Those of you who have been plagued with this stomach bug - how long did it take before your children were properly over it?

DS was violently sick Friday night, but only the once, then floppy & weak all Saturday before throwing up again Saturday evening, floppy & weak all yesterday, and today he seemed better, but has now taken to his bed again because he feels unwell.

Thought these bugs were normally 24 hour things, but it seems to be taking him a long time to get over this.

I dread catching it as I have no-one here to help me out if I get ill!
Did you come down with it quickly?

I really hope it doesn't wipe out our whole family. I am keeping my fingers crossed that DS2 doesn't come down with it, but I expect he probably will, as they share a bedroom.

Dinosaur · 05/11/2007 11:08

My DS2 managed to avoid catching it, although DS1 and DS3 both had it (and DH was pretty poorly with it too).

So you might be lucky...

NaeDanger · 05/11/2007 11:08

I'm wondering if it starts quick as well. I've been feeling achy and tired today and wonder if its the beginning.

mintydixcharrington · 05/11/2007 11:10

oh dear yours sounds worse than ours

ds2 (aged 4) had it first - was sick twice in the morning, in bed all day feeling sad, fine the next day

dd1 (9) had it a week later - threw up 4 times between 4.30 am and 2pm, in bed all day, and spent the next day in her pjs watching tv and dozing, then fine on day 3

ds2 (7) had it yesterday - threw up twice in 2 hours in the am, was very perky and couldn't keep him in bed in the afternoon, had a big bowl of pasta for supper, two bowls of cereal for breakfast, offered to keep him off school today but he said he'd rather go in!

just waiting for dd2 to get it now. Actually I've been feeling a little churny this morning, I'm trying to ignore it

Pinkchampagne · 05/11/2007 11:10

Lucky that your DS2 escaped it, dinosaur. It is the pits isn't it?
Did you manage to escape it too?

OP posts:
Dinosaur · 05/11/2007 11:12

I think I had it first, but mistook it for a hangover .

But I did succumb to some sort of throat thing at half-term which then turned into laryngitis so I lost my voice. It was great, I got loads of sympathy at work last week even though I didn't actually feel too bad.

Pinkchampagne · 05/11/2007 11:14

How awful, MDC. Strange that it was a whole week before being passed from one child to the other. I bet you were hopeful the others had escaped it by that stage.

OP posts:
Pinkchampagne · 05/11/2007 11:16

Lol at mistaking it for a hangover, dino! I try to convince others that my bad hangovers are actually a bug!

OP posts:
mintydixcharrington · 05/11/2007 11:18

actually looking at my diary it was almost two weeks between ds2 and dd1 so I think she picked it up at a soft play during half term rather tahn from him.
3 days between dd1 and ds1 so I guess she gave it to him..

laura032004 · 05/11/2007 11:19

We've all had some type of tummy bug, in fact the whole street has! Doesn't help that 3 kids on our street go to the same pre-school, so we pass everything round!

DS1 had one dodgy night - tummy ache, and loose poo, DS2 has had diahorrea for getting on a week now, and didn't eat for about 4 or 5 days (just started again yesterday), he was sick 3 times over 3 days. I've had a churny tummy for days, but it doesn't seem to be getting any worse or better.

One day we'll be well again... maybe even at the same time!

forevermore · 05/11/2007 11:23

I keep getting blood blisters and bite marks in my cheeks; I am also a smoker. do you think its related.

forevermore · 05/11/2007 11:24

sorry i should have started a new thread

Pinkchampagne · 05/11/2007 11:27

I had my new (childless) man round when DS1 woke up & vomited over the side of his top bunk!
It was a real "welcome to my world" moment!

OP posts:
mintydixcharrington · 05/11/2007 11:30

ha ha pinkchampagne
if he can cope with that, he's a keeper!

DS1 decided to vom yesterday while we were at a friend's new house admiring everything.
she'd just given him some ribena and he didn't QUITE get to the loo. Purple splodged half digested porridge all over the carpet. . She claims she was going to change the flooring anyway, what a nice person

magnolia74 · 05/11/2007 11:30

My lot had it last weekend, dd4 started it and threw up a few times over 2 days, dt1 had it for about 24 hrs, her twin never got it! Dh had an awful tummy and was really fluey for 2 days, ds1 was sick once and dd1 was a bit achey but not sick. I avoided it too thank god

Pinkchampagne · 05/11/2007 11:43

Oh no, MDC, what a nightmare! Purple vomit too!!

My new man was pretty good & offered to help me, but I didn't put him through that!
He came back round last night too, surprisingly!

Three days for dd aged 1

My friends dd of same age had it for an entire week. She went to the dr who was very unbothered and she is totally over it now.

hennipenni · 05/11/2007 12:07

8 days of vomiting for DD3 followe by about 4 days to recover properly and get her appetite back.

Tutter · 05/11/2007 12:11

ds1 had it last firday

but it comprised one mahoosive up-chuck and one bout of diarrhoea then he was ok

a bit pale and tired for the rest of the day, but yes, a 24 hr thing max

mintydixcharrington · 05/11/2007 12:40

well I've now got a dodgy tummy, lets hope the vomming doesn't follow

Pinkchampagne · 05/11/2007 13:18

Oh my goodness, 8 days of vomiting sounds horrendous!

Hope you are not coming down with it, MDC.

Sickness bugs hit my kids differently.
Eldest Manky is very rarely sick with them. Usually just once, then a bit loose but fine next day. Bit like his dad, cast iron tummy.
Middle Manky is usually truly awful. Sick every couple of hours for 3 days, then sporadically for 10 days, as well as the back door trots. Weak and weepy for up to 3 weeks after.
Littlest Manky so far seems to just get the runs, but he was still breast fed last year and perked up fine. This is the first autumn/winter not breastfed, so I don't know what to expect.
I tend to get very nast runs, and violently sock for a full 24/36 hours. DH had to take emergency carers leave last time, I couldnt move from the loo.
