/11/2007 21:30

Hope you get it sorted budababe
PMSL at "so you don't fall over"

PeachesMcLean · 06/11/2007 21:31

Do you call them balls? I guess I'd call DH's "balls" but seems an odd one for one so young. Am I odd?

Rhubarb · 06/11/2007 21:33

Perhaps this link can help?

I understand it must be a worry to you. There is nothing wrong with checking your kids, but the title inferred that the OP was feeling them for unspecified reasons. Now you've explained it it's all perfectly understandable and logical.

Buda · 06/11/2007 21:38

No - I don't call them balls. One of his friends at school does. That was how this all started tonight. He was lying in bed and I was reading beside him and he suddenly asked why it was rude to say "balls" so I explained that it wasn't very nice and they were called testicles and he should say that. Cue giggles as he tried to pronounce testicles. Cue me thinking - oh how many have you.

And you know the rest!

(I thought I was odd for not liking to call them balls. It IS odd at that age!)

DettaJnr · 06/11/2007 21:39

Hope you plan to go privately Buda, otherwise you'll have a LONG wait!!! We were given a date about 6 months away so obviously went privately and were seen within three weeks. We have been given a date for surgery which has been changed. Not a happy bunny.

Good luck.

Buda · 06/11/2007 21:41

Hi Detta - yes we can go privately. He had the other op at Temple Street so will go back there to private clinic.

Will take to Paed here first though as he can have an ultrasound here at least. Main problem here is that their preferred treatment is a course of hormone injections which we didn;t fancy for him.

DettaJnr · 06/11/2007 21:47

Know what you mean.

Funny, we had fertility treatment for DS as husband had mumps. But our two daughters were conceived naturally!

Off to bed now. DH wants to play some game on computer...
