Those of you who have been plagued with this stomach bug - how long did it take before your children were properly over it?

DS was violently sick Friday night, but only the once, then floppy & weak all Saturday before throwing up again Saturday evening, floppy & weak all yesterday, and today he seemed better, but has now taken to his bed again because he feels unwell.

Thought these bugs were normally 24 hour things, but it seems to be taking him a long time to get over this.

It was horrible, the only problem being that no-body else has come down with it in the family yet, I'm going to London with DH at the W/E, whats the betting one of us gets it? or it waits like it usually does and strikes me down on christmas eve, without fail!

Pinkchampagne · 05/11/2007 13:26

Lets hope you escape it, hennipenni. I would have thought it would be more likely that it hits you sooner than Friday if you're going to get it, but fingers crossed you stay bug free!

The bugs normally strike over Christmas in our family too. The last two years this has happened, so I'm praying we all stay healthy over Christmas this year.

very variable.

one ds had it last week - threw up twice overnight and then was ok after that (one day off school full of energy !).

DH had it on Friday - one day of quick trips to the loo and sleeping all afternoon - has been fine since.

I got it on Saturday - felt rotten for 2 days, feverish, threw up once, still feel weak today.

the other 2 ds's suddenly had achy tummies just before tea yesterday and threw up within 10 minutes of each other - slept all night - both off school today and absolutely fine.

So I have had it much worse than the rest of them.

Pinkchampagne · 05/11/2007 15:10

It well & truly swept through your family then, throckenholt! Poor you!

My DS seems a lot brighter now, and is playing with his Transformers, so I'm hoping he is well on the road to recovery.

yep - has been a grim few days. But they all seem happy now - so hopefully it is all over.

Hope your ds stays well now.

Not sure its the same one - sounds as though there are plenty of varieties to go around - but dh and I both had achey, fluey virus with upset tummy and totally off food, feeling nauseous: 5 days each.

dd1 off food and grumpy: 3 days (she's a toughy)

dd2 (11 months) dreadful, watery diarrhoea and several bouts of vomiting: 1 week. You can see by my other posts that I was panicking after 5 days, and even the GP was surprised, but apparently they can last longer in young kids/babies

Hope all the LOs get well soon, and their parents too xx

Pinkchampagne · 05/11/2007 17:23

I remember my DS having a tummy upset when he was 7 months old, and the diarrhoea lasting an entire week - it was awful! You have my sympathy, Elibean.

just need to get the kids to bed then I can park myself in my own with my trusty ikea bin by my side
one down, three to go. ooh, is that the time? can dispose of another one!

Pinkchampagne · 05/11/2007 19:09

Oh no, MDC, poor you. Hope you don't get it too bad & are feeling better soon.

Hope you're feeling better today, MDC.

My DS seems a lot better this morning, and DS2 still seems quite healthy atm, so it is back to school today!
Just hope DS2 & myself don't get it now!

Me: dodgy tum so no food
DH :dodgy tum so has a recuperative bacon and egg sandwich (thrown up and now asleep )

8 days

francagoestohollywood · 06/11/2007 09:43

1 week for dd (she's now developed a cough though)
I'm still not feeling a 100%, after having been extremely sick on the night between wednesday and thursday

Elibean · 06/11/2007 10:05

Thanks, Pinkchampagne, suspect its one of those mothering memories that never quite goes away

Glad your Los are better/ok today, long may it last!

Pinkchampagne · 06/11/2007 16:53

Well all seems much better thankfully, but if DS2 escapes it, it will be a miracle as not only has he been around DS1 all weekend, but the girl sat directly opposite him at lunch, threw up in her lunchbox today!

Oh pinkchampagne poor you

Turquoise · 06/11/2007 18:08

My ds had it for a week, thought he was on the mend for about 12 hours by the 4th day and then mahoosive vom, and back to square one. He is terrible with tummy bugs though - but was weak and feeble (and horrendously skinny) for days even after the d&v stopped.

DD has an iron tummy, wasn't sick but felt lousy with mild diarrhoea, all over in less than 24 hours.

I had it for about 4 days but felt deathly for a couple of days before it began, really achey and fluey.
