Has anyone actually managed to stop menstrual migraines?

I get two menstrual migraines per month- like clockwork.. one on ovulation day and one on PMS day. I've gone through topiramate (DO NOT RECOMMEND), paramax, propanalol, aspirin, co-codamol, ibuprofen, magnesium supplements COQ-something and another supplement I can't recall. I don't drink alcohol any more and I try to sleep 8 hours. My diet isn't perfect but it's fine. My BMI is 20. Nothing shifts them. Has anyone had non-stop menstrual migraines and had a treatment plan which has actually stopped them? Please save me!!

@IWantMyHoney

I've only been suffering with them for 1 year but sumatriptan works wonders for me. I hope they continue to work as they're the difference between living or being incapacitated.
I've been reading up online and seen some people claiming that even if your body builds up tolerance to a triptan, you can switch to another triptan which will work. Then once you have come off the first triptan, if you build up tolerance to the new one, you can actually switch back and it'll work again because your body loses its tolerance over time. Fingers crossed this means you can hop from triptan to triptan when they start to lose their efficacy and always have a treatment. By the way, I have just got my period and successfully gotten rid of two migraines within an hour using Zolmitriptan :O

I have formed some beliefs about medical misogyny and lack of access to adequate care for hormonal migraines. They ruined my well-being for fifteen years and often left me depressed and despairing. Why have I ONLY JUST been prescribed a treatment which actually works? I'm so relieved to have found something that seems to be working, but I am spitting fire and mourning my adolescence and 20s knowing that in all likelihood it could have been prevented.

@AnnaMagnani

I'm on topiramate and it is fine for me - although I have been very disappointed not to have the weight loss side effect.

I do have the aphasia side effect but only to the extent of occasionally not being able to remember a word - no-one would know I have it and I haven't felt slowed down.

Also if you aren't TTC being on Cezarette eliminated my hormonal migraines. No cycles, no cyclical migraines Smile

Still had all the other migraines so worked my way through preventers to topiramate which I am VERY happy with. It's not perfect but it is right for me. I tried 2 other meds which didn't suit which I know work brilliantly for other people - we are all different.

I had the weight loss side effect too, it seems like it would be good but I felt quite sick with food just from a few bites. It looks like my body just didn't get on well with it. I'm glad yours did! I didn't get migraines when I was on it but the side effects were too harmful to my daily activities to be able to carry on.

I gave up caffeine, gave up added sugar and went on Yasmin and that sorted it out

I had to go to the migraine trust for help as the GP never believed me and said they were only headaches caused by me taking too much nurofen fgs (I barely even bothered with nurofen as they were so bad the migraines, they used to make me vomit!)

@GADDay

Maxalt (Rizatriptan). It has literally saved me from hormonal migraines.

It is a strong drug but wards off my pre-menstrual migraines before they set in (sometimes for 5 days).

Maxalt really works for me too. I was sceptical as half the time medication doesn’t seem to work well for me (for everything, not just migraines) but Maxalt has been a game changer for me.
